That's a bit earlier than I expected. Which doesn't really bother me as far as ops are concerned really, but I hope they won't shut the servers down next week

How long did the original or ME2 multiplayer servers stay online?

Fact: no changes to the servers etc
Fact: the recent dlc was widely known as the last

The loss of weekend ops is a small thing. The next iteration of the ME franchise should be awesome

I'm planning on playing at least until I get the Botb banner. Then, whenever I feel like it.

You knew that it was coming to the end when some of the devs started posting their good byes, and when they placed the promos in the packs...

without the usual carrot to do the challenges, there would've been no reason to complete them. The game will be more interesting and equally frustrating to the player which bought it now, because since they have a ton of items to gain, those with maxed manifests will be playing for pride and the occasional jumbo equipment pack.

After all of the time and resources that were invested into the ME3 MP, I think that there is good reason to believe that there will be a multiplayer portion in the next installment. Though this does signal that the end is approaching, with the challenges ending and whatnot, I would say that there is much to look forwards to.

Xbox live and the PS3 network require some sort of cooperation/license from Microsoft and Sony right? Maybe even fees?

I remember someone at Bioware saying that they controlled everything on the PC platform though - how about keeping the PC weekend challenges alive?

My guess is they were trying to convince their superiors to let them continue giving us Weekend Challenges, thus the delay in announcing officially that they were done. (or they were given a vague answer) But it sounds like the boys made their choice.
I was really hoping they could have had some intern pump out like 50 of them in one day then just randomly pick one out until the servers got knocked out.

Speak for yourself.  I really enjoyed the weekend ops and considering how sad most are on these forums at the subtle announcment I don't think they were "mostly a subject of complaining".

So your post last weekend wasn't misleading at all. That's pretty cool. I guess the only satisfaction one might gain from that particular thread is the fact you wasted almost as much time writing it as we did reading it.

Two weeks, probably a hundred or more threads on the status of updates, one misleading thread authored by a BioWare staffer, and hopeful anticipation by countless members of the community, and now we finally have a straight answer.

Thank you for setting the record straight. BioWare's intentions with weekend events after Lodestar haven't been very apparent until now.
