Project Q v1.6 has been released to the Vault. Most of the content is up - just waiting for Rolo to link in the /ambient and /hak downloads. It'll also be up on the Nexus later today.

Project Q v1.6 can be downloaded from the Vault:

Awesome!

That came as totally unexpected for me, but it's just what I needed to play with for the week-end. Hopping over to the Vault to fetch it.

Thank you, Pstemarie ^.^

Drat, drat and triple drat... I am still stuck in rehab center, waiting on a piece of titanium (they should have just used stainless steel) with a borrowed laptop from this place (IE, noting installed but win 7 and firefox) And you guys go and release this?!@!!!!!

My home internet connection was turned off yesterday, along with my home phone and some other things that I can no longer afford... so, now I get to drool over something I can' even dream of installing for several months.....

/me bows his head and cries.

While I think this is great after a little reflection, my first reaction was somewhat different -> Dang, I wish they'd released that 2 days ago when I had some bandwidth to use up (my inet is on a rolling contract with an up to data allowance).

Followed by -> Dang, I wish they'd waited until after the end of this month's ABC, not enough time to find and understand which goodies work best with my module. Dang.

Followed by puzzlement as to why it has been released in the way that it has on the vault. Why release both a complete version and also seperate portions of the same thing. It's not as though it saves much on the individual (i.e. the hak archive makes up the majority of the overall size anyway) download side. Being used to things like (even if I have some issues with it) CEP, I had downloaded most of it (but thankfully not the haks 7zip) before I was aware there was an everything is in here archive. A little word at the top of the page would have helped. Cest la vie.

@Bannor Bloodfist get well soon.

Good point, Tarot - the notation about the full archive has been added.

As for making individual components available, call it a transition phase over to a new methodology. With the loss of the updater, I've had to rethink how Q is delivered to end-users. The first step is transitioning to a FULL archive download.

The next TENTATIVE step - beginning with v1.7 - will be to utilize patch downloads that only contain those files that have been updated. For example, if no additional resopurces are added to q_race.hak in Q v1.7, then the 1.7 archive will not contain that hak. This will cut down on download size and make it easier on end users.

PStermarie, this stuff looks great! Good work holding it all together.

regarding "patch downloads":

Simplicity is more important to players than the size of the download.
Your patch approach is more useful for developers, builders, makers etc..., but could end up making things more complicated for players with more downloads to choose from, some of them optional, and the possibility - if you have not yet used Q - that you could end up downloading an incomplete portion of it is a problem.

I think players need one download with every HAK, TLK, ambent sound, etc... included in one archive with instructions as to what to do with it. And this archive needs to be clearly marked as the one to grab.

Good points, Henesua. I'm still mulling this all over so nothing is set in stone yet. Maybe the simplest thing to do is just offer a single download going forward from v1.7. I'm all for simple in the end...

I'd suggest having a single download on the page, but a link to another page for 'updated' content, if anyone wants to go that route. That way, it's accessible to those in the know, but newcomers can simply grab the whole package at a click.

Also, huge thanks for all your work on this (and other things). Awesome!

I agree with Frith5.

Yes, it would be nice to have an "update" option in the future, or even better yet an "auto-update" like in the past, but I realize it would be used mostly by builders and players that know their way around custom content, which probably are in the minority.

Most people just want to click download, and play. It's a reality.

The displacer beast is extremely cool. I had expected a re-skinned panther... it's just wow. Well animated too with tentacle attacks and everything. The ugly old zombies are gone!

Now I have to put together a modern rig that can run nwn properly...

All that praise belongs to DM Shade, who created the original model and animations. All I did was increase the poly-count slightly and tweak some of the animations so they were more fluid.

Know you been busy - we pretty much stopped developing stuff back in early January. Figured releasing what we had would give us a much needed "pick-me-up".

I know, I needed the pick me up as activity had pretty much dropped to nil on our forums and bioware's and without input it seems your doing things for nothing but to see the people are using whats being put out gets the juices flowing again. Just wish more people would drop into the Q forum and share ideas for new art resources.

New ideas and encouragement goes a long way in the motivation to complete new stuff. Image IPB

sorry for the necro. but i have a small observation to report:

the minotaurchief and shaman from project q have black horns. not naturally black looking, but completelly devoid of light.
the two textures wrm_mino and wrm_mmino are missing the horn part that is present in wrm_Cmino. copying this over will fix the problem, though a little tinting couldn't hurt either (though i'm currently perfectly fine with the simple copy/paste job i did myself).
just for clarity: this problem is present in the original files by lord of worms already. while it may be intentional, i think it doesn't look too good. nothing against a dark/near black horn, but this?
it loos like the horn texture was added to the wrm_Cmino file at a later point, whith the wrm_mino (this is what the chief minotaur uses) being an exact copy, except for the missing horn texture section.

are you aware of this already for 1.7?

best regards, Gruftlord
