I don't understand where all the damn hate and stereotyping comes from.

Is it because there are a few stupid who play the game? I don't see why that should be an issue considering there are stupid, bad behaved, ill mannered, and immature players in every video game fanbase, no matter how "mature" or "intellegant" the game is.

Is it becasue it's the biggest name? Okay, I can understand that. The largest target get's hit the most, but I still don't see why that should be any excuse to go after the fans of call of duty as well, all of them and not just the douches on multiplayer.

Is it becasue people look down on shooters so much? This just makes me scratch my head, and screams genre elitism like a banshee. Not every gamer is the same, and no gamer in any genre can be classifed under the same broad brush of being borderline retards who are adicted to energy drinks and doritos and who can only communicate through swearing.

Just try to explain to me, someone who enjoys the shooter genre and who likes call of duty games, why posters have so much hate for the game and for it's fans.

People have different reasons why they detest it and it's fans. I only play Call of Derpy for the story. No MP. Battlefield is better for MP in my opinion.

No shooter ever in existence will be superior than Perfect Dark to me.

Anything that's very mainstream always get a lot of hate and snobbing. Just deal with it.

Edit  . .Want to add something..

When soemthing's very popular and mainstream it can feel somewhat forced down your throats. Since everywhere you go people talk about it. So each time someone think of a video game .. They think Call of Duty.

Your resentment start building and when you're young and have difficuty expressing what you're feeling .. You use insult. So you end up with people that think like you do and more and more people join .. When the bangwaggon is created the train won't stop ever.

i enjoy some call of duty myself. WoW get the same treatment.. It's just how thing rolls baby.

Edit

Your call of duty seem to be your Doritos. Are you even aware of this ? LOL

I don't know, it's not really my thing, but I think that CoD games are okay in their own respect. I get the feeling that a lot of people don't like the series because they feel that it has become too popular and they don't know it but they actually hate their own favorite games because of their inept attempts to pander to CoD's fanbase. Sort of like people who hate Apple because of the abomination that Microsoft turned Windows 8 into by trying to emulate iOS.

For any faults that CoD may have, it isn't nearly as bad as all the sequels to games that were nothing like CoD to begin with that tried to copy it.

It's because alot of developers have done certain stuff to their games to accommodate the desires of gamers who have not touched their game before; just because of COD sales.

Killzone 3
Crysis 2
Battlefield 3 ( minor case )
Uncharted 3
MOH

And many others have all " dumbed down " on added certain aspects of what made their game special in the first place just to reach out to the COD base. But in doing this they alienate the fan base. I can understand this since I was PISSED at what Guerilla games did to killzone 3.

However, Activision or the game COD itself shouldn't receive hate just because they make alot of money and sell millions of copies every year. it's not their fault developers mimic some of their formula and fail.

For the record, I've only played COD 4. Just a teeny bit. I'm a battlefield guy and Killzone 2 I say is the best multiplayer this generation. Other factors such as Activisions " rep ", memes, and the kids online that play are completey separate factors that shouldn't be considered when it comes to the game itself

Because it's disgustingly popular for no valid reason and it is stagnating the gaming industry because of it's re-used mechanics.

CoD's general fans and the dumbing down of the action genre to "be like CoD" are what irks me the most. CoD has used the exact same engine, combat, and system as CoD 3 with very few changes. The MP can be fun at times, but there's such an abundance of cheaters it's unbelievable (I played about 10 rounds of MW3 when Steam had a free weekend: 7/10 times, I had matches where guys who did indeed say they were cheating got scores of 100+ kills and 0-5 deaths). The stories in each game are incredibly generic "AMERICA, **** YEAH!" stuff with no real differences in premise or plot progression.

Battlefield is more of my thing.

Only reason I dislike it is because it promotes the "Safety" aspect in game development.  Many feel there is no point in taking risks in new IP's when an established one that is released on a yearly basis shows that people will just play the same thing over and over.

It's become a victim of it's own success than, I guess? Now everyone in the industry tries to copy cat it and the product becomes weaker becasue they loose their original feel.

I can understand that, though I feel that's more the industries fault than it is COD's fault. Unless there's some stated agenda activision has to make all games like call of duty.

It's the consumers fault. They're the ones that keep shelling out ridiculous amounts of dough on that ****, year after year. The industry is just giving the ppl what they apparently want.

Because it's popular and it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. It's definitely not a flavour of the month, as it's been reigning king of FPS multiplayer since CoD 4.

Like anything popular people will nitpick and criticize it to death. While the SP and the games themselves aren't terrible or bad they are just overrated and causing a lot of other developers to try and emulate the formula. If you can't beat them join then. And imitation is the highest form of flattery. So this is causing FPS' genre to become stagnant as a lot of games now are becoming derivative as a lot of cookie cutter clone games are being produced from an already mediocre game because it's popular. It's like the movie and music industry.

Also the game itself I've only played MP in MW3 and it enraged me at times. The respawn points are terrible the maps are too small, the lag compensation is frustrating and killstreaks and some of the weapons feel totally useless. If you can't quickscope well with snipers there's maybe 2 maps at best where you can hardscope successfully. At least that I could find. I'm not a very good player so there is that.

EDIT:
Also on the subject of MP, not sure how I forgot this.  The actual community, because the game IS so popular is by far one of the worst in gaming history.  Obviously it has legit hardcore decent gamers but because it's so popular it attracts casual gamers as well and some of these players don't care about playing a game legitmately and will cheat.  Others are very rude and beligerent in game and more still will be racist and immature.  This isn't a fault of the developers or producers obviously it's just a product of the games popularity that because there are so many more gamers playing the series it's going to attract more morons.  This is the crux of why CoD is so unpopular because of the ratio of decent (in terms of being a human) to lousy human beings.

The SP difficulty on Veteran is artificially difficult instead of just being legitimately difficult with all the grenade spam and lack of cover and not being able to go prone like some other FPS' Again a huge problem with the game. Also the crutch of very frequent checkpoints make it bearable at the same time.

Just my thoughts.

This video pretty much sums up why.

Also why the "professional" gaming, MLG, or competitive gaming community are generally regarded as insufferable pr*cks.

I actually enjoyed the Call of Duty franchise up to the first Modern Warfare which was very good in my opinion, it was like playing an action movie. Yet after that everything was very uninspired, the storyline was incredibly stupid, even the gameplay took a step back in some places.

The worst thing is how so many other franchises games are trying to replicate CoD's multiplayer and appeal to that crowd, which is probably the most immature community among the shooter market.

I haven't liked any multiplayer FPS since Quake 2. Everything that tries to be "realistic" inevitably removes a certain amount of skill from the multiplayer aspect of the game. Every shooter I see/play now has no concept of defense: someone comes up behind you and you can't even turn your silly analog stick fast enough to face them before you die.

Back in my day (ugh), we had grappling hooks that pulled you around a room at high speeds; you had to be good at offense AND defense to succeed. Now it's just "run up behind someone, spray and pray, and then call them an offensive epithet while teabagging them."

You can try Team Fortress 2. That sounds like your kind of game.

I also started playing multiplayer with Quake 2 but I also like semi realistic shooters like Battlefield 3 and real sim like Arma 2. Even the dumbed down shooters like MW2 and MW3 are fun every once in a while.

I don't have problem with the silly analog stick because I refuse to play first person shooters on consoles. :wizard:

I hate what it's done to the industry more than the franchise itself. The games are flawed. I mean, look at a good FPS (Deus Ex) and compare it to Call of Duty. A genre that has potential to be something more than it is today, yet it is inevitably condensed into a 6 hour, extremely linear, boring FPS.

Call of Duty used to be great too. They kept adding new things, kept changing things up, even CoD 4 was pretty good because it was the first of its kind. Then came MW2, and everything went down the drain. The closest IW's ever come so far to originality is World at War, which even then was just a remake of CoD 3. For me, that's another gripe. A great game I grew up with turned into this garbage we have today.
