Was Bioshock ending that good as well?

I didn't think so. You either get a very happy ending or a very depressing ending, each were a cutscene less than 5 minutes long. I haven't read the spoilers, but Bioshock was known more for its themes. Most critics praised the game for its "feels" rather than its story. In a time where socialism is being hated in the U.S and austerity measures are being implemented all across Europe that combats welfare, Bioshock is a "zeitgeist", a game that reflects the time we live in, for its anti-objectivist themes.

I'm not going to get into politics, but from the previews I saw of Bioshock Infinite, it will probably address the religious fundamentalism, strict interpretation of the constitution, the hatred against unions, and something akin to the Occupy Wall Street movement, problems we have in the U.S in its own unique way. It's a mature game that makes you think. And if it makes you think, then it is a Bioshock game.

TL;DR, Bioshock was never known for its story, but for its themes that deals with important issues we have today.

It is plot holes ridden (one in particular is major one) and the feeling at the end is like the original ME ending leaving you with a zillion questions and no answers

oh crap .. it has begun .. other devs really thought that illogical plottwists and nonsense are liked by the community.

repent mortals ... the day of judgement is nigh.

do not forget about post credits tags that rise even MORE questions (yes this game has one)

The moment you start insinuating whinefests, you open the door to the moaning you are doing yourself about it.  Stick to the topic and you'll be safe.  That should be pretty evident to you, right?

@the topic:  That developer sounds like another self-impressed faux intellectual.  I'll reserve my comments of the game itself to if I ever play it.  But based on the impression I get of the developer in that interview, chances aren't looking good.

These developers should learn what most authors know, if they fancy themselves as linear plot tellers.  That they should keep their mouths shut and let their work speak for itself.  Not from the point of view that they don't have the right to speak.  From the point of view of in their field, it is smarter not to.

Yes, because it has heavy themes that most people don't want to think about. I guarantee that when the game comes out, a lot of religious people will mistake the game for being anti-religious.

Haven't looked at the video but there is one key difference between Shepard and Booker DeWitt. Booker DeWitt is Ken Levine and Irrational Games' creation while Shepard by BioWare's own marketing is your character. Granted, your character built within their world but regardless of what I may think of how BioShock: Infinite ends, I can't see myself identifying with DeWitt to the same level as I identify with Shepard.

Didn't read the spoilers, but very worried about some posts in that thread saying it ruins the previous BioShock stories, as well. I thought BioShock 1 was pretty good and loved BioShock 2's character-based story. By the end of BioShock 2 I was thoroughly invested in saving Eleanor and thought the ending was fantastic.

My friend's preordered it, so I'll probably let him finish and then ask my relevant questions to see if I want to play it.

tinkering with religious themes will go wrong. religious people are special when it comes to religion.

there is a difference between thematising something and thematising it clever and good. bioshock is not out yet - we have to see, if they are successfull ... or not.

It was a little too happy considering the rest of the game, but I can't really be that mad that the Little Sisters I worked to save went on to live good lives, can I?

I interpret that as: The game is not good enough to be sold on its own merit so we'll throw in a few free games to get people to pre order it. That way they won't see it sucks until it's too late and we already have their money.

I would disagree that it was bad, but I wouldn't call it not cheesy.  It'd be what I call good cheese.  Sort of like, let's say, Underworld (the movie).  In other words, if it is what you are looking for, it is perfect.  Note, I will not defend Underworld as a good movie.  I will only defend it as a movie I liked Image IPB

Well, another great game series ruined.  So long into craptasticville.  I'll say it again-we as consumers are being taken for granted.  Gamers (and this is sort of true for all software) really have it kind of more difficult as consumers because if they complain, other gamers will jump on them and claim they have no right to do so.  Returning games is sometimes impossible and at best only allowed for an exchange of the same title (not even possible on game downloads).

Devs are searching to find the worst that we will buy for the most amount of money.  It used to be games exceeded expectations.  Now, you're lucky if they in any way meet them.  I can't tell you how many horrible games (some in series) I've gotten or bought in the last year or more.  There's really only one bright spot and it too has its flaws (Skyrim)-first off, you have to like that kind of game, but you also have to know going into it that Bethesda games are really buggy, freeze up, and a lot more.  But they are never less than they claim to be.

I loved Bioshock 1 and 2 was not as good but still fun.  This one sounds horrid.

I wasn't.  Sure it was a bit cheesy but what's a Big Daddy for anyway.  It was kind of "camp" and cheesy all along in some ways so for me it fit.  Otherwise, it would have been all for nothing.

Pre-order on Amazon and get an ebook Mind in Revolt that explains events prior to Infinite. Ok, I'm getting a bit sick of needing external stuff to explain information pertinent to a game/story.

I know the feeling....at least some games try to give you that material in game as well
