I know I have to upgrade, but the passed two years have been rough and I have had to make due with my current machines for as long as possible to keep that mortgage paid, LOL! (also, COL, Cry Out Loud!).
Anyways, I just have to heap praise on Bioware for making their games, Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as playable as possible even on bare minimum requirement rigs. I'm on my second play through in Dragon Age, and third with Mass Effect and, even though I have to turn the graphics specs down fairly low, the games still look absolutely beautiful and are wildly fun to play!
I don't know how you can make the games look so good, even with bare minimum specs, but you did, and I thank you! Long hours of game play keep me from drinking myself to death, HAHA, so... you may be saving my life!
Thanks again to the best game makers out there... I'm gushing and embarrassing myself, now, so... carry on...

PS: Almost, what? seven years of NWN1? Still play with friends and solo very regularly. Best game dollar ever invested! Keep up the magnificent work, you gods of Canada, you!
Praise to Bioware for ME and DA:O, specifically for compatibility...

Mass Effect uses Unreal 3, which works very well on quite weak systems, while scaling up to looking amazing on high end systems. Dragon age looks reasonable in my opinion, but for a game releases around the same time as COD6 the graphics seem a little worse than they could be. That said, I love the game.

I'm another player with a bare minimum computer (Pentium D processor), and the game plays very well except for slow-downs during large battles. Even there, it's still possible to play and enjoy the game.

But there is still a gap between COD6 and Crysis while Crysis was released in 2007.
I would say that DAO looks decent enough. I think for RPGs, graphics are not as important as in Shooters.

In my experience Dragon Age played a lot better then Mass Effect on my computer ( but it could be related to poor soundcard hardware).

Oh yes, Crysis is still amazing to look at, but I was using an example for something released around the same time. And we have to bear in mind that Crysis 2 will be coming out this year, looking better than the first, on consoles.

I wasn't impressed with Crysis. Didn't look very "real" to me.
Dragon Age, however, has amazing scenery and, on high graphic settings, amazing character detail.
Ultimately, Bioware certainly knows what they're doing with their RPG's. Gotta love 'em.
