Game delays are nothing new. Get used to it.

BioWare and EA owe us nothing.

It was a proposal, not a statement of entitlement.

And why should consumers "get used to" delayed, buggy DLC?  If we don't expect better products and act on those expectations, we'll never get better products. . .

Okay..bugs come with the territory...been playing online games since 1995 and offline games a bit longer than that.

I have to honestly say I have never yet seen a game that was "perfect".    I have never yet seen a bugless and glitch free expansion.    I have close beta tested "a few" games thus far...

Software is only as good as the human programming that goes into it...humans are fallible...thus you won't get perfect...

Bugs are expected, delays happen..unexpectedly.     To state anything else is not reasonable.

Expectations are one thing..reasonable expectations are another.   Unreasonable expectations are again another.

Even the Space Program has problems with glitches in its systems...hence why sometimes we see Space Shuttles that fail.......

I think we need to keep things in perspective, don't expect the impossible.

In the terms I set out in my OP, it was buy RtO and receive a discount on the next DLC.

That's hardly asking for something for free.  Bioware/EA is receiving business intel, shaping consumer approval, and raising the odds of more money coming their way. NCIX sent me a  bunch of points that I can redeem for real products because they kept me waiting for more than 1 hour for a return call.  I didn't ask for it but I was very surprised and happy to receive them and it definitely gives me an incentive to continue shopping with them.  Dell gave us a 25% corporate discount because our CSR was unprofessional and screwed up and delayed an order.  It's very common CS practice to try and make your customer (you know, those silly people that keep you in business) happy with their service quality.

All I'm asking for is simple customer service.  If you think that's the pinnacle of self-entitlement you've apparently never eaten out at restaurant. Image IPB

I don't agree with what bussinesses do. You mention restaurants...it's appauling how many people take advantage of these kinds of situations. I see it every time I go out, and it just disgust me how greedy people are. For example, when I have gone to Chipotle, I ask for my burrito, and I take it as is. That is what I am paying for...that is the product they are offering me, if I don't want it or don't like it, I will take my bussiness elsewhere. Yet every time I go in...people are like, "no more rice...more meat....put more more more" why? Why do they owe them more? They walked in, saw the menu with the listed price, that's what they get.

Just last week I was out to eat, and I guess the guy across from me asked for no pickles on his burger. It came out with pickles on it, and instead of just taking them off...he threw a fit, and ended up getting his meal taken care of. Yet I didn't ask for any discounts, even though he ruined my lunch experience. When companies "give in", guess what happens...people want more. People know if they complain enough, a bussiness will just give in. I say kudos to companies that don't...you don't need that kind of bussiness anyway, let them complain and whine.

If Bioware or EA gave us some kind of discount, guess what happens next time there's a delay...people will want more. Dragon Age got delayed several times...I guess they should have just given away the game to make it up to us.

At the end of the day it comes down to one thing...either buy it or don't. If you don't feel the DLC is worth your 5 dollars, then don't buy it...that's the best way to tell Bioware/EA how you feel about their product and service.

While I agree that people who whine and pitch a fit hoping to get something for free are......annoying, I think a company who advertises a particular service should deliver on that promise. When I go out to a burger place that advertises "have it your way", I expect to get my burger "my way". If I do not recieve what they promised, I go and ask them to fix the mistake. It is well within reason to do so.

And what if im not "lovin' it"?

Ummm....... Hit up supermarket and do it yourself? :D

"Let me tell you how to do things. It goes like this," says the all knowning, Armchair Executive, consumer.

This
thread really wreaks of that (above) perspective. I totally get
throwing in your two cents, or in this case contributing your entire
life's earnings (for a certain few someones *cough* *cough*). But seriously, you're playing Armchair Executive here.

Let's keep a few things in mind ...

  • Bioware is Big Business (read: EA)
  • EA,
and the EA Partner Network is a massive Buearacracy. Meaning ... one
guys reports to the guy above him, who reports to the guy above him,
and so on, and so forth.
  • Their [BW] goal is to make
quality games, and satisfy their Partner agreement with EA which is to
    make profitable releases [$$$].
  • They have many, many
managers and executives who make their living trying to sort out
customer loyalty, repeat business, quality control, and all that other
    fun stuff. They are professionals.
  • Problems like this are MUCH more complicated, and have SO many dynamic business factors that for the casual gamer to chime in with "customer service policies" and "effective sales strategies" is really, almost completely useless because their perspective is so far removed from the actual reality of the business.
Do
I oppose the voicing of opinions, and the offering of suggestions? Not
at all. Quite the contrary! Big and small business alike are often
times willing to pay for customer feedback, it is so important. But what I see here seems like a lot of Armchair Executives.

It's when the feedback enters into the realm of business-coaching that
it could come across as slightly offensive. Happens all the time in all
walks of life, and this perspective is often times lost on the masses: You are far, far removed from the realities and complexities of the business.

If you approached the scenario with the humbled perspective that you are the consumer, instead of "hey, here is some good business advice for you. I recommend you take notes" then I'm inclined to think that you're effect will be greater in the end.

Just my four-cents ... Let the flaming begin [!]

Be peaceful on your way,
Time_Spiraling

So sorry to disappoint you, I've been in an executive position for years and now in a consulting position. Granted it's not big-time gaming like Bioware/EA, but the parallels between my business (IT/SD) and what Bioware/EA do are quite clear.

I'm not talking out of my ass here, I'm talking about the same tactical decisions as they relate to high-level strategies that I'm 100% sure EA is thinking about.

Again, it's not about the delay, it's about how they *handled* the delay and all the other facepalm moments that came up around the release/not release of RtO.

And the entire point of my proposal is not to set out a way for Bioware/EA to make up for the delay.  It is to provide a way of saying "our bad with this RtO thing, here's a bone, won't happen again... hey buy this new shiney thing!"  I think everyone's learned a lesson in how to manage a release announcements by now.  I don't expect the same kind of flubs to happen again in the future.

Lol...that's still asking for something for free. Again, what do they owe you? Nothing. Either buy it when it's available or don't. What hardships did the delay cause you? If you are a gamer, you should know these kinds of delays happen all the time...and these protest, post and demands get made all the time...then the product comes out, and everyone is happy again. It's really commical.

If you don't agree with what they have done, then don't give them your bussiness, it's really that simple. Everywhere you go in any gamming community, cries about DLC and how it's handled...yet people still buy it. People protested over MW2 and L4D2, yet they all still bought it...they really showed them! Until people stand up for what they actually say and stop buying DLC when they feel it's not worth their money, or how the release was handled, then companies will continue with the same practices.

I was one of the people trying to defend it not long ago, you can ask Dahelia lol. However were up to... what now? 3 delays, an early Xbox release, and an almost game breaking bug?

I have quite a bit of patience, but this whole thing turned into a huge mess. Its an hour long DLC, how will thier "2 years of DLC content" play out?

And don't use that "everyone who is not on my side is living in their mothers basement" @#$%, its older than sin.

Oh, everything has a bright side, I am sure of it. If not for anything else, BW will not repeat the same mistake again, I HOPE, and inform a released date until it is actually all set and ready to rock and roll.

Better give an ETD/ETA and an official fixed date only when there is no possible "Murphy" factor to interfere than being used as an example to Murphy's Law! Anyone who dealt with international maritime shipment which includes transshipment in some ports around the Globe can tell you that!

Yep, there's a difference between the idiots who are arguing only because they wanted on the fifth and are not conscious of Murphy's law, between the other group of people (where I'm included) that went on a rage madness (really, 10 kitties died) because they were not clear with their costumers and were treating us like 13 year old kids by not being clear and saying 5 minutes before deadline that they had problems... and then the 2nd deadline.
Now I'm glad that Chris manifested himself and told us that there was no ETA and they were hardly working on the issues. That was what they should have done since the beginning.

It's seemingly even worse because in this case, the people comaplaining the most vocally and aggressively will be the first ones to purchase the DLC, making their entire case invalid.
They're just complaining for attention, if they were even remotely serious about themselves or their point, they would have already decided not to support the DLC and would therefore stop caring when it is going to come out.

Honestly if they grow and learn from this mistake at all, I'm sure they're more interested in learning how to avoid having their content leaked before release rather than any sort of 'dealing with the public' or 'avoiding simultaneous release problems' sort of growth.   One could almost guarantee with certainty that release dates will continue to be missed in the future, it is the nature of their business.
A little more skill handling the irate customers and a little more discretion with the software before release date should be their real concerns.

Yeah I mean food allergies are kind of serious!

But I know what you mean, I have an uncle from Israel that we took on vacation to Czech. There he got an iced coffee for the first time and he was totally obsessed by it from then on. But it had to be a very specifically made ice coffee. If they made it wrong (with ice cubes instead of icecream or something..) he'd be like YOU CALL THAT AN ICE COFFEE! THAT'S NOT AN ICE COFFEE! ARGH! Made us want to avoid restaurants :)

But anyway, there's a point. It's not like endless complaining is going to change things. I bet some (like me! I bore easily..) spend more time obsessively checking the forums than the 1h/1.5h RtO gameplay :P

On that note, good night!

From the looks of things..we have been getting info we require...AS THEY RECEIVE IT.    They can't give what they don't have.

Yeah because you are just one of those people that take their word as gold....I don't because there is more information, they just release the information that covers their behind.

Thanks to those who are staying on topic for, well, staying on topic. For those who aren't, please get back on topic. Just a reminder: we are not a *chan image board or IRC.

I think somone is telling on themselves.  What kinda weirdness is Stan into?  Delicious cake perhaps?

I think we've found the original owner of the "found cake"

I'd take the free MS points and spend it on anything other than DA:O. I really don't understand why people even want the RtC DLC, 800 MS points just for a set of armor, lets face it that is all the content will be, its not like you are going to have any real side quests to do.

Just think if you did not spend any of your MS points on DA:O DLC you could now get Shadow Complex for the same amount of points. Thats a whole game right there not an hours worth of content included in all DLCs for DA:O combined...

No...I am not ..I will debate things..if I think its warranted.    This case scenario doesn't warrant it in my view.

Just looks like alot of "entitlement" going on..alot of erroneous speculation and conspiracy building, meanwhile these guys are working their tails off trying to fix whats going on behind the scenes.

Can't you step back from what YOU WANT for two seconds and look at it from their side of the fence?

You know..walk a mile in their shoes?    A 5 dollar dlc...and so much uproar, threats ..etc going on..you would think it was World War III.

I have witnessed this from the first day they first announced that RTO was coming...its never ending.   I am surprised they haven't shut us all down...period.

In other words..you'll get it when its ready...and thats that.

I think all we really want is for a dev to come on here and be like "This company shall fall, and from it we will build a new Bioware, that will shake the very FOUNDATIONS of the world..."

You know..I have a sister-in-law ..that we used to go to restaurants with...let me emphasize "used to"...she used to cause a fuss every possible time she could..in restaurants ..in front of the rest of us.

Used to embarrass the hell out of me, to the point I finally refused to go dining with her, she was just that spoiled, obnoxious..etc.

These threads that go on and on ...bashing Bioware, full of me me me ..I want I want..I want it yesterday, ...and showing a total lack of understanding about anything...remind me of her.

Oh no...if I say something and I mean it...and they do something else...I will be pissed, I happen to be allergic to a few food types....and yeah...if I end up getting sick because of it...because I said "No this" and they do it anyways...that is their ass. That is what I mean. I know people like that but sorry we complain about not being satified...I guess it wrong of us to do right?? Naughty of us to actually complain.

Yeah sure the team of developers that made Dragon Age, BG, NWN etc. couldn't realize they had problems until 5 minutes before?
It's not that, they were just irresponsible with us and I think they tried to fix it as fast as possible trying to accomplish the deadline they had given us... and -I know it's like the over 9000 time I say this- they just should have said "Fffffffffffffff- we find some nasty bugs and we are trying to fix them, no ETA but it wont take more than 3 months"

How about I do...all the time but I have a little more respect for my customers....5 dollars, 2 dollars, 10 dollars...it is money...money they want for a DLC they can't even get right.
