Yes, he died within the first hour of Dragon Age: Origins and by DA's current timeline it's been over 10 years since Ostagar.

But it would be neat if either a relative, former pupil or an illegitimate child of Duncan's could be a party member.

Even though Duncan's time with the Warden and Alistair was short, Duncan's personality and teachings did impart a lot onto them.  How much of course varies from player to player as far as the Warden was concerned, but Duncan did serve as a catalyst for the Blight's end by finding the Warden and impressing on them the sacrifice and the actions that a warden would have to take to defeat the darkspawn.

This potential party member would have some of that mentality either as a warden, someone who wants to be a warden or someone who simply wants to emulate Duncan. Then it would be up to the player could either encourage the party member to stop emulating a dead man and move on with their life or help the party member to actually join the Grey Wardens.

Bioware aren't in the habit of revisiting short term plot devices which served its purpose already.

Duncan is in two books ( the stolen throne/the calling)+ DAO , so it's not like there's nothing about him.

Maybe if we meet Fiona , she will talk about him.But again from the POV of a new playable character, the story of Duncan has litlle to no interest.

I never fully understood the Duncan "obsession" he was a cool character but ...there's always a thread popping asking for zombie Duncan ...maybe it's the beard?

He served his purpose as mentor to the warden. Of course having the role of  mentor means he outranks The Warden so he has to die. So no, in the case of this character not interested in hearing anything more about him.

If you ask it a question and shake it vigorously it answers in riddle form.

Nah, Duncan's already got a book.

I'd rather meet Fiona.
Perhaps Polara's son, what ever he is.

Seconded.

Look, I love Duncan. Seriously, I do. An unjustifiable amount considering how little game-time the man actually got. But he's gone. He died heroically, on the field of battle, 10+ years ago. Let's let the poor guy rest.

No body. Though bioware insists that he's dead, he'll only remain dead until theyt need him to be dead. Does that make sense?

Zombie Duncan!

(I keep hoping for The Face--I suspect I'm the only person other than Gaiser who remembers him saying that)

The only thing I remember about Duncan is that when he showed up great stories, tied to interesting origins, came to a crashing halt and were replaced with a generic go save the world from 'insert dark army here' plot line.

Thirded. That woman is probably the character with the most plots tied to her there is in the entire setting. I mean, she has (spoilers for all Dragon Age media, select text to see it) slept with king Maric, given birth to Alistair who may or may not be king, been a slave in Orlais, become Grand Enchanter, stopped the Architect, given Riordan and Duncan their joinings, spearheaded the mage rebellion and stopped being a Grey Warden somehow,

That's a lot of stuff.

Fourth'd.  I've been quietly hoping for Fiona to be a DA3 companion.  :wizard:

Even if Duncan somehow managed to survive Ostagar, he would still be dead by the time Dragon Age III starts, considering that Alistair said to the Warden in Dragon Age: Origins that Duncan told him that he would soon go to his "calling", and that was about 10 years ago, so he is surely dead now.

Nihlus in ME1 was rementioned two years later in ME2, by Samara, for no reason other than to bring him up. Thus, I diagree with you.

Hm, I like Duncan just as much as the next guy/gal but hasn't he kinda played his role? Give me Fiona instead, she actually holds a position of importance (plus, is the only person in Thedas to use the F-word)

It'd be cool to have a mention of him, like a legend talking about him being the heroic mentor of the most famous Grey Warden in history, but he shouldn't be given any more importance than he has. I don't know him to be an Obi-Wan ghost who tells me to go to Orlais to stop the Mage-Templar War.

Leliana (who was resurrected by the Maker after you cut her down in Andraste's tomb) resurrects Duncan with a pinch of Andraste's ashes she manages to save from defilement.

Or better, the Maker gives her a "Wand of True Resurrection" with 10 charges on it. She's going to wreck some headcanons, that's for sure.
