Hey guys - so yes the servers and challenge systems will keep running as long as we can keep them up but there will no longer be any organized weekend events.

I've had break ups that were handled with more integrity than a statement buried in page two of a thread started by a BSN member.

I would have thought this blog entry would have covered it.

How charming in a smarmly and smug fashion.   Given most of the weekend challenges were announced in the forums, one would think that this would have been announced by Bioware itself in a thread started by a Bioware employee.   Perhaps not everyone is pouring through the retrospective blogs are you are.   Personally I've had my fill of self congratulations under problematic circumstances and am not paying the blogs much attention....

So if you didn't get the Weekend Ops challenge completed you are out of luck? Well, OK then. I guess.

I enjoy the heck out of ME3MP and appreciate all the hard work that has been put into it, but this seems like the setting up of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Shutting down support and giving an uncertain future about the servers pretty much guarantees that even inveterate cash for pack buyers like myself are going to be wary of dumping funds into something that could disappear at any time. Of course, the drying up of incoming funds then gives a perfect reason to pull the plug once and for all.

This one right c'here.:crying:

I'm even seeing lots of new players on the 360, surely they would be interested in enjoying what we all have for a year

Then they should have paid the full price for this game when it came out, not buy it after an year since its release and even attempt to complain.

I doubt they do complain. They have nothing to complain about. Not sure why you're so hostile to newcomers, I appreciate the fresh blood.

Because anybody who pays less than me should get less. Otherwise I'm starting to feel bad.

Wow.  That's quite...juvenile of you.  Good luck with that attitude!:wizard:

Call me crazy, but one might be inclined to think that a BSN member who takes the time to compare BW to an ex-lover in the forums could be resonably expected to read the blog before bemoaning a lack of information.

On a separate note, during one of my "pouring" [sic] sessions I came across a press release for Reckoning stating that those who downloaded it would be entitled to a free new character that could be redeemed at any point up to one year after the DLC's release date. It doesn't seem likely they would have included this language if they intended on shutting the servers down before that.

"takes the time to compare BW to an ex-lover"    "Takes the time", what an inane comment.   My point remains that if  announcements about Weekend Challenges and multiplayer occur in the forum, with a sticky by an Bioware employee; then a mark of consistency and integrity would suggest that the ending of the weekend challenges be done in the same fashion.

Oh, and speaking of smug. I would suggest that if you are going to correct me on "pouring", that you might as well be helpful for those that may not care as much as I do and lay out what the issue is.

jm2207 is in fact correct, "pouring through" is incorrect. The typical usage is "poring over", that is to review information. It does seem that the usage of through is becoming more common, but "pouring " is incorrect.  I stand corrected.

The rest of my argument stands, as the argument is based upon integrity, not petty assumptions about "time."

Hmm.

On one hand I tend to not get down on BW for the ME franchise, since it is one of the best ever in gaming. However, I have been part of MP games for over 30 years now, and ME3 had a pretty decent concept. It was very shallow from a overall gaming concept, but the implementation of the tactical combat and balance was some of the best I have seen in any MP game.

That said, it really isn't a good idea to go into an MP endeavor without a plan to continue the service indefinitely. A one year support concept is not good business practice, since the next time you do this everyone will say "and what happens after a year?"

I mean even UO is still going, they found a way to let the community maintain it. Asheron's Call is still operating too, I believe.

The community is going to treat any MP element of future SP games by Bioware with a great deal of skepticism.

No new content doesn't mean the game has stopped working. Everyone can keep playing just as well as they did on day one and if the dev statements are to be believed, they will keep the servers running for a long while, so I fail to see why anyone should be concerned for future MP modes.

If they were shutting down the servers only a year after release, ok, that'd be a different story.

Juvenile to think that someone who pays less should get less?  Interesting.  I'd like you to test that in a car dealership, tell the manager that you should get a Porsche when you're only paying for a Volkswagon.  Or take it to your boss (assuming you work for a living) and tell him that you should make as much money as the guy who produces twice what you do.
