@Dane and mllrthyme - I stand corrected, like Dane I was using my own native language concepts. It seems in English mllrthyme is absolutely correct

There's too much gay in Bioware games. I think it's rad the worlds more accepting but don't shove it down my throat. A huge reason I disliked Anders in DA2 (aside from the terrible writing) was the fact he flirted with my straight Hawke. He didn't like me as much anymore because I turned down his advances when I was straight.

Anders gets a tiny five point rivalry hit when you turn him down in that scene, and he does it with a female Hawke too, so it has nothing to do with disliking the fact that your male Hawke is straight.  He simply thought he had a "vibe" with the player character, and it apparently wasn't there.  He (mostly) gets over it, and can be Hawke's good friend, if that's how you want it to be.

You can also entirely avoid the flirt dialogue in that scene with Anders.  It's amazing how one line of optional dialogue can completely RUIN Anders forever, but only when the player is a guy who is terribly offended by a flirt line.

I wouldn't mind having a gay male companion, especially if he didn't flirt with my male or tested more to see if my male is gay or straight. like leliana with a female toon, she was a lot more tactful then anders(who I think never should've been bi in the first place since he wasn't in awakening)

They want a valid reason to hate that Anders is bi and to be allowed to be skeeved out by him. They can't just say "Gay men scare me", so they say "The game is punishing me!". It reminds me of all the people who pretended that you could somehow accidentally sleep with Zevran. They either weren't paying attention (which is their fault), or they are looking for a reason to hate the bi guy and so invented a reason that doesn't sound phobic at all.

You know, I think it'd be interesting to see BioWare stop romances initiating. if only so the people who desperately want to keep bi men out of their games have to purse their lips and seethe because they can't think of any pseudo-valid reason to be angry. But then there are those who'd classify that as a win because they don't have to be grossed out by gay men.

People were still complaining about Steve Cortez, and he literally had three or four very obvious dialogue checks that you needed to pass before he could be romanced. Talking about his dead husband in a conversation early on was enough to make some angry.

The option should never be allowed for the PC to explicitly be racist (against other humans, since asari, krogans, etc don't exist IRL which nullifies your ME example) or homophobic as a story element.

Why the **** not? There's little I despise more than the notion that one shouldn't ever be able to make one's character do something that people might find offensive.

Okay, I'll bite.

The PC can play their character pretty much any way they want in DA.  Granted, while the specific dialogue may not scream "I'm a racist!" or "I'm a homophobe!" the pc has the option to never take certain party members with them or sometimes even kill them.  This is not true 100% of the time as some characters have quests related to the main story line, but you can still ignore them for the better part of the game.

However, if the pc has yet to fill their quota of douchiness, there is always the murder knife.

Who says he wasn't bi in Awakening?  You're not that certain special sort of person who believes that people are straight until they explicitly spell it out for you that they are otherwise?

So far every companion has been either bi or straight.Maybe gay,but not openly.Would you like to see sexual differences in your party, since we know that every LI is BI,why can't we have straight,bi and gay non-romancable companions.

As far as im concerned, if Bioware wants to put gay characters in their games, fine. It is something they already do. To me, the sexual orientation of the npc means squat. I dont want them telling me about it or hitting on me, just because they are a gay character. It has nothing to do with the story line.

No, thanks. Steve's "openness" was annoying enough. Almost as bad as James automatically hitting on my FemShep.

If you're not romancing him, what do you care what his sexual orientation is? So you could be politically correct around him? So you could go around saying "Oh look how tolerant I am; i hang out with a virtual gay person!".

You might not care, but as a gay guy, I would care quite a bit.
It's always nice to have positive representation in the media.
One does not need a *reason* to include gay characters. The fact that gays exist in real life is reason enough to have gay characters in games, tv shows, etc.

But not having a good reason means you're pandering to a political agenda!  Didn't you get the memo?!

Sh*t but I'm sick of people acting as if political correctness--which is just a demonized word for being decent and recognizing the plurality of human expression--is a bad thing.

LMAO.
Yeah, including gays is always seen as pandering to the "gay agenda."
'Gays want *special treatment.*'
No. We just want to be treated like everyone else.

Seems to be a tad too radical for certain types...especially the "I don't mind gays but..." crowd.  Though politically the winds of change seem to be kicking up a notch.

I think that's mostly me, I'm bored at work during a 3 hour meeting that I have to go to but doesn't apply to me, and I've responded to the threads made recently already, so I'm looking for old ones that are interesting to me but I haven't seen before.

Oh.

Well, anyway, I stand by everything I said before.

And if including more gay characters makes people complain, that's just gravy.

I don't care what they are. As long as they don't throw it in my face ( bad choice of words ) and force any dialog on the PC or get pissy when you tell them you are straight. I avoid those characters all together.

I don't want another Anders or some damn Cortez boo-hoo crap like in ME3. I don't want the NPC to constantly be reminding my character that they like sausage or tacos. I get it.

... and stop telling me my armor clashes with my weapon. And no... you can't brush my hair.

So would you hate it if a male character invited your character to go out cruising for chicks?
