When I create my minimaps, it seems to generate them using roof objects as well, so, in my cave system I have some large 'rockwall08' objects used to create the roofs, usually set at an angle, so that from a top-down perspective of creating a minimap, part of the rock is visible (unavoidable unless I set it to a flat-plane, which is boring).
It seems like generated minimaps would look MUCH better if it converted to 'Fade Cutaway' mode before rendering, that way you get to pick and choose the relevant objects to display. Does anyone know if that is even possible?
Secondly, how do you set a background for a minimap? Mine seem to be using a light-blue colour and I'm unsure how to change it.
Finally, the lighting in minimap rendering seems to be abnormally dark, even though it seems to disable the actual lighting during the render and use equal brightness for everything. Is there a way to ensure the minimap is more clear and visible?
Thanks.

All at a loss on this one, huh?

Not really at a loss, that's just how the minimap rendering works. They are pretty much meant to be edited by hand, using the generated minimap as a guide for where to put stuff.

Oh, what I forgot, about the cutaway system:
The building blocks by default are either fully visible through cutaway, get faded out through cutaway, or consist of two parts (one "bottom" that stays visible, and a "top" that fades away). You can however override that behavior by selecting the object and toggling the "Cut Away Override" in your level. "None" means default behaviour, "False" means it's always visible, and "True" means it will fade away.
Good for building roofs with non-roof objects.

Interesting...so what tool can I use to edit the minimap and where can I find the file?

The minimap is a standard .DDS image file, so any image editing program that can read/write those will do.
The minimap should be in:
AddIns\\<youraddin>\\core\\override\\toolsetexport\\<levelname>\\minimap\\

An alternative is to group all of the models used for the roof and set the groups visable property to false, then generate the minimap. The minimap is a screenshot of the level at the time it is generated. So by generating it with the roof as non-visable should correctly generate it without having the roof in the way.
Hope that helps.
