You know, I think it would actually be awesome if Rhys turned up as an openly gay Companion in a similar role to Aveline's in DA2. Of all the characters Gaider's written thus far, Rhys is my favorite.

A non-romance gay companion would be seen as the ultimate tease and insult by the yaoi/yuri crowd.

I don't want any gay in my party. I don't like killing companions...

Im hoping this doesn't mean what I think it means.

I'd ignore that comment if I were you.  Tasteless as it is, it's almost certainly intended to get you riled up just for the lulz.

What you're talking about is that. What everyone else is talking about is don't do a crap job with it, or did people give a crap that Zeveran flirted with every male warden? No, because he's a promiscuous person by nature, that's not entailed in every character, regardless of alignment.

But, yeah homophobia, please tell me again how oppressed you are. I want to know all the imagined slights and prejudice people have against you because of your orientation, we'll just ignore fact that people can be irritating idiots trumpeting whatever social prejudice as their banner.

When in actual fact, the vast majority simply don't give a fuk, as long as it's done properly.

First, imagined slights?  Please.  If you don't think awful things are said and done to gay and bi people for no other reason than their sexuality then you live under a rock.

Second, I always got the impression that Anders was as promiscuous as the Circle allowed him to be.  Of course, I'm also one of the many people that assumed from the moment I met him in-game that he was bi or gay and trying too hard to pass.  But if Zev gets a pass for being a frisky elf then why doesn't Anders get a pass for being a frisky age?  Or is it because he dared to hit on you without seven explicit invitations, the way he does the Female Warden (to no purpose, the tease) in Awakening?

I love how all the people who keep bringing up how they're totally fine with gay people but just don't want it shoved in their face/reminded every 10 seconds are completely oblivious to the heteronormative reality we all live in.

Excellent! More spin form the liberal media!

Good job Ellen!

I don't have a porblem, because I don't give a rats patudy what gtes you in the mood. You are in my party and we have a job to do. Let's do that.

Why do you insist on not saying anything relevant...?

So would you hate it if a male character invited your character to go out cruising for chicks?

Not if you asked once and left it at that if my character said no.

The same for gay testimony. Make it know by commenting or asking once. If my character responds negetively, then accept that for what it is and move on with the task at hand.

I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about if you would care if a straight character talked about how he liked hot chicks. By inviting you to go with him to cruise for chicks, or commenting on hot ladies, or mentioning past relationships he's had.

It would be necessary to balance out what happened w/ Traynor.

I'm starting to think that Bioware should open a separate subforum specifically designed to discuss homosexuality, because it seems like half the posts on this site are arguments over it.

Or you could not do a crappy portrayal of that charcter, where the dialogue options are the equivalent of a crayon join the dots exercise. You know, where you actually have to make a specific moves to initiate things with a particular character over time, like Leliana in DAO.

Whether or not a character has a poor portrayal is independent of the sexual orientation of the character. Or at least, *should* be.

Bad character portrayal and depth leads to the "romance" points becoming more predominant ie occuring sooner within the initial set of conversations, because there less to cover before you hit those signposts. I think if you want to a "romance" (I hate using that word) then it should be deeper into the character's interactions. You could use Alistair instead of Leliana as an example, he could be gay, and it's conversations and actions still would be a better way to lead to the "romance". As a counter weight Zeveran, is promiscuous and flirtatios, and the "hey lets bonk" option comes earlier because he is that way irrespective of sexuality.

I saw the likes of Anders as"whaaa mages" now lets "bonk" I didn't particularly like the system of red vs blue, rivalry vs whatever, leading standing against everything Anders, Fenris etc. whoever, does and still get a "let's bonk" option is daft, it should be more involved with their values, ideologies held and morals. You don't have to cater to wish fullfilment of players who want to "romance" everything and expect the world and characters to bend to their perception you know.

Given that "I don't give a rat's "patudy" what gets you in the mood...we have a job to do let's do that instead," is NOT something I see ever said when straight characters reference their sexuality, but is something people like you ONLY EVER SAY when it's gay/bi characters involved, well...  I'd continue but I suspect my point is going to be completely overlooked.  You clearly DO care about people's orientation, if you give one group a pass but verbally object to the other.
