Return to Ostagar Equipment Discussion

From what I've seen, it feels like there's only a few items from Ostagar that are worth replacing some of the old gear with. Now keep in mind, I haven't opened the toolset so I'm not sure what the set bonuses for the Ostagar pieces are. If someone has figured that out... it would be great if they could post it here.
I've figured out the following just by playing around with some of the gear:
Cailin's armor set (-20% fatigue)
Maric's Sword + Cailin's Shield (I'm getting +5 extra damage on my character damage sheet).
Duncan's sword + dagger... no bonus, so pairing them is pointless
So unless there's more set bonuses that I'm unaware of I've come to the following conclusions about the Ostagar gear:
1. Cailin's Boots are godly. Put them on your tank immediately. +20% dodge is insane.
2. Evon the Great's Mail is still the best tank armor in the game. Cailin's chest pales in comparison.
3. Warden armor beats all of the Ostagar armor. No point in dropping Warden's on your DPS Warrior for any of the Ostagar stuff. Although the bonus on Cailin's gloves are very nice, I still wouldn't break up the Warden set bonus for it.
4. Nug Crusher is out done by Chasind Great Maul. It makes for a nice secondary weapon if you got the Starfang 1 hander and have a second Warrior you want to throw a weapon to (I gave Nug Crusher to Sten). The chance to stun on Nug Crusher IS very nice, but I wouldn't take the loss in damage for it.
5. Duncan's Sword could make an amazing offhand weapon for a DW Warrior. 2 stamina regen is amazing.
6. Starfang 1 hander... is IMO... better than Maric's Blade by a large margin against everything except Darkspawn. Even then I'd still use Starfang over it because it has 3 rune sockets while Maric's blade only has 2. It's honestly a toss up for me here... but I still think Starfang is the better choice because it's great against everything. However if you got the Starfang 2H then Maric's Blade is a great replacement for the final battle.
7. Duncan's dagger is terrible unless you're fighting dragons. In which case it's absolutely amazing.
8. Corrupted Magister's Staff gets out done by Staff of the Magister Lord.
9. Repeater Gloves gives you Rapid Aim. I suppose this could actually be amazing witih some of the end game crossbows without Rapid Aim, however I'd still think Far Song is the best bow of choice and already comes with that modifier.
So what do we get out of Ostagar? 1 pair of overpowered tank boots (Like sword and board warriors weren't overpowered enough with end game gear), an awesome offhand sword, a dagger that's overpowered against dragons, great archer gloves, and an alternative to the 1H starfang vs Darkspawn.
The rest of the gear can basically be shrugged off, unless there's any extra bonuses to Cailin's armor that makes it amazing. I'll leave someone else to figure out whether or not that's the case.
Comments/insight is appreciated.

King Calin's armour I picked up a Level 5 (Red Steel) and used my Party Chest to get it to Level 7 (Dragonbone).
However does anyone notice how cheap Calin's armour is cost wise. Not that you would sell it, but if you do the breastplate is little over 1 Sovereign at level 7 despite easily being the best armour in the game!!

Duncan's sword is the best offhand weapon for a DW warrior by far IMO. It's also insanely good as an offhand (or mainhand) vs darkspawn.
Sadly there's better offhand weapons than Duncan's dagger, so it will remain the best main hand dagger vs dragons.
Edit: Unforuntately you can't upgrade the new staff you get from Ostagar. It stays at tier 5.

I remember taking a key from a prisoner and using it to open the mage's chest in pre-betrayal Ostagar. However now on my return, the key is no longer in my inventory.
Checking through on all my characters, none of them have the key anymore. I assume it was lost when I used it the first time? So how does one still open the mage's chest?

There's a dead corpse in a cage at the beginning of Ostagar that you get the key from.
When I tried to loot the corpse with a charcter who had already taken the key -- there was no key on the corpse.
Strangely, the chest was still locked. Should we chalk it up to the DLC being premature?

I'm not sure what you mean by already taken the key. If you already took the key you should be able to use it on the chest. I walked in, went up to the corpse in the cage (the cage is kind of wedged into the snow), grabbed the key and unlocked the chest when I came across it.

Sorry, that wasn't clear at all.
On my first character, I fed the prisoner in Ostagar #1 without taking the key. When I took him to Ostagar #2, the prisoner's corpse had the key, and I opened the chest.
On my second character, I straight murdered the prisoner for the key and opened the chest in Ostagar #1. When I took her to Ostagar #2, the prisoner's corpse was unlootable, but the chest was locked, glowing, and selectable but unopenable.

The real question is, what's the point of being so well geared? There's not really much of anything to use your amazing gear on.
To blaze through the expansion of course.

I just hate the way The kings armour looks with the helmet. That helm is just off-setting.

Am I missing something? Return to Ostagar hasn't been released yet...
It was briefly released on the 360, and then promptly recalled. But there were plenty who snagged it. Don't feel too bad, because all of us had to go through a trippy spec bug that is fortunately correctable by clearing the system cache.
OT: I did RtO with one of my endgame characters, and now I'm doing it with a level 12 rogue. I'm looking forward to taking Duncan's dagger against the High Dragon. Should give me a little more of an advantage. But I'm upset that you only get item set bonuses for Cailan's armor if you equip the helmet. I hate the helmet (though, I hate most helmets in this game; I like seeing my characters' faces, grr).

Well and I wonder if I'll have to strip my companions of their best stuff so I can take it with me for my "new" friends in the sequel. My **** I'm letting Allistair roam off to do whatever with the Blood Dragon Armor and Duncan's Sword.
