No reason to not invite them! The reason I didn't connect enough with Jacob for example is that there was to little compelling or interesting dialog with him. The Citadel party is a great way to connect with crew members no matter how much or little you liked them!

 let me guess, your on a terminal and its telling you to use the embasy level one, kk the order is embasy level, docks holding entrance, docks holding end, back to bau. It simply keeps showing you embasy one for some reason.

 Edit just realised i replied to a 5 month old post, someone necro'ing are they ^^

Ditto. I wish we had even more, including a few romance or character conflicts (like if you romance Ashley in ME1 and Miranda in ME2-3 and have a conflict there. The same conflict can exist with Ashley being pro-alliance and Miranda being pro-Cerberus).

I don't think Miranda would be drunk, but definitely Ashley. I guess I just want to see Ashley get ripped apart in an argument by Miranda on all fronts.

Different combination of survivors in each playthrough, but there wasn't a playthrough in which I didn't invite everyone on the list... okay, so there was one.

Nolan: Romanced Tali. Kaidan and Jack were dead, Miranda wasn't present on account of not having gotten to Horizon yet. Invited everyone else.

Laura: Romanced Kaidan. Ashley, Wrex, and Zaeed were dead. Samara was never recruited. Invited everyone else.

Jane: Romanced Garrus. Kaidan, Wrex, Miranda, and Jacob were dead. Invited everyone else.

Jayne: No active romance. Kaidan, Ashley, Jack, Wrex, Miranda, Jacob, Kasumi, and Samara were dead. Invited everyone else.

You DO miss out on some fun conversations by inviting everyone though. Like Zaeed admitting he finds femshep beautiful LOL "Don't tell anyone"
