Also, Cailan's sword and shield is a weapon set for sword and board warriors. I forgot the set bonus but it was fairly decent so it's probably an upgrade over the starfang 1hander for tanking warriors as well. Though I think Cailan's shield was garbage truth be told.

Mentioned that in my post. Cailin's shield is garbage. The set bonus is +5 damage. Fade wall is superior in every which way to Cailin's shield as well as the set bonus between the two.

However, if you're trying to build a DPS sword and board warrior I suppose it's an option...

Edit: Oh and it's Maric's sword + Cailin's shield. It's not Cailin's sword.

With Starfang + Fade Wall Alistair's damage is at 52.3 at level 24 (for my build).
Maric's Sword + Cailin's shield his damage is 53.5.

That's not exactly a fair trade off for losing the awesomeness that is Fade Wall.

However, as I mentioned before... using Fade Wall + Maric's Sword is probably your best option when fighting Dark Spawn.

Cailan's shield SUCKS. Maric's sword takes a backseat to Starfang.

Cailan's armor looks cool, but lacks the uniqueness of the Warden Commander Armor. Stat-wise, though, it's pretty darn good... except the helmet which completely throws the whole set off.

I think that scales.  What was your level when you got it and you could try selling it to a merchant, leave the area, and then come back to see if it is upgraded.  Sure you lose out on some money but upgraded weapons  work out nice.

If you didn't get it during the SNAFU window, you'll have to wait with the rest of the hoi polloi.

It's not like there isn't enough overpowered equipment in the game already.. even stronger stuff would be.. well... overpowering :D. If these are relativel easy to get it's nice though since most other powerfull stuff you don't need anymore if you can get it..

- Ow I've beaten gaxkang and now have a keening blade and a fade wall.. but since I've already beaten him there isn't much use for it anymore except to kill the last few darkspawn I could kill with a dull teaspoon and a grey iron kettle armor suit anyway.

I appreciate the fact that Meric's blade has no strength requirement. I haven't been able to use Starfang with my rogue (so Alistair always gets it), but this one does quite nicely.

Still having trouble with the whole locked mage's chest thing, though. :(

No armour beats the Juggernaut. Especially if you use the Ring of Ages and the Creationists Cord. I'm using Starfang 1H as my main hand and Maric's Blade as my Secondary, and the Ageless Greatsword as my 2H. I decided to have my warrior as a Dual-Weapon Master on this run-through lol He kicks Arse bad style :D

Has anyone else gotten duncan's sword attatched to the dagger in a rune space allowing for the dagger to receive all of the sword's boosts aswell? I just decided to re play awakening and loaded a character and noticed the sword in one of the rune slots. I do not remember if you are able to do that or if it might have been a beneficial bug.

for the mage treasure, you can only loot it once. either you open at initial part of ostagar or during the return to ostagar.
if you open it at return to ostagar, you get better stuff. but you wouldn't complete the prisoner quest even after you open it during return to ostagar.
also, if you miss the dog companion during the initial ostagar quest, you can get him again during the RTO dlc.
the equipment lvl is based on what lvl you are at when completing the RTO dlc. but you can easily upgrade them to dragonbone at warden keep.
my DA:O is the ultimate pc version and it comes with all the dlc.
not sure why you didnt get it. are you on console?
