I've been running around with Virulent Walking Bomb, and that thing is a crowd-killer. I've seen the spell end an entire fight with a single explosion.

Mana Clash also works on Shades, Ash Wraiths, Desire Demons, Abominations, Arcane Horrors, spell casting Darkspawn Emisaries, Uldred, and Rage Demons. It can instantly wipe out a room full of Mages in the Circle Tower or Fade, and will soften up some of the toughest enemies in the game. It's fast casting, and can be cast around corners.

You don't need it; you can find other spells & spell combos you like more. However, it is very good for times when you're facing spell casting enemies.

Spell Might is best when you have mana regen gear, but when you do it adds significantly to your spellpower, which is very useful. It also opens up Storm of the Century and Improved Animate Dead. SotC does great DPS, and the IAD are pretty useful. Not a must have spell, but not bad.

The other two spells in the line are junk.

^^ Mana Clash is TOO good. It blasts mages out of the water. I took it once, but I will never take it again because it ruins all the fun. Besides Mana Clash, Cone of Cold and Blood Wound are too good as well.

With my mage playthrough I stopped casting those spells unless the party was getting in trouble. I remember having half the party get killed and then cast Blood Wound & spam Cone of Cold for an easy victory. It is like an "Easy Button" in DA.

Mana Clash: An impressive spell against Mages. Against everything else, it's about as painful as slapping them in the face with a wet noodle. And when you stop to think about it, Mages are actually pretty rare. Melee enemies far outnumber them. So while Mana Clash is useful against mages, from a statistical standpoint, it's very situational.

True... but towards the end of the game, the only think that gave me problems were mages. I had built Alistar into an awesome tank who can draw a crowd and hang in there. so melee enemies, for the most part, were not a problem. The only time I got into trouble were when there are some mages. They can turn the tide quickly and I need to take them out ASAP. With Mana Clash, it is not even a worry

I didn't think much of Mana Clash until I noticed how much damage it did against Desire Demons. Then I found it also did nice things against Greater Shades, Lesser Shades, Greater Rage Demons, etc. Pretty much anything that casts spells can be hurt by Mana Clash. It can make tough fights much easier.

I feel like the first two spells in the chain are wasted, but Spell Might & Mana Clash are darn useful. I always make sure at least one Mage has them.
