Why would anyone let Garrus win the shooting contest?

I went up to the rooftop with Garrus to have a good time. Not to compete with him.

Funny, according to the Garrus' women upthread he needs a pity win to be functional.nrobbiec wrote...
No. Garrus would hate being given a pity win.
Edit: I agree it does make sense to have him win against a non-infiltrator, though.

I don't know about you guys, but when I think of the right way to treat a friend, patronizing behavior and dishonesty are nowhere near the top of MY list.
Now, I'm not saying saying that letting Garrus win makes you bad person...
Actually, wait, that IS what I am saying.
Edit: If you missed because you were actually roll playing and your Shepard simply wasn't as good as Garrus, that makes sense.
Clearly you aren't married.

So in a relationship lying to a person close to you is above being honest, because they are too weak to handle it otherwise?

Sometimes it is a good thing to not be completely honest with a friend. I think this is one of those times that it is better to not be the center of a attention or the best at something. Seeing how missing that shot makes Garrus happy I think it is totally worth the lie. Besides he isn't stupid and even though he doesn't say anything he probably already knows it was missed on purpose.
If he knew about it being deliberate, then why is he so happy about it? What then, would be the point of missing deliberately?

If i play as a soldier i flip a coin.
The rest of the classes Garrus wins.
I think it makes most sense that way.

Thats luck has nothing to do with sensible choices lol. But is better than stroking garru's ego. I like it

Thats is very true. SOMETIMESS.
example is when you and garrus are discussin how much "fight we got in ourselves"
Shepard is down, and says "how much fightign before the fight is kicked out of you"
Garrus answers:
"Thats when I pick you up dust you off, and tell you you are the best damn soldier I've ever met"
When you stroke someone's ego is when they are down and depressed, or maybe the opposite, with military pep talk. Works with strangers though.
In that competition nobody was depressed, they were competiting there is no need to either one treat each other like children who cant loose.

I detested that you had to "fake" miss the shot. My Shepard shouldn't be an infallible Mary Sue, thank you very much, so when she missed she missed because it was windy up there. She didn't fake anything with him.
Agreed.
My Shepard may -sometimes- be good with a sniper rifle, but I know for a fact that Garrus can dance circles around her. So, a "sniping-goddess-mary-sue", my Shepard is not (especially when I'm playing ha ha).

How about my suggestion that you actually have to make the shot yourself, and get the time slowdown thing if you're an Infiltrator or sniper-using Soldier?TNT1991 wrote...

Also, I liked the Garrus giddy at winning rather than grumbling at losing.

But what if my Shepard was an assualt rifle/shotgun only Soldier who gets distracted very easily?
Now that I think about it, maybe Garrus knew my Shepard would lose to him because of those reasons, that's why he chose a sniper rifle challenge...
That dang, dirty cheating Turian...

I pick to miss because the Shadow Broker dossier on him said he was stuck under my shadow. I didn't want that for him or anyone so I missed and hoped that it would be a start for him to get out of my shadow. I want him be Garrus Vakarian and not another Shepard wannabe.
Also, I liked the Garrus giddy at winning rather than grumbling at losing.
Ok I knew there was a reason I just couldn't remember until seeing this post. Thanks Silent

Ahh modesty, where have you gone?
There is a reason the choice to miss the shot is a Paragon trigger. If you don't view your Shep as a Paragon then you don't take the trigger.
The guy just went through hell and you want to make it about you. You are actually being completely selfish. If that is how you are playing your Shep then that is fine for you, not I though. I have a hard time being a jerk to people I care about in their time of need.
Garrus needed to feel better about himself. Helping him do so by missing the shot is the right thing to do, thus why it is a paragon trigger.
Take what Jack tells you if you ask her if she has told her students that she doesn't feel they are ready for war. "No, they need me to believe in them. I did pick up a few things listening to your damn speeches."
The stats actually make me feel some hope for humanity since 64.5% have gone the Paragon route, while the rest went the jerky route.
What do you mean Garrus needed to feel better about himself? He was doing fine. He's fine afterwards. Playing a game is not at all selfish. Garrus doesn't need you to let him win. He knows he's an excellent shot.

But not with my infiltrator, soldier and vanguard. Yes my vanguard is very much snipy.
And I dont let guy win just because I´m sleeping with him. This is pure skill, Garrus.
