I'm writing a Liara in jeopardy story as well as part of my larger series, and had the same objective of finding a threat that would follow on from the Reaper battle.
I thought the single event in ME3 that would have resonated most with Liara was the Athame betrayal. Not only was it a conspiracy that was kept from the Asari populace and the galactic community, it had real personal resonance for Liara, reference the comment about her Mother. If she survived, she would certainly want answers, and it ties in better with her pre-existing skillsets and personal experience as an archaeologist and an information broker.

With regards the Yahg, tying a Yahg so close to Liara is a rehash of LOTSB, and though personal revenge may be motivation, I don't think it would apply to a Yahg.

Yahg's have a pack structure, and an entity that leaves a pack for any length of time becomes essentially a "lone Wolf", and a pack is far more likely to kill a former member in that instance, than welcome an estranged member back into the pack. The pack hierarchy would have changed in the interim.

Aslo finding a reason for getting a yahg off world and having access to one of the closest guarded secrets in the gal;axy (the identity of the Shadow Broker) seems a lot more less likely a scenario.

Anyway that's just my personal opinion, good luck with the writing

I know that it would be very unlikely for that to happen, but look how many people know that Liara is the Shadow Broker: Hackett, Shepard, Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Legion, Samara, Jacob, Zaeed, Kasumi, Miranda, Grunt, Ash/Kaiden, Thane, Jack, Mordin, Feron, TIM, and who knows how many others.  I have been thinking of ways to fit the Yahg into the story but as of right now, I'm planning on having the identity of who is leading the organization that is going after Liara as a mystery.

Maybe a merc group headed by someone who wants to take over as Shadow Broker?

Maybe.  But, how would they know Liara is the Shadow Broker?

That would depend on who the leader is, thus the story.

Fair enough.  Any ideas?

How about Aria?, she could of lost alot of mercs during the Reaper war, and she could see Liara as a threat to her rule on omega with the information she has gatherd.
Aria could be slowly growing paranoid, and somthing finally snaps she goes after liara with the remaining mercs she has left, all because she wants to keep her throne

Most of those are former Allies, but that makes it more interesting. Would people remain loyal if the circumstances change? Without the Reapers.

Well, Aria was already paranoid to start with but she hides it very well.  She already sees the Shadow Broker as a threat to her rule over Omega, but she wouldn't go after the Shadow Broker unless he or she (in Liara's case) took direct action against her rule.  She worked with Cerberus even though she knew that they eventually might try to oust her because she wasn't paranoid, or stupid, enough to turn down a good deal.  She probably has the same attitude towards the Shadow Broker despite knowing almost nothing about the Broker.  Plus, most of my fanfic will take place eight years after the Reaper war which is more than enough time for her to rebuild her forces.

You know... now that you brought up Aria, I might have her appear in the story.  Possibly Shepard could recover a piece of armor from a merc that was going after Liara and go to Aria to see if she recognizes it.  Thanks!:)

Exactly. ;)  That could add to the mystery.

I'm writing a fanfiction that takes place after the Reaper war (Destroy) and I've hit somewhat of a snag in my story.  I want to have Liara being followed/chased by a enemy/group of enemies and Shepard has to help her out.  I want it to be something new.  Not Cerberus, Tenth Street Reds, Blue Suns, Eclipse, etc.  I have been trying to think of something but I can't.  Can anyone help me out?

Please don't criticize me for asking for help.  I've written the whole rest of the story on my own and I have an idea for the rest of the story, but I just can't think of an enemy/group of enemies to have going after Liara.

A simple street gang? Probably not very dramatic given Liara's biotic talent's but let's run with the idea of a group of
people who have no actual reason to go after her other than the cred's and clothes off her back. People who are forgotten by the system or who have a reason to not wanting to be in the system (Because sometimes it's good to remember the victim's in war can make victim's of others).

So Liara's a biotic and can call on her powers to pound her pursuer's into the dirt or tear them apart....... What would make her not do that?

-Keepinga low profile? Biotic's do tend to make a lot of mess and noise while drawing attention. Killing alot of pursuer's might raise someone's interest she doesn't want.
-Her power's are weakened? From something she did or consumed/was forced to consume? Or a blow to the head?
-Empathy? Knowing, as the SB, what these people were going through and not wanting to actively kill them if she can manage an escape instead?

Butat the same time these people chasing her, for whatever reason have to present a credible threat. They have to display predator trends since they are chasing with a promise of a predator resolution if they catch her. So what will they do to her if they catch her?

-Kill her?
-Mug her?
-Render her unconscious and sell her?

Which raises the question of how these people are equipped to do all that.

And at the end the chase has to end with some form of resolution.

-Liara makes a clean escape by the skin of her teeth and meet's a contact who poke's fun at street rat's giving her a hard time.
-Liara manages to escape but has to kill one of them who found her hiding spot/would have seen her and given her away. (Guilt Trip)!
-Liara is bailed out by by another group.
   - Gang war between gangs that erupt's due to her
   - Liara's on world assistant picking her up.

The other question. Is she completely alone at this point? She could be or she may have someone with her or she could be in radio contact with someone to talk to the whole time..... or not if the area's got bad signal strength.

Just a few idea's to help you mull thing's over.

I don't think BW would sue you for using Cat 6, as long as you don't try to sell it as your idea. ME is their property too, after all.

I think a good idea, if you are taking on the Shadow Broker, is to create a gathering of enemies. So, perhaps it's some Asari Matriarchs who don't trust Liara. They then hire various parties(Cat 6, Humanity First, Batarian Extremists, Biotic Cultists, disenfranchised Drell/Hanar assassins, etc).

These guys, in turn, could chafe under the Asari controlled op, setting up a massive series of attempted backstabs (which is appropriate, considering the spy nature of the information game).

Or it could also be a cadre of Info Brokers gunning for Liara, thinking it was the Broker who killed her (of course, that falls apart once they find out Liara is the Broker, but eh...).

First: I meant that as a joke.  I wasn't being serious.

Second: Both are good ideas.  Thanks for your input. ^_^

You mean Rana Thornuptis (not sure if I spelled her last name right)?  She turned out to be indoctrinated and blew up a facility which killed several Asari researchers.  If I remember right, she died in ME3.
