Please don't criticize me for asking for help. I've written the whole rest of the story on my own and I have an idea for the rest of the story, but I just can't think of an enemy/group of enemies to have going after Liara.

I already thought of that and decided not to do that. Don't want Bioware to sue me for copyright infringment. lol.

Maybe a merc group headed by someone who wants to take over as Shadow Broker?
Maybe. But, how would they know Liara is the Shadow Broker?

That would depend on who the leader is, thus the story.

If the Council are unaware of the Shadow Broker's true identity, I don't see it as beyond belief that they would send out a task force to take him/her down.
Otherwise... how about the asari themselves? Aethyta says that when Liara was making waves on Illium, the matriarchs were willing to assassinate her. Now that she is in such a powerful position, not to mention knowing that she knows they hid the Prothean beacon for asari superiority, they might want to take her out for the safety of the asari people?
Both of those could lead to some interesting moral dilemmas in the plot development... but neither are particularly "bad guys" if that is what you are going for.

Fair enough. Any ideas?

You could mix things up and have the enemies be a Council sponsored group?

I actually haven't thought of that. It's a good idea, but I'd rather it be something entirely new. Maybe someone who has a past with Liara. Or, maybe, someone who has a past with my Shepard and uses Liara as a form of bait to lure him out. Your idea is good. Maybe I'll try to think of something along those lines (not necessarily Council sponsored though. Maybe a group that is sponsored by Aria or remnants of Cerberus).

If you want a group with a past with Liara, you are rather limited to things within the canon plotline because her life was rather inoffensive until that point... unless you have, say, a group who were following Benezia and were discredited with the Saren affair, and wanted to take revenge on the T'Soni family (would probably have to be asari for that kind of grudge to carry)
Unless you want a group of disgruntled archaeologists whose theories Liara discredited
How about a Shadow Broker wet work team who Liara decided were too brutal, and let go of when she took the reigns?

That seems interesting. I'll consider that along with the other ideas that have been mentioned.
P.S: Most of my response was just me speculating to myself. I wrote it down to see if anyone could think of something that could go along those lines.

The sneaky squad-member might pass the word around the ship until it eventually leaks out into the wrong ears...Like those of the mad power hungry Eclipse Mercenary asari gang leader, Jona Sederis!! Don't forget that she wants to kill Shepard because of the grudge she holds, this would make an excellent plot bump in your story because it would fit in well. Being the Shadow Broker is a dangerous responsibility, one that the Yagh Liara reaved the position from was aware of. So aware, that he'd kill anyone who saw his face, for good reason to. Liara should have been smart enough to take similar precautions.
I hope I helped Gamer072196! ^^

Nrobbiec has a good idea. I think somebody would discover the identity of the Shadow Broker (Liara) eventually because she does have her "mini-lair" set up in a public space in the Normandy. The story could sort of start out with a curious and nosy minor Normandy squad member who thinks it might be a good idea to snoop around, and then they come across info that reveals her identity! Not to mention that close squad members know who she is as well somehow, like Wrex and Garrus, and the talkative Tali'Zorah!!

Actually, the majority of my story is going to take place eight years after the Reaper war is over and everyone has settled down somewhere (Shepard went to Rannoch with Tali
I've been considering having the Yahg being involved, to some extent, in Liara's disappearance. In Part 6 I had Shepard doing a top secret mission on Parnack with Garrus for the Council (I had Shepard leave the Alliance, but stay as a Spectre) and having to fight Yahg soldiers despite trying to remain undetected (the specifics are in the story. I'll put a link at the bottom of this post). In Part 7 I'm having Shepard barely escaping Parnack and returning to the Citadel to talk to the Council. In Part 8 I'm planning to have Feron contact Shepard and tell him that Liara's in trouble, but he doesn't have specifics.
If this gives anyone ideas then don't be afraid to post them.
Here's the link to my story if it'll help anyone get any ideas:

This Yahg (don't want to say he/she in order to offer more leeway), infuriated at Liara for killing a fellow Yahg who had managed to attain such a powerful position in society, seeks out people that the new Shadow Broker, Liara, has crushed in some way or another. Anything from blackmail to fraud to pre-planned bankruptcy, anything that Liara has done as SB that has put these people in a poor position.
Unified by the common goal of wanting Liara's head on a pike for what she's done to all of them, they relentlessly seek for some way to bring her down. And the leader, being an exceptionally good strategist for a Yahg, seeks to utilize "pressure points" in Liara's very life, targeting friends or other valuable "connections" she might have to catch her emotionally distraught and stupid in an attempt to make for an easy kill.
If you're looking for a name how about The Hounds of Parnack, named for how they relentlessly pursue Liara like a pack of wolves hunting its prey, using an effective combination of aggression and intellect.

A group composed from multiple different species, Batarian, Human, Asari, Salarian, Turian, Krogan, MAYBE a Quarian or two, all unified under the leadership of a Yahg who, like the Shadow Broker Liara murdered to take the title, was very intelligent.

Thats a really good idea. Though because of the way the Yahg society is, that could be odd... Unless the said Yahg doesn't follow the same societal guidelines the rest of the Yahg follow. Could be another Yahg that was taken from Parnack (the Yahg haven't joined the galactic community yet in my fanfic) and subsequently killed it's captor. Maybe the people that make up the organization don't know all that much about their leader, but would willingly die for him/her (similar to the Shadow Broker forces) nonetheless. Thx for the help!
