I agree with the general sentiment of this thread (more customization in how our characters look). However, did you really need to be so insulting, OP? I know plenty of women who look like FHawke, myself included, who have no trouble "lifting a cardboard box." Smaller women and bigger women all put on muscle differently, and their looks often don't indicate their actual, physical strength. So, yes, I would really like to customize exactly how my character's body looks, as per my own headcanon of what's appropriate, but maybe we shouldn't go around invalidating other body types as "unrealistic."

this.

Why does this matter at all as a warrior you'll be wearing armor that bulks you up as a female anyway, you guys are just really being nitpicky at this point.

Am I supposed to be surprised that BSN regulars don't know that 99% of females can't put on muscle mass naturally, without testosterone and growth hormones?

This is the kind of ignorance I expected to see here.

So, how much practical experience do you have with that subject to back up your claim?

All I can say is that a friend of mine is a hobby athlete (pole vaulting) and she recently started to lift weights (I got her into it) just for the heck of it, she got quite bulky in only a couple of months without taking any kind of hormones or drugs.
And surprisingly enough she still doesn't look like man because her muscles fibers increased in thickness.

I think its funny that people here make ridiculous claims about body shape while having evidently zero experience with sports, weight lifting and the female body.

Exactly this.  Finally someone knows what they're talking about.

A woman typically has two thirds the muscle mass of men. Lack of testosterone makes it very difficult to improve on that. I'm talking "average" here. A man who never uses his muscles; no exercise, low protein diet, etc, would be physically weaker than an athletic woman. As for appearance, I think most female body builders look hideous. So it can be taken to extremes.

That's a nice anecdote, but my point still stands. Less than 1% of females are genetically predisposed to gaining muscle mass, and even they are "capped" pretty low compared to men.

Where did you pull that ridiculous 1% out from?

Genetics plays only a minor role in physical build, muscle mass depends largely on nutrition, the kind of exercise you do, how many reps you make. However, genetics plays a role in muscle SHAPE. Some peoples biceps muscle start right from the crook of the arm while others have their biceps start 4cm above the crook - and that kind of stuff.
Genetics is mostly shape.

You can't say that person X can't become bulked because his genetics prevents him from building any kind of noteworthy muscle mass. Thats just flat out wrong, genetics and the human body don't work that way.

I support a more muscular female PC. I think a texture change would be enough to show muscle definition. They wouldn't have to make her arms larger.

I would totally approve of a slider, if they decide to go that route. More customization is a great thing!

I wouldn't exactly call man Hawke "buff." He is "fit," for a guy. Lady Hawke is also fit.

I support multiple body types tho.

Neither sheps or hawke are "buffed". They are fit, with a physique of some one in good shape. But they aren't muscular. Since the man don't even have washboard abbs, I don't see why the women should have bulging muscles..

MaleHawke is muscular, he only lacks definition. Origins' male characters for example didn't have the amount of arm/chest muscles Hawke has, but they were ripped.

To that 1% thing: It is correct that for women it is normally a lot harder to put on muscle mass and gain definition as for a man, but in the end it mostly comes down to nutrition, the right exercises and cardio. Genetics influence the shape and metabolism. Because of the latter it can be harder/easier to put on muscle mass, but it's also harder/easier to put on fat.

Since my girlfriend is an athletic ( hurdle races) I actually know some female athletics and they can gain muscles and become ripped.

Oh I think they can put on light muscles but they have to work ridiculously hard for not much results.

I approve of having the option to play a female character with a more muscular physique. If my character is waving a greatsword around all day, she shouldn't have toneless arms.

Hopefully there will be a range of phenotypes, for both male and female characters.

the average sedentary male is easily stronger than an athletic woman. most women that are into sports dont really focus on gaining body mass and are relatively small to begin with. healthier however...

Through lifting weights women can get muscle definition but not muscle mass. Those exceptional few that have the genetic glitch which makes it easier for them to achieve muscle hypertrophy can put on maybe 5 pounds of muscle before they hit the cap. By improving muscle tone strength will increase as well, but again, only up to a point.

If anyone really cares about the right answer they can always check it out online. I'm not in the business of denying anyone their little pet beliefs that have no basis in reality.

Unrealistically buff women would be silly but in the past female protagonists in Bioware games haven't even looked like female athletes, which is also really silly. I'm all for buff (but not steroided looking,) warrior women, especially for a character who swings around a sword in heavy armor all day.

I thought they handled female Hawke pretty well, but I'll agree with the OP, female Shepard was kinda ridiculous. The option for an Aveline like build would of course be appreciated.

I think you would be surprised at some skinnier peoples strength. that said I think they should have an option to be a little bigger. alot of people would be mad if the female character looked like a body builder but I think a little muscle and a six pack would be fine

It is harder for women to get the size men do but they can get as strong and they can have decent size muscles. trust me when I say I have seen women like fem hawk size beat guys in arm wrestling that are james form ME3 size and I have seen women fem hawks size squat 400 pounds and out lift many guys that were bigger. basically they have a harder time getting huge but they can and they don't need roids or stuff like that. if they eat enough and work out enough they can get big

I think they should just put a slider. I didn't mind FemHawke's body too much, but I'd love the option to increase muscle mass and size just so my warriors could look intense. Also, yeah, FemShep's body was done horribly in ME3 and I would hate for the female protagonist of Inquisition to look like... that.
