hi, i am currently playing a dps AW/BM/BM mage on dragon age origins awakening, and wanted to know if i really need a tank or if I can be the tank. i do not plan on respec and i have put all my point into magic, (except for the 16 base for coercion). i plan on using, if i don't need a tank, something like 3 mage + 1 rogue.
but if i need one then, i am kind of screwed, because i assume everybody will want to take the Spirit warrior spec, just for the sake of dealing a minimum damage with your tank. the problem is that, if i do, i fear my spellsword is going to be relegate to a supporting role, and i want him to be a dps. so, i was wondering if a party with enough dps (as of 3 mage + 1 rogue) can get enough dps to pass through nightmare without difficulty or if it is best to bring a tank along
and if i need one, if anybody feel him/herself, like, full of kindnes, enough to give me a tank build, it will make my day in fact, i need a tank build, i just don't know about one that isn't oriented toward spirit warrior (for the + resist that it grant).
p-s : if need a tank, i will probably used oghren, for the +10% magic resist from being a dwarf, but after that ?
is a tank nescessary for a spellsword mage

Nope, arcane warriors are the most durable build in the game. However you might have some issues drawing threat

aw/bm is so overpowered man...you can solo nm and let mobs horde around you and wont be in danger if you have the return to ostagar dlc...use cailins armor(entire set) marics blade and cailins shield along with life giver ring, andruills blessing belt, and amulet of house jace(if you have it) or lifedrinker amulet, the 2nd ring is your option(i use blood ring)..every point into magic...and threat is no problem..just pop off 1 blood wound and a fireball or something and your threat will be so high...no other character will come close to being at risk unless your absurdly out numbered
as far as stats i dont have the exact but with miasma on i was doing between 70 and 100 damage per swing and had armor of 68 and def over 100

You're playing awakening? You can solo almost everything with a BM/AW/? build. If you need additional sturdiness, use Sigrun for pocket tank, Velana for CC and Anders for heals or Nathaniel for ranged damage. Justice makes an excellent primary tank straight out of the box.
