People have got to get over themselves. There is nothing wrong with the French accent. Trust me, there are worse accents out there. Examples? Nasaly Australian, Canadian and American accents, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, English (to a degree) and Kiwi accents. But the French accent isn't annoying.
The French have a more refined accent (as per their general attitude) than most. I'm looking at Americans, specifically those that haven't been trained vocally (i.e. actors and singers).
My guess is it's more of a prejudice against the French, rather than an actual distaste for the accent.
I'm sorry, but your post sounded alot like: "You are all prejudice for disliking the Orlesian/French accents! Now I will turn around and voice the exact same opinion as you guys on other accents, because..... just because that some how makes sense and adds to my point!"
In all seriousness, I think it's JUST about the accent and personal taste, just as you rattled off accents you don't like, this is about an accent the OP doesn't like. It has little to do with the country of origin or how the French have their own language, as you seem to want to make it about by... voicing your distaste for every accent that comes out of the countries with English as a first language?

I've never understood why the makers of movies, and presumably games, don't just hire actors who already have the accents they're supposed to portray. With the thousands of Australian actors who've tried their luck in California we're still far more likely to see an American in those roles making us wince while they try to mimic our accent.
Presumably it'd be easier in games where the acting is done in a sound booth or whatever, rather than running around some identifiable locale.
My hope is for proper french actors with genuine french accents playing Orlesian characters who aren't stereotypically cheesy cyphers. Would also not object to a well acted Orlesian PC.
You're aware that Bioware's been using native speakers throughout the DA series yes? Given that they're located in the land of snow and maple syrup (a.k.a. Canada) I'd be rather surprised if there was a departure from this practice. But then, how many native French speakers could they possibly find? I mean, it's not like they can just pop over to Quebec and grab a random person off the streets....
Oh wait...
Seriously though, there are surely enough French voice actors (from France) to fill the necessary roles, and enough local talent to voice any "extras".
Also, elven servant with the cheese tray in mark of the assassin? Loved her voice.

And not every Orlesian character needs to have a theatrical, over-the-top sounding accent. Two good examples of French accents that weren't over the top were Leliana and Riordan.
Would anyone be disappointed if the actor who voiced Riordan also voiced the protagonist, or one of your companions?
I know I wouldn't. Riordan sounded like a bad@ss.

Not to mention how some voice actors voice multiple characters! Steve Blum voiced Irving, Gorim, and a couple of other dwarves other than Oghren, for example.

I really, really, really hope for this, actually. I freakin' loved Riordan's voice, and I would love to hear it more than just the few lines we got out of Riordan.

I guess I'm in the minority that doesn't mind french accents.
Double post, but I'm in that minority too. I can't even say I found Isolde annoying, despite how she seems to be the one people have the most problem with.

Personally, I'm hoping there are pleanty of French accents in DA3, including the PC. I don't mind the French accent, and it'll be a nice change of pace from all the American and English accents every other game has.

Regardless even if we go to Orlais I imagine we'll have a mixture of accents more Ferelden in the south and parts of Val Royeaux. Some Nevarran accents to the west and some Tevinters/Anderfels people to the North. Beyond that there is always the Dalish and City Elves/Dwarves.

I admit, now that the topic has been broached, I'm curious if the VAs for the protagonist will have an Orleisian accent. Do we even know for a fact that they will or won't be from Orlais?

Isolde was a bit weird but the actress isn't really French. Apparently she's half Greek and lived in France for a while, but now resides in London. A mish-mash of accents sounds unnatural.
I'd rather not have the protagonist speaking with a French - err, I mean Orlesian accent.

This is pretty much what I was thinking. I always play a human female mage first, but if the PC was voiced by Riordan's voice actor, I would seriously consider rolling a dude first.
Though if we're going with English accents again (which is nice, too), how about the actress that did the female Sith Warrior in SWTOR? I thought she was spectacular.

I can live with the accents if they're done well.
I won't like it, but I'm not going to storm Bioware headquarters.
French accents (and French in general) just sounds awful to my ears. I don't know why. But that's a personal problem, so who am I to tell Bioware what to do?
Je suis désolé

"Everyone should be American" is the feeling I always get from posters when these threads come up.

Yeah... except the only characters that had American accents were the Dwarves, so... not sure where you are getting this from. "Everyone should be British" I could get behind, I suppose.
The problem I see with being Orlesian is that it would be a given that our character would speak Orlesian. So if someone in the game speaks Orlesian, will we understand it, but no one else does, like when Harry speaks to snakes and to everyone else it sounds like hissing and chanting? Will we get subtitles? Or will it just be in French, like in previous games, with some type of companion who only speaks Common chiming in with "What did they say, exactly?"
And before anyone chimes in with "Is Orlesian its own language, or is just an accent?" I'll supply this.
People in Orlais have their own language. To be walking around the city streets of a nation's capital and hear NO ONE speaking its native tongue would be silly. I'm fine if they hand wave it, but if they make it so that everyone speaks Common for no reason at all, then that will be extremely silly.

I don't mind the french accent as long as it sounds realistic and not overly extreme like in DAII. And this comes from a french citizen.
