I have been opposed to the production of a live action adaptation of Mass Effect 1 ever since it's announcment. I was hoping it would fall through, however since Casey Hudson refferenced it at PAX East, it looks like it's actually going to happen. I love Mass Effect, I love the games, the comics, the books, the figures, the anime, the merchandise, it's awesome; but as pathetic as it may sound, will anybody else pretend the Mass Effect movie doesn't exist once it's launched?
Will anybody else try to pretend the movie doesn't exist?

I don't see why. The movie, while covering the same storyline, falls outside the game canon. It will not harm the games in any way just like those awful comic books didn't. There's a possibility I won't like the movie, but I don't like the Super Mario movie either, and I still love those games.

It's completely separate, it shouldn't impact your views on the game series at all. It only really matters when it's part of the canon e.g. everyone has to ignore Mass Effect: Retribution, and most choose to forget that the ending ever happened.
There's the strong possibility that it will be like nearly every game adaptation out there - terrible. But I might check it out, depending on the effort that goes into its production.

People saying that, "it will mess Mass Effect up" and "set a true cannon" are ridiculous.
Its obvious that if they do the first game, they will go with Male-soldier-paragon-Liara LI.
That's not my cannon, but I'm fine with it. I'll just view it as an "alternate playthrough."

Eh, like everyone else is pointing out, it's not looking to redefine any of the game canon. It's just a separate exploration of Mass Effect told via a more linear storytelling method.
I'll be glad to give the movie a shot, but the games will always be the true Mass Effect to me.

Why would I ignore it? I may or may not like it, and as previously pointed out, it, like many other game adaptations, may suck. However, I see no reason to pretend it doesn't exist. If you feel like it can't add anything to your ME experience, by all means, feel free to ignore it. I see no reason to fish for moral support though, which is what this thread screams to me: I'm going to ignore this movie, who's with me?" is the theme here, and frankly, based on responses so far, you're alone. If you can't find it in your heart to ignore it that way, then maybe it's just looking for another reason to bash on the series?

I just hope its better than every other adaptation out there. I hated Forward unto Dawn

I may get flack for this but I have no problems with the film being done as long as it is like the Resident Evil movies and very loosely based on the story of Mass Effect and preferably without Shepard. A completely original story set in the Mass Effect universe would be even better though.

I'm not interested in the movie so I simply won't be watching it. No need to pretend it doesn't exist. I already played ME1 several times, I do not need to see it in a movie. Not only that but I highly doubt the actors (no matter how skilled they may be) will do the original characters any justice, meaning there's nothing remotely interesting for me to look out for. I'll pass on it and ignore it.

Since game adaptions to movies often fail, Fail effect the motion picture is not for me, I know who my shepard is and shes a female who romances Kaidan, just seeing a male shepard romancing Liara or Ashley, just bugs me, it's like there saying yeah this is shepard deal with it, we wont even keep the games choices.

I just want them to make a really good film.
None of this gloss over it--hand waving crap that let Deception get out.
I want them to do an excellent job. To Represent. This could be huge for them, if done well.
I hope they don't turn into a Spaz and put out sum goofy nonsense.
Get sum quality scriptwriters. Quality director. With Heart. Don't go all Cheap-o and put something out just to have it out there.
Although with J.J.Abrams and the Star Trek movies...they kinda undercut a ME movie. The camaraderie of that first Star Trek by Abrams is also a huge theme w/ME. And sci-fi. So they are gonna have to distunguish themselves at this point in time.
I want them to make the movie. But I want them to make sure the Hollywood ppl understand that what makes the Story interesting is far beyond the Pew.Pew. Cuz I'm afraid that Hollywood would only see the pew pew in it.

It needs to be good.
Unlike TV and Film, games don't have longevity. The first Mass Effect game is nearly six years old and, to me, is beginning to feel dated. Star Wars, is well over forty years old and is still used as a comparison for modern sci-fi.
If it isn't good, Mass Effect will just be a classic video game which will be forgotten.

I'll avoid it like the plague. No interest in seeing Hollywood's take on Shep, I'll stick to my own.

It hasn't even gotten into production yet, which isn't strange because this counts for most game-adaptions nowadays. It might not ever see the light day, like the BioShock film.

I would likely watch it, since i'm a big fan of the ME universe.
Until i have actually seen it i won't judge it.
And yes OP you're pathetic to start a thread about you being self entitled and butthurt,
3/10 because you made me reply.

1. Casey mentioned it!? What did he say?
2. WHY would you people outright ignore the movie? It's a franchise you love and for the most part it's untarnished. The main medium has delivered the best content. You can't possibly be that petty, if anything pirate it, you dont have to pay for it...
3. It does TBH have the potential to be awful. It's been in development hell for 4 years and the studio got a fan to do a complete rewrite of the script that hollywood writers actually had. The studio rejected theirs. Probably too much bloo secks

If it's good then I'll happily watch it, but if it turns out to be terrible like quite a lot of movies based on video games are then I'd just ignore it.

I won't ignore it, but I'm afraid it will be horrible, like most of the game adaptations usually are.
Also, how come everyone here says Shepard will be in the movie? Has it been confirmed?

give it a chance but i feel that commerically it might not do well i mean i feel it's a niche audience that might see the film. i.e. us that might see it talks about mass effect on some what of a regular basis.

if they do it right they can get the same audience that always goes to see a good space flick. amop the action and horror in commercials and then surprise us with the great story I look forward to seeing a movie Shepard even if she is a man.
