Why would anyone let Garrus win the shooting contest?

There was no reason why Shepard would win it for me.

I usually play a mid-close range character, even the bonus weapon I choose is not a Sniper Rifle yet Garrus has always used a Sniper Rifle (apparently even as a child).

Like Garrus said when you shoot the bottle, just up the challenge!
They never do but Garrus probably knows he would win anyway, he's better at calibrating "big" guns than Legion and I'm pretty sure Legion is pretty good.
I love it how Legion is shocked by getting outcalibrated by Garrus! One of my favrite crew interactions. It's also a good experience for Legion to bring back to the Geth imo. Legion and the geth needed an experience where they notice that even if they think they are damn good at everything they won't always be the best or superior to an organic.

Garrus is awesome and thus doesn't need this to continue being awesome.MassEffectFShep wrote...
Because Garrus is AWESOME. You want to keep his confidence up, let him think he can keep teasing your shooting skills. Keeps him motivated. I do it every time and the one time I didn't do it I felt like a horrible person.

After his home planet is in flames? The safety of his own family in question? His comrades in arms dieing by the millions every passing day? The very possible extinction of the galaxy? Nah he was pretty shook up by it all.Sauruz wrote...

A win, no matter how seemingly insignificant, can brighten spirits in dark times like that.

Playing as Shepard I never felt like one of the gang, You're always over-analyzing every situation for the best possible outcome that'll shape who your "friends" will become.
Shepard is not a friend, he/she's an overprotective parent with a mad scientist God complex, playing sims.
Even when I'm out having a drink with Garrus during the citadel dlc I unconsciously try to hook him up with some lady friend so he'll have someone to be with once I'm gone.
Or trying to prevent half the squad from tearing each other apart like some kindergarten teacher.
So **** you and your feelings Garrus! I'm done being your Mom. Shepard is going to take this shot for Shepard.

Case in point. I once watched the husband of a friend of mine playing a board game with their seven year old daughter. It was a simple game, something about penguins and ice flows, designed with kids in mind. Watching, it quickly became apparent that he was playing for keeps, employing tactics that the little girl couldn't hope to match. I just looked at him and said "Dude..." and shook my head sadly.
It's not that he's a bad person. He's just used to getting his way and winning. A character flaw, if you will, that even transcended his desire to make his daughter happy. He tried to justify it to me later with very similar arguments to some of those I see here regarding Garrus.
So, to those of you who didn't let Garrus win, all I can do is
to say "Dude....." and shake my head sadly.

But then the questions is would Garrus wan't a friend that treats him like a seven year old.
