If anyone knows why this is happening, I would appreciate any help.

Within The Ruins of Arvahn, I did everything (the Gerns Mines, the Riverguard Keep, the Temple of Seasons) except the Song Portal.

So, after completing all of those parts, I go to the Song Portal, and then, when I try to go through it, it simply wont let me. The transition just wont work, which basicaly, wont allow me to progress further into the game/story.

Any idea why this is happening? If so, what would be the solution?

After getting so far into the game, it is kinda frustrating to get a bug like this. I just hope there is a solution to this other then uninstalling the game from my PC............

You have activated the statues of purification?

If you have then what do you have in your override folder?

You mentioned three statues - there is a fourth one outside, right near the entrance to the area.

Yes, four of the five rituals have been done prior, so the song portal is the last one.

As for the "override folder", I am not certain what you are refering to.

I have unistall the game now, saved my "save games" and I am about to re-install the entire game. Hopefully this will help.

Like I said, all the four rituals/purification prior the song portal have been done. So, why is it that I could not go through the portal is complete mistery to me.

Any other suggestion?

So, re-installed the entire game. Went back to the Song Portal and then, again... nothing. And yes, prior to my post, I did all the statues, including the one near the entrance. I actually did the entrance first, then the riverguard, then the mines and then the temple. I actually did not know that the Song Portal had to be done last. I just happened to go through each purifications in the order mentionned above.

I also looked in my "override folder" and the folder is empty. Nothing inside. Should there be something, a solution? How is it relevant to this?

One thing is sure, if the game was kinda new, I could understand a problem like this one, but after all these years that the game is out, and something like that happens.... Pathetic if you ask me. . I am in no way restarting the game from the start. Looks like this bug does not have a solution to it. Kills the game right there.

Anyway, if anyone can point to a solution, I would be most grateful.

The Override folder ... when the game installs it creates two major folder structures. The installation folder where its told to go, and the player folder in your UserDocuments folder. These two structures 'mimic' each other, and allow modifications to be made, in the player folder, that 'override' the installation folder


As to the song portal: as an almost fully modifiable game we players get access to the developers' console. I don't know why these bugs happen but there's usually a way through them using the console.

Open it by pressing ` ( ~/tilde beside 1/!, under Escape ) -- that's for standard English keyboards.

Enter Debugmode by typing in the console

debugmode 1

Next the command that should do what the song portal ought have done:

rs ga_jump_players("2452_wp_portal", 1, 0)

then close the console after transitioning

debugmode 0

The portal has three different destinations and I'm sorta guessing where it should be going, so I'm gonna jot the script name down here in case me, you, or someone wants a closer look at it: '2410_tr_portal_cl', 2400_Illefarn_Ruins

the game has a remarkable ability to recover from bugs like this, but i suspect you may be having more probs. with that portal,

if so, try setting this:

rs ga_global_int("24_bPlayedPortalCS", "1")


i Looked more closely and that seems likely what was kicking the portal-script out early.

I am back to the Keep now, so when I log back into the game later I'll try that setting you just mentioned.

Also, what would make a companion, Neeshka in my case, which is not on puppet mode, not attack any enemies during a fight? All my companions have the same settings, and for some reason, she doesnt attack anyone which means I have to select her myself and have her attack, otherwise she wont. Is there a "debug" for this as well?

idk.

peeps keep having problems like that w/ companions & idk. Try TonyK's AI ( compmonai2.2.zip ) it's a better ai that gives more detailed control over companion behavior, and sometimes it straightens companions out. Or try turning the AI button off & on, issuing & reissuing orders -- sometimes that straightens 'em out.



I got a quick question about the portal. Was Zhjaeve in your party when you completed the fourth ritual?

Thanks for tip for companions.

As for Zhjaeve, she was there all along for all rituals. In fact, if I remember correctly, we can't travel to the area without her in the party. I remember trying but was not allowed since I did not have her in the group. I had to select her as a party member in order to get there.

ok that's good then.

The reason i asked is because after the fourth ritual there should be a brief conversation with her, which starts the song portal. She says "The final statue of purification lies past the portal." And it's so important that the designers give no less than 3 different ways to start that dialog.

Further than that i'm trying to half-whimsically establish what went wrong, but it's complicated because of the 3 destinations going 3 areas all juggling several variables trying to keep things sorted. My advice is don't try to push anything yet -- not even that last command until you need it; make saves at the portal before trying to use it. (when the times comes, I'm sketchy on the sequence of events unfortunately)

I read this last night while Zoas' use of the script call was pending, and I thought about the Zhjaeve announcement. One version works when you come out of a building after completing statue #4; another happens if you complete #4 outside. I don't know what the third version would be - I assume it must be for returning to the area with the Song Portal undone. But I can't think of a situation where you wouldn't have already heard the announcement, so maybe that extra speech trips the switch back to "off."

[re-edit]  I had a question here, but I'm pretty sure the answer is already above - that you are talking about three versions of the same announcement.

I actualy, after doing the first statue when you come into the area for the first time, went around exploring the different options I had, and in so doing, I went by the song portal, clicked on it by curiosity not knowing anything about it at the time, and then Zhjaeve did mention something about it, (dont remember exactly what though) but I did not not try to go through it because I simply wanted to do the other locations first without even knowing that the portal had to be done last. So, maybe, it's the reason things went wrong.

In any case, I am now into the "Haven" location right after solving the braziers and things around that. So far, all is good.

area: 2410_ogruins (area w/ song portal)
onClientEnter: '2410_area_ce', line 67 Zhjaeve starts dialog '24_cs_portal'
onHeartbeat: '2410_hb', line35 Zhjaeve starts dialog '24_cs_portal'
then on trigger near portal, tr_30_zh_portal,
onEnter: '30_trsn_zh_portal', line 25 Zhjaeve starts dialog '24_cs_portal'

That dialog is a simple one main node branch and all Zhjaeve says is that one line; but it starts up the portal by setting the global "24_bPlayedPortalCS". It also starts keeping "nLastSongPortal" sorted as to which was the last portal used, and though i dont know what that's really about I think it has something to do with the other portal where, you know, bad things occur near West Harbor. It also clears a local_int "bStartPortalCS" that is stored on the area_object, which seems to merely stop the areaHB from bothering the player.

Then there's dialog '30_zh_portal' mixed in here and there but that should be later, Act III.



right on, Z. There is a short intro from Zhjaeve apart from this dialog that starts up the portal. She says a couple of lines about Illefarn portals and the quest, A Strange Dias, appears in your journal, but that's it until the 4 rituals are complete.
