I see no reason to pretend it doesn't exist. I will ignore it if it sucks because I'm not interested in watching poor film adaptation of one of my favorite game series. However, I would still acknowledge that the film exists - just like that Mass Effect: Deception novel that I don't want to read exists. :P

I'll wait to pretend the movie doesn't exist until it actually comes out. Mass Effect has the potential to be a killer movie franchise. However, as a video game to movie adaptation, it also has the potential to be absolutely horrendous like nearly every other video game adaptation. Like a ton of people have already said, I don't mind them having a male Shepard who romances Liara who makes certain choices throughout the game, etc. because I'd just consider it a playthrough that's different than mine.

Legendary has a pretty good track record in my opinion, so I think the Mass Effect movie could easily be in worse hands. For better or for worse, it appears that Bioware is deeply involved. If this turns into a franchise, I'm wondering how they would handle the second and third movies...

Honestly, I'm excited that the person who is writing the script, Morgan Davis Foehl, is a big Mass Effect fan. I know some people would prefer a more established screenwriter, but I think it's better to have someone who is passionate and emotionally involved with the source material. Just my take, but I'm optimistic about that aspect of the movie production.

This movie is years and years away from actually happening, though. We don't have any casting news, any production news, hardly any development news, and no news of who's directing. A number of things could go wrong that could derail this thing, so I don't think there's much point in getting worked up over this right now.

I shall enter with no expectations.
Just mere curiosity as to what film is concocted.

Na just kidding:P. I'm expecting a Uwe Boll film. Perhaps if I expect the worst, I might enjoy the film more...

I have not read anything about the movie. Is it live-action or animated?

All I ask is that if they have make Shepard a man for the love of all that is holy (and I say this as a caucasian woman) please make him some ethnicity other than caucasian. African American, Native American, Indian, Asian, Latino, etc. Something!

That said I would prefer FemShep (read: Ellen Ripley).

I'm sure I will be. I have a rather pessimistic view of this movie.

Naw.  Male Shep, Timothy Olyphant (Justified and others).  He IS Shepard.

Romances Ash, THE perfect woman.

Well, the real world model for Miranda is perfect but not the character.  Sorry.

Ashley, minus the religion, is the archetype of the perfect woman.  Just stone cold objective fact my friend :P

Truth be told I'm not really sure what to make of the ME movie. I thought it was a good idea back when it was first announced before ME3 came out, after ME3 however I'm a very weary of the idea.

Most video game to movies adaptions do end up sucking. The 3 ME games are far to ambitious to turn into films, it will never, ever work. It would be alot easier to make a movie based in the ME universe with new characters and a new plot all together but these type of films can also be a bit or miss as well, look at the Resident Evil movies, financially they have done well enough to warrant many, many sequels but they are very bad, borderline awful.

I tend to agree IF the model is a trilogy.  There is NO WAY to get the game trilogy to fit into a movie trilogy.  ME1 can work as a single movie because it is fairly tight.  ME2 is close but it would require a lot of trimming.  ME3 is worst off of them all.  Curing the genophage OR retaking Rannoch are themselves a movie in their own right.  No WAY to make those two things fit into a 2 hour movie.  Too much happening in too short a time.  The ONLY way you could do it is to toss out the idea that the movies MUST be a trilogy and instead aim at just telling a full story - and expect that it will take 4 or 5 movies to do any justice to the story provided in the games.  The audience would also need to be adults and NOT children (ala Star Wars with its goddamned Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks and other childish crap).  The look and feel would need to be serious and adult, like "Bladerunner" or "Alien".  No pandering to the toddler crowd.  No silly Schwarzenegger or "The Rock" one-liners.

I don't actually think the movie will ever see the light of day.

If the movie does indeed tell the story of ME1, I'm just gonna treat it as if I'm watching another person's playthrough. I'm really looking forward to it, actually.

My main concern is whether or not they'll use it to set a canon interpretation of ME1. Because, they really shouldn't - if they do movies, they should be kept seperate from the game canon.

I'm unsure whether this is still the case, but I heard a while back that it was being made by legendary studios and the producers of mass effect are working very closely with them. that sounds like a good adaptation is in the works.

all the game based movies that suck (resident evil, silent hill, hitman, etc.) are all usually a product of some director or movie producer that knows very little about the game's plot and is merely looking to cash in on the francise. most of the movies that are allegedly based on the game are more cash-ins, not true adaptations.

Dont really see a point to a movie.... a live action one seems silly. I dont want to see real people and CGI aliens unless they can make the aliens look realistic, District 9 was able to do this without looking silly.

I still would rather see a full realistic CGI movie... kinda like FF Advent Children or FF Spirits of Within... maby those are old examples but I want to see visual effects similiar to that and today they have more powerful rendering tools. However, if the next Mass Effect Game drops on next gen consoles and powerful PC's it would look so good there would be almost no point to CGI.

So if it is live action, they better be aiming for Star Wars quality with this one!!!. I agree with the poster above; movies based on video games usually fail.

To me it honestly depends a lot on the actors they get for the roles. If they try to cast, say, Mark Wahlberg (some may know him as "Marky Mark") as Cmdr Shepard -- no doubt will I not watch it. But if they find actors that "fit" the roles they're portraying, I'll watch it and consider it simply an alternate playthrogh that I don't control. Although there is a fair chance that the "decisions" they choose for the movie will be ones I've made in my personal playthroughs.

I've done most of the possible decisions--most, not all--at least once.

But like most video game adaptations it will probably be a film that a lot of people don't like

But as Joker would say:

"That's just my opinion"

EDIT:
If I had my choice, and I've said this before, I would take the default Shepard background (Male Earthborn War hero, or was it sole survivor? Forget which...I might even go away from the default make it Earthborn Renegade.) and portray his early years on Earth, his time with the Tenth Street Reds, his decision to enlist, and  up to the moment where he boards the SSV Normandy SR-1, for the first time, making it a direct prequel to Mass Effect 1. If they insist on going with the story of ME1, though, I'll be curious to see if they even include the Mako and which (if any) of the UNC missions they include.
