So... people like Cullen because of his crush on female mage warden?

So... people want to bring a character almost unimportant in Origins and with a secondary role in 2, just because of that?

...

I don't mean to be rude, but... are you serious?

1. Sigrun
2. Shale
3. Aveline

But only if they stay true to their original personality. If they return Anderized, then no thank you.

All that being said, I'm fine with all new characters.

If Shale has succeeded in becoming a dwarf again, I imagine she would experience quite a bit of character development as a result. Not an Anderization (great word!) but she won't be the same sociopath we had in DAO.

Shale redwarfed would be an excellent idea. She'd probably still hate birds tho'.

Shale's problem is that she was DLC. Although, I admit she was awesome.

It's not as if his role can't be expanded. It already was in DA2.
I don't see the problem.

So you want to bring him and give him a major role just for the sake of it?

"Cullen, what brings you to Val Royeaux?"

"I don't know, I just felt an urgent need to visit the Grand Cathedral"

I have nothing agains't Cullen, but bringing him back just because of that...

Cullen was basically head of the Kirkwall Circle by the end of DAII. Meredith died, whatever you chose the Circle's basically exploded, and then a big mage war was kicked off; not much time to properly decide who'll be the next leader. So, Cullen actually has a reason to be at the Grand Cathedral: the Divine is going to want some answers.

Admittedly, I think the templars have revolted, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Cullen still co-operating with the Chantry. Also, I think the seekers are supposed to be handling most of the whole investigation business, but still.

Personally, I wouldn't mind Cullen as a companion, but I'm not actively demanding it. His role has gradually been expanding over the course of the games, and the whole tragic romance vibe is always nice, but whether he'd make a good "companion" is still up in the air.

Dude's come a long way from originally running from the Circle and killing a bunch of the mages in the original epilogue...

There's more to it than that, but to be fair people wanted Merrill for less. People like his personality, not everyone agrees on why they like him though. It'd be like asking what you like about Iron Man, some of it's a common occurence but others it's something completely different. Some of it's the potential he might have in the future. There is a lot more and there are people who don't even like his personalty but like the character. It's tough to explain.

What really qualifies a character to come back though, or to be clearer what makes you (not you just in general) ready to accept a character previously used as more than fan service? I mean was Anders fan service? Was Merrill or Isabela?

He's a templar, which sets him up to be in either faction (to some extent). He also has a connection to the two other games and can't die in either.

I could keep going but I doubt people want to hear me.

Definitely agreed.
I'm more amenable to NPCs becoming companions then former companions being used again though.

No one, obviously. I don't want to experience the same personality 2x in a row. I'm fine with cameos however.

I'd like Alistair to be a companion again.

I have very mixed feelings about Jowan. On one hand, I'd really like to see what's become of him, but I'm also kinda afraid of what that might be...

Anders, well the Anders that was present in awakening his womanizing personality was funny. In DA2 I don't know what happened to him. Adam Howden can still be his VA he did a fine job, I just didn't like Anders change in personality.

Cole, Cullen and Cassandra. I really don't want to see old companions returning as companions again.
