Apart from host dependency, why do so few people use the Graal?

For something that shoots spikes it's lack of cover penetration makes absolutely no sense.
Should have the same penetration as the kishock.

It is accurate as hell, has damage comparable to the claymore and its still not that heavy. The delay is absolutely manageable in close-mid range. If i'm right if it's charged then it deals higher damage then the claymore (correct me if im wrong). It ignores armor DR so i dont have to use AP ammo or Shredder or HVB mod.

but I find the graal underwhelming against bosses, especailly on platinum. on gold, it's fine but I'd much rather use the claymore

I like being able to shoot through enemies. it is too much fun blasting the heads off 3 guardians with my claymore in 1 shoot.

The Graal does shoot through enemies, just not cover.

I hadn't used the Spikethrower in a while and decided to use it on a GE against Collectors Gold, it really is a lovely weapon, with hunter mode in particular you can get perfect headshot across the map, it staggers, is good against armour and has almost unreal synergy with incendiary ammo. I think I might use it more often now. The only issues it has are 1. you have to host and 2. you usually need something against Guardians though with hunter mode mail slotting might be easier.
Speaking of collectors, when I was doing the Graal Use challenge, it proved to be the only gun that could reliably stagger Praetorians. Graal Spikethrower definitely needs more love.

This is incorrect. As a projectile weapon, not only is it bad against armor, armor piercing mods and ammo also have no effect. There are things to like about it: good range and damage, but a Wraith with high velocity barrel and smart choke does the same for me, without the impotence against armor.

Even when you miss, you hit.

I thought the Graal (and GPS for that matter) ignored armor?

Wraith is one of the best weapon in the game, i admit. But to make the best out of it, im using it with HVB and Smart choke V too, like you. But for a meelee based class i have to replace one mod for the Omni Blade. Take away the either the HVB or the Smart Choke from the Wraith, and its instantly not that great anymore. So i prefer the Graal with Omni Blade and High Caliber Barrel for my Talon Vanguard.

Graal does crazy damage on some kits though, it's quite under-rated. Same with the Kishock, although to much lesser extent.

Logic. Sad logic, but logic.
I really enjoy the Graal. It just....delivers so much pincushionity. Manliest shotgun in existance. Apart from the Crusader of course.

the piranha has a very limited range. Dont get me wrong, i like it on characters with accuracy bonuses (Hunter Mode, Devestator mode, Marksman) but outside of that im not that big fan of the gun.

i honestly say (but i know it's heresy): i like graal better than claymore.
cover piercing: i don't care. and it may be a bit difficult but it can go through even guardian shield (if you are close enough and aim at the peephole).
edit: so satisfying when i headshot a gold phantom with a charged shot. instakill.

people tell me all the time that graal sucks off host. Im using it a lot off host and doesn't feel those problems i was reading a lot on this forum. Maybe becouse im from Europe where the relative distance between players is generally much more smaller then between NA players? That would be one guess.

a charged graal shot does 2600 damage. a claymore 1600. (without any passive or mods or consumables).
and worth mention it has a higher headshot modifier (300%).
IT IS A BEAST if used correctly.

High DPS and good headshot modifier, but it's harder to use than the likes of the Claymore.
But then what do I know? I never host, so I've not really used the weapon.
