Will anybody else try to pretend the movie doesn't exist?

Legendary has a pretty good track record in my opinion, so I think the Mass Effect movie could easily be in worse hands. For better or for worse, it appears that Bioware is deeply involved. If this turns into a franchise, I'm wondering how they would handle the second and third movies...
Honestly, I'm excited that the person who is writing the script, Morgan Davis Foehl, is a big Mass Effect fan. I know some people would prefer a more established screenwriter, but I think it's better to have someone who is passionate and emotionally involved with the source material. Just my take, but I'm optimistic about that aspect of the movie production.
This movie is years and years away from actually happening, though. We don't have any casting news, any production news, hardly any development news, and no news of who's directing. A number of things could go wrong that could derail this thing, so I don't think there's much point in getting worked up over this right now.

I shall enter with no expectations.
Just mere curiosity as to what film is concocted.
Na just kidding:P. I'm expecting a Uwe Boll film. Perhaps if I expect the worst, I might enjoy the film more...

Most video game to movies adaptions do end up sucking. The 3 ME games are far to ambitious to turn into films, it will never, ever work. It would be alot easier to make a movie based in the ME universe with new characters and a new plot all together but these type of films can also be a bit or miss as well, look at the Resident Evil movies, financially they have done well enough to warrant many, many sequels but they are very bad, borderline awful.

Truth be told I'm not really sure what to make of the ME movie. I thought it was a good idea back when it was first announced before ME3 came out, after ME3 however I'm a very weary of the idea.

I tend to agree IF the model is a trilogy. There is NO WAY to get the game trilogy to fit into a movie trilogy. ME1 can work as a single movie because it is fairly tight. ME2 is close but it would require a lot of trimming. ME3 is worst off of them all. Curing the genophage OR retaking Rannoch are themselves a movie in their own right. No WAY to make those two things fit into a 2 hour movie. Too much happening in too short a time. The ONLY way you could do it is to toss out the idea that the movies MUST be a trilogy and instead aim at just telling a full story - and expect that it will take 4 or 5 movies to do any justice to the story provided in the games. The audience would also need to be adults and NOT children (ala Star Wars with its goddamned Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks and other childish crap). The look and feel would need to be serious and adult, like "Bladerunner" or "Alien". No pandering to the toddler crowd. No silly Schwarzenegger or "The Rock" one-liners.
I don't actually think the movie will ever see the light of day.

all the game based movies that suck (resident evil, silent hill, hitman, etc.) are all usually a product of some director or movie producer that knows very little about the game's plot and is merely looking to cash in on the francise. most of the movies that are allegedly based on the game are more cash-ins, not true adaptations.

I still would rather see a full realistic CGI movie... kinda like FF Advent Children or FF Spirits of Within... maby those are old examples but I want to see visual effects similiar to that and today they have more powerful rendering tools. However, if the next Mass Effect Game drops on next gen consoles and powerful PC's it would look so good there would be almost no point to CGI.
So if it is live action, they better be aiming for Star Wars quality with this one!!!. I agree with the poster above; movies based on video games usually fail.

I've done most of the possible decisions--most, not all--at least once.
But like most video game adaptations it will probably be a film that a lot of people don't like
But as Joker would say:
"That's just my opinion"
EDIT:
If I had my choice, and I've said this before, I would take the default Shepard background (Male Earthborn War hero, or was it sole survivor? Forget which...I might even go away from the default make it Earthborn Renegade.) and portray his early years on Earth, his time with the Tenth Street Reds, his decision to enlist, and up to the moment where he boards the SSV Normandy SR-1, for the first time, making it a direct prequel to Mass Effect 1. If they insist on going with the story of ME1, though, I'll be curious to see if they even include the Mako and which (if any) of the UNC missions they include.
