I used to feel this way, Crimson. Now, platinum isn't so tough. Granted I have to limit my builds and in some cases require a competent team, however I find it to be the new gold.

Platinum = Geth = :sick:

I HATE Geth platinum.  Sometimes after we've failed we purposely set G/W/P and take along a Paladin/QME/two other tech characters to extract bloody, bloody revenge.  Do electrons stored in a central server feel pain?  I hope so,  Stagger this you jerkwads.  PS. your mom is a toaster.

As for Melee characters, well ... OP has a point.  They are certainly challenging to play.  But impossible?  My Kroguard, Smashguard, Kretinel and Warlord disagree.  And oh, that feeling when you flatten a Phantom with your biotic hammer.  Challenging but rewarding.

So which kits are trivialized for platinum? Just curious which ones are considered gimp.

All melee kits and off-host vanguards except kroguard and batguard.

OT I find gold boring unless i'm playing full melee classes. I enjoy platinum unless its geth. Collectors too, but i can play them if i am prepared specifically(warp rounds and such). I mostly play reapers and cerberus and the matches go much smoother(usually 18-25 minutes, depending on map/friends). They key is to nuke the spawns on waves 7,8,9(this is when the primes spawn as well). You get a much more exciting match where camping is not an option and a whole lot of credits to enjoy.

Asari vanguard and drell vanguard are both devastating on platinum. As for melee builds, I never have any issues running a krogan sentinel (not warlord) or soldier in a melee setup.  I've still been guilty of human vanilla inf melee from time to time as well.  I've also had success running the nova guard, sometimes with nova, sometimes without.   Just comes down to what you're comfortable with I suppose.

I said off-host vanguards. That slight delay in being able to charge can get you killed on these characters(not to mention the blank grenades sometimes). Also i forgot to mention that some characters that need to spam a power fast(phase disruptor/siege pulse/biotic orbs) have a much lower ROF off-host. If you used the vanilla krogans in melee on plat, more power to you. Novaguard is ths same problem, lag can and will get you killed.

I tried platinum once.

I can understand the appeal of the credits, but no way in hell would I consider them worth the frustration. I didn't enjoy it at all, I couldn't imagine "enjoying" it... frankly I think anyone who does say they enjoy it is effing deranged. For me, fun requires a certain equitable challenge-to-reward ratio, and the challenge on platinum is-- to me-- grossly disproportionate to the reward.

Platinum means for me :
a) Farming Rippaz for creditz.
B) Challenging/frustrating boss spam (pug wise) aka probably, "we're all gonna die".

But if U have right teammates (spawnnukers with monstrous dps like a Fury + Turian Soldier with Hurricane X;)) it can be funny as hell, and even easier than an average gold pug.

This is true of gold, and is just an outcome of the netcode.

On a decent host, I'll vanguard on Plat all day erryday even off host. On a laggy host, I'll die all the time even on gold.

I dislike the implementation of platinum in the way it skews balance between classes. And while I agree that the game works better on gold I still play a lot of platinum, including pugs. I just select classes that works reasonably well against bosses.

I hate Geth period.  They pretty much slaughter my Justicar.  I cannot play versus them unless I put on equipment thanks to pesky Primes and those d@mn Geth Bombers.  My 6/6/6/5/3 Justicar gets destroyed versus Geth.

People should understand that: Platinum is not hard, You feel its hard not because you are bad, it's because you lack firepower. Mooks Killing character, like most melee kits are totally UP and outclassed by others and the only effective Kroguard is the one with Reetard Carbine.

fun is subjective

i dont find grenade spam fun.

which is what every gold game is.

I can wipe out a gold cerberus spawn with one arc grenade and a few harrier shots.(qmi)

too easy.-_-

I don;t find the boss-spam to be that bad. They consistently only spawn a maximum of two of the 100-point boss up until wave 9 and beyond (with a few exceptions like the wave 2 Geth with 3 primes for example), where they spawn a couple of more bosses from another faction. So there's still plenty of opportunities to hunt down the lieutenants and the mooks.

Granted the more experimental classes fail and it becomes favored towards DPS characters, but at least I don't feel blue-balled like I would on Gold with a good team.

Gold with a good team of friends is to easy, Platinum with a good team of friends is much more enjoyable as it is more than just racing from spawn to spawn.

This game loses its meaning on gold.
Covers are useless and few kits can stand an attack from a single enemy...or 2 warps hitting you without reasons.
But...we need the money for those ultrarares :(

Agreed. I've met like 3 people who play it for fun.

i use lvl 1 equipment on gold to give myself a challenge. Image IPB

at least on platinum i can use whatever i want like lvl 4 equipment because what else would i use it for?

on ps3 i have enough challenge on silver with my restrictions. Image IPB

I use level 1 stuff as well but there are some classes that need some level 3 stuff.

I never use equipment on gold, only when soloing :P

Played a few platinums last night...

Atlas? Dead in 4-6 seconds.
Praetorian? Dead in 5-8 seconds.
Banshee? "Holy crap she died fast."
Prime? Trolol...scrap metal anyone?

It's amazing what a little focus fire can do. If you're playing platinum complaining about boss spam I get the impression you're getting overrun. If you're getting overrun your focus fire is terrible, or nobody bothered checking the flanks.

As for vanguards not working on platinum. The problems you mentioned, Crimson, have nothing to do with the class but everything to due with lag mechanics of the game. I still make them work. Just have to change up the play style some.

As for melee builds being underpowered I have to still disagree. Played 3 platinums last night as melee builds. 2 as vanilla human infiltrator and 1 as FQI. First match was rough - geth. Second and third match was nipping at 2nd place on score vs Cerberus. More than competent for "underpowered" melee performance. I'm rusty with using these guys so I intend to give em another few runs.

Each and every build is platinum viable. If you think it's not, you just need a little more practice with it or need to change up tactics while using it. A melee build that shines on gold will require more finesse and attention to your surroundings on platinum. Since platinum was released, my friends and I have yet encounter any class that simply can't perform on platinum. It just takes a little practice and patience. It's incredibly fun, entertaining, and challenging for ME to come up with screwy builds and make them work on platinum.

That is the problem with Platinum. Moving, big, fat and stupid bullet sponges. They spawn->you kill them in a blink of eye->Repeat. Overrun? Don't make me laugh, how can they overrun me when I kill them in seconds?

Play PuGs, they never use their missiles.

All my plat runs are solo-queue PuGs and unless I end up as the token random in a premade of friends, they never use their missiles.

Some classes really shine for Plat PuGs if you want to play without missiles, Justicar for instance.

You can add me on Origin: GeistHeller if you want another player who only uses missiles for tight spots.

Glad to see someone else singing the praises of the Justicar on Platinum. So good!

Do no missile runs with friends. They're fun and should take less than 20 mins. Problem solved.

FUN? Are you telling me you can have fun with Geth ****ing Prime, Lolgoon, Phantom, Geth Rocket Glitcher and Marauder Shield in the same match?

Sounds like a good time to me Image IPB

Also, every class is platinum viable, you can always just use your missiles to make sure objectives get done instead of spawn nuking (which is boring) and  there isn't really more bosses than waves 7+ of gold.

Gold > Platinum completely. It's just more fun.
