DAIII marketing should use the female default for its marketing instead of the male lead....they need to switch thing up in the marketing....

Have the female be the face of the game, have the female be on the cover, have the female be in the big CGI trailer....its time. I am sick and tired of all those white male leads recycled in video game marketing all the time.

And it fits the Inquistor because the Chantry uses women in prominent roles.

It would be neat, though unlikely.

I'm sure they would take your suggestion if they wanted to hurt their sales.

This. I was pretty disappointed at how long it took for FemHawke to show up. I assume that there will be several trailers for the game, so why not make at least one of them the female Inquisitor?

I would love for the female protagonist to be on the cover. Such a small percentage of females appear on game covers, mostly small in the visual hierarchy and in the background. It would a fresh and welcomed change to be front and center, plus its a long time coming too.

Dont worry Bioware have already stated they will use both a male and female protagonist for DA3 marketing

Would it actually hurt sales? I think the kind of person who would play a BioWare game isn't the same kind of dudebro that wont consider playing a female character, having a woman on their team, etc...I think it could hook more female gamers which the games themselves actually really appeal to.

How would having a female lead affect sales? They've never really tried this before, so it would be new...

Wouldn't a really attractive woman with swords on the cover attract more sales?

It's not something that's been tried too much and publishers don't want to take the risk. Even Ken Levine said that putting a female on the Bioshock Inifnite box would hurt their sales.

As long as she's geared in heavy armor, has some agency and looks dangerous a hell, I'm happy.

It's not risk taking to consider women as people, as an audience. Just because one person says that, doesn't make it true. They have no ground for that argument. Opening up sales to women would most certainly increase sales.

Plus, if they percieve it as a risk, than take that risk! No one ever got anywhere or succeeded without taking risks. Look at all the great thinkers, inventors and artists in history... they were all risk takers.

I don't see what would be so bad in making it plain you can customise your character. How can it hurt sales by making customers aware they can also play as a female.
I remember way back when ME was being developed, I had to find and read the faq with a magnifying glass so that I saw information you could also play a female. For a long time I was convinced Sheploo was all you got to play.

Ok, so trailers use one PC char as a face for the game, I can understand that. But often videos with developer interviews and showing gameplay also only use the same character. You could show a female PC in those and the developer could say "you can also play as a female". That wouldn't "confuse" anyone.

That's all well and good, and I even agree, but the only thing that matters is what the publishers think. They believe they would lose potential sales by putting a woman character on the front of the box.

in my own opinion and if i had never tried or heard of Dragon Age before, using a woman PC in the trailer would probably attract me more to the game than the typical stereotypical male of which after 25 years of gaming i am considerably bored to tears with, having said that i still think there best bet is to go with both if there "resources" can spread that far (god im really sick of that word aswell)

Of course, thats why ME3 had a revisable cover featuring a female and male protagonist B)

Both parties win so its not really an issue I don't think

I don't think a female with cleavage being an advertized character for a game would hurt sales...at all.

It will create (and has created) more meaningless articles by morally uptight journalists who want to seem like shining knights however.

Yeah that was a nice thing to do for the fans, but they still have male shep on the cover initially.

Personally, I wouldn't have either of them on the cover. Emphasise the character's customisability and so forth.

If they do, I'd prefer the female over the male, and both at once over each of them. Both for similar reasons to having neither of them, and female over male because it makes the game slightly more distinctive.

If the cover gets too crowded with both, I'd put the female on the front, and the male on the back.

In all honesty, though, I don't mind too much if the male gets on the cover again. Who knows? I might even play as him.

Exactly, the fans can choose their cover and respect Bioware for making the decision to offer a choice. From a business sense Bioware can still have the game cover they think is best as well.

I get the feeling this is another one of those arguements for the sake of it threads
