Anyone else sense a similarity between the Grey wardens and Jedi knights?
They are both powerfull peacekeepers and guardians with arcane mystical powers who appear in times of dire need and sort stuff out !! Or is it just me ? lol

Jedi don't appear in time of dire need they were one of the main peacekeeping entities in the galaxy. Yup I'm gonna die alone.

I see no comparison. Grey Wardens are not peacekeepers or guardians they are a group designed to destroy one particular enemy by any means necessary. For Jedi the means are more important than the ends.

no, the darkside is not present hehe. And actually they are much more secretive and have no problem in killing other people in order to preserve their secrets. Just my opinion though

Arcane mystical powers?

What would those be then...infertile and 30 years to live?

Yeah I was going to talk about that angle also but I wanted to avoid anything that might lead to spoilers.

Jedi and Warden are less similar to something like Spectre and Warden. They operate above the law, etc. BioWare likes making the protagonist someone special who stands out above the rest, that's really the only true motif.

Other people compare DA:O to Lord of the Rings, which is absurd. All stories have inspiration from somewhere. DA:O is much closer to the Robert E. Howard's world of Hyboria than Middle Earth. Much more brutal and raw. Still, I maintain that Dragon Age is a fantastic original IP. /High-5 BioWare.

It's just you.

-No philosophy, except ''KILL ALL DARKSPAWN''.

-Ruthless, especially during initiation of potential new members.

-No force powers, just increased hardiness from drinking evil blood.

-No lightsabres, or other signet weapons.

-Disinclined to meddle in politics, unless a politician is actively trying to murder them.

-No master-apprentice system.

Ya, I agree with the above, they really aren't that alike at all, besides being an order and killing baddies. I mean hell, they think that you can pretty much do anything (like blood magic) if in the end the darkspawn are killed... thats like opposit of the jedi.

Infact their more like the sith as they beleave if the ends justify the means it's A.OK!

I disagree. Why do you think Force Field is the most powerful spell in the game?

I certainly played as a Consular; waving my hands at my foes in hopes of dissuading them from their chosen courses of action.

No, I think the Mages are closer to Jedi.

They both have powers no one else has, they both are organized "coucil like" organizations (though there are force/magic users outside said organization, and they both have to be constantly wary of the Darkside/demon possession.

They are also appointed guardians of the kingdom who have been betrayed, and wiped out all but a couple of them........!!

At least no master system we're aware of. Our master wasn't really around long enough to impart much training. If he comes back as a force ghost, though, I think this discussion is finished with. Posted Image

I agree with Super_cat. Mages are Jedi.

Mystical Powers, very strict restrictions on the usage thereof, a well defined hierarchy, taking children who show signs of ability at a young age, and most importantly an animosity towards any who possess their abilities yet exist outside of their order.

If you're going to compare Grey Wardens to anything Star Wars related, they're far closer to the Sith than Jedi...

They are ruthless, pragmatic, and operate under the belief that the end justifies the means..

Yea, not so different then a lot of games, novels, or movies who have the protagonist join some elite fighting force that's closely tied to top levels of government. Think "Soldier" from FFVII.

Not very different from modern day SAS, SEALs, or Black Ops or something except that these fictionalized fighting forces have something special about them - Jedi and their force, Wardens and their taint, etc.

Its just you, Jedi protect the galaxy from everything, Grey Wardens are an order designed to deal specifically with a single threat.

There are superficial similarities, but those similarities apply to so many different groups you could say the Grey Wardens are like the Knights Templar, the Janissaries or modern counter terrorism units.
