It was just after speaking to the hill tribe and fighting them , i headed round the corner and got into a fight with about 5 Durthans . I had on spell protection so they were struggling to hurt me .
After i killed the first one really quick with my ranger the other 4 i just could not attack or hurt for what seemed like ages , melee wouldnt work , none of my spells would let me select them , i tried spell breach , dispel magic , the level 9 spell thats strips lots of magic defence but i just couldnt seem to actually attack them . every now and then i could suddenly attack them with melee or spells directly . I think large areaof effect spells worked now and then as well.
It made this a very dull , tedious , confusing and annoying battle were i was just left wondering what the hell was going on. It ws frustrating as i had to keep trying to attack over and over.
Was fghting Durthans and was confused why i couldnt hit them at all

They were ethereal. Ethereal creatures can't be targetted. They CAN be hurt by area effect spells, though. (p.s. to fighters - did you know that Whirlwind Attack is an area effect "spell?")
Best be ready to handle that - you're going to be seeing a lot more of it.

thank you , i did think they might have been invisible or something as they did look ethereal . Kind of hard to tell sometimes with the amount of crazy spell effects.
Can you remove ethereal from them with a spell?

Greater Dispel Magic sometimes works* - easier just to bombard them.
* Targetted as an area; I have a modded version of the spell, though, and I don't remember if the original version lets you do that.

thanks again , i tried greater dispel magic , if it worked then he must have gone ehtereal almost instantly , i think it didnt work , but might just have been a failed roll.
think it lets you target an area .
I'll try it again next time.
