So through out my entire Mass Effect career, I have only saved Kaiden once, and never gotten farther than mass effect 1 with that. Is it worth going back to the first game and playing through the series with him instead of Ashley? I'm just so used to Ashley that I feel like its weird that she isn't there

I think he's a little bit better in ME3. And his powers aren't bugged, so that's a plus.

I can't leave Ashley behind. She's one of my favorites and sacrificing her on Virmire just leaves me feeling wrong.

It just depends on your preference really or LI. I've never let Ashley off Virmire and don't plan to. I don't feel like I'm missing out, as you probably don't either, but if you want to explore the variables go for it.

I haven't even played a mission with him in years, and even then it was the Eden prime mission or one of those early missions.

He's obviously very different to use in ME3 as compared to ME1, but his powers are more useful as far as squadmates go. I personally really dislike what they did to Ashley in ME3, and really liked her in the first game. I kind of feel like it's better for her to die with honour on Virmire than become... whatever that **** is in ME3.

Kaidan seems like much more part of the team than Ash does in ME3 to be honest. He talks with Liara over the comm, plays poker with James, talks about teaching Joker how to play poker, goes down to engineering to talk to Adams. Where as Ash just hangs out in the observation room and only talks with Shepard. We know she gets drunk with James, but we only see the aftermath, not them actually hanging out. I don't know if Citadel DLC fixed any of that (haven't played my Ashley alive playthrough yet).

Good point, maybe on my last insanity run I save him and continue into the next game

Just finished a play through with Ash romanced, changes nothing. She's brutal. She actually doesn't even have anything to say to you when she first gets on the ship. Takes a few missions...so bad hah.

not this again..

Kaidan FTW!

I save Ash on 10% of my playthroughs. I love her in ME1 and her romance too, but I just can't stand what she turns into in ME3.

In my case, I never let Kaidan to die on Virmire and will never do it, that depends on your preferences just like @nrobbiec says. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Ashley , but If I have to choose.... Kaidan all the way.
A question, what's wrong with Ashley in ME3? she isn't very popular for all the negative comments I've seen <_<.

Not sure OP,

It's a bit of a none issue for me, I don't really like either. Its more of a "who can I bare being stuck with for the next two games" question. Having said that, I should probably just man the **** up complete a play through with Kaidan so I at least have a basis for comparison...however much it pains me to do so.

Then again, it's just as annoying having Ashley around so I guess I don't have much to loose....or gain.

Doesn't saving Kaidan make more sense if you're a soldier?

Almost all of my playthroughs I have Ashley. She is a mini-tank and when given the Black Widow will kill anything in her way.

Alenko I don't mind. I recently did a trilogy run with him . In ME3 he is very durable and his reave power is great.

Ashley is a woman, ergo you save her. She also looks better.

Since   people  seem to want to  keep  copying topics... i am  just going to copy my response .....

Short answer:

I believe Ashley is much  better   as  a character   and  in a pure skill form. I also belive she is much better since she got rid of that armor lether hair down and re did her make up.

Long Answer

There was a game( I don't remeber what game, I'm going to check it out later), it's old, but you play as a bounty hunter who wants to defend the galaxy from Space Monsters, and has awesome powers and uses a helmet.

In the end game, the character takes the armor off and then the reveal: the Character is FEMALE!
Hell, it was epic, her powers were unique and all, that was extremely well done to show that women can also be on Video games/ Play Video games... Too bad SOME people don't agree with this.

Its Samus... and shame on you for not remember her name. ALso she is one of the mostpopular female characters in video game history. The game you are referring to is called Metroid came for the Nintendo. Many series since. She is hot and in charge, and is because she doesn't rely on lady parts to do the talking... motly her boot down an alien's throat.

The reason I respect her the mos tis because she actually has some damn armor while she is kicking ass.
And as I mentioned before she is THE only female I will ever played. Because she is hotter while in her armor than outside of it.
Anyways she is still popular despite recent crappy writting on Metroid Other M.

And this is her...

Perfect  example  of an earlier discussion.. .. given  the choice  its unquatifiable  how much I  would   choose  Ashleys  or Miranda's outfits   over this ...

this  is  a perfect example of  armor  i dont want to see

the stats that mean the most to me (i Believe this comes when they collect data  directly  each person game  whenever they play  or complete it  )   edit (  actually I wish it was more  impractical. mabey simmilar to Miranda's outfit.  )

<3Ashley <3 beats  Kaiden in both popularity  and   survivability  - Victory by clear   landslide majority.

Despite how much ash bashing that goes on here  and  various  forum posts and bsn  polls this is a world wide stat that comes  from  people actions  not  opinions

The fact that liara won doesn't surprise me since   she is  bio's favorite and is forced  on  you and  basically has more screen time than anyone else  though the entire series

Paragon  beats  Renegade  -- finally a situation where the nice guy doesn't finish last

37.6 doesn't say much for mp  -- i only got it  the achivement  because  i wanted it and playing mp was the only way to do it at the time

soo how much  more of that  stat was "forced" like me. ?

It is amusing to watch supporters one way or the other spin the information provided as a support of their way of thinking though.

true . but  actually seeing  a world wide  poll  data collected independantly of actions  from  individuals games the fact
        Paragon beat Renegade

<3Ashley  beat  kaiden   ...Twice .... was satisying.. of course Kaiden supporter  will try to poke holes into it.

And  just for the record .....

I like   Ashley's  "skill set"  better than  his I am a biotic so i don't need another one to start  as well.. I would  rather have a  sniper/ rifle. The.Alliance Officer class is just plain better Disruptor Ammo (squad share) inferno grenades.. etc ..  but that  comes down to personal  taste as well.

Your right though op I not happy with Liara's win  in popularity   I could probably punch holes in that if i tried and could start by saying she had a unfair advantage being bio's favorite form the start ...

I just like Kaidan more. As someone else points out,the fact that he moves around the ship and Ash hides in her room probably doesn't help her case any. If she were better implemented the choice would likely be harder than it is. If I were a big Ash fan, I'd likely be irritated at how much better Kaidan is integrated into the ship scenes than she is. It's shameful.

Doesn't help any that Ash bugs(bugged?) out Ken and Gabby so their conversations don't happen.

So you finished ME1 with Kaidan alive? Why just not continue that? Do ME2 and ME3 with him alive, I think it's worth doing 1 playthrough with different Virmire Survivor since they're actually quite different in ME3, even if have the same general plot. Plus they're completly different squadmates in combat, Kaidan is much recommended for almost any class-Shep but especially for Vanguard and Adepts. And he almost never dies, you take him & Vega/Wrex/EDI and you never have to worry about babysitting your squadmates as long as you make sure their barriers/shields are turned on.

I always liked Kaidan more, so consequently I've saved him most of the time. I even think about editing some saves so Ashley is alive more often xD

Yeah, definitely worth a shot. I'd redo it because it was a horrible playthrough because it was my first. I missed every side mission I think, and didn't get any of the character missions
