Why not pixel "nude" models rather than force them to dress in underwear?

Why have censorship at all for an M rated game, ( becouse they still market it to 14 year olds i know ) however if its meant for adults then there is no good reason to censor it at all, if parents let their kids play it any ways its not the games company's fault-its the parents for being lazy. And if you are an adult and cannot handle a wee bit of sexual dealings in a game then you need to go back to farmville, this is not the game for you.

Censoring it is cheaper, that's why.  OT, I'm fine with fade to black.

How is censoring cheaper? Putting on a full set of underwear and animating that seems less expensive than just have minor nudity details.

That would just look awful and out of place. What's the point, anyway? Changeable underwear? Which add enhancements? Haha, what??
Now I picture the Warden asking Sandal to enchant his underpants...

Magic underpants ftw! :wizard:

Seriously though, I think the underwear is fine as it is, though they could loose them for the love scenes. Done tastefully, the appropriate level of coveredness could be achieved with the right camera angles and positions.

Knowing a bit about 3D modeling I can tell you that nude men would need a certain part added to their 3D model, if they were stark naked. ;)

Don't think sending a 3D artist to equip all male models is money well spent (plus you would have to add hair to both male and female parts).

Underwear and fade to black is perfectly fine. Spend more time making better looking weapons or monsters, or whatever.

I'd rather see the characters in their underwear than pixelated. I don't know why, but pixelation just looks really, really wrong to me. For sex scenes though, nude characters but with camera angles so you can't see the details, like in ME.

Morrigans underwear and the ME3 shower-wear were absolutely absurd. I don't need equipable underwear so I am fine with the in game character models not being naked, but, If your going for a cinematic effect for certain scenes in-engine models probably shouldn't be used anyway.

So ladies bending over to pick up change in a busy shopping centre would lead to all sorts of problems then when you bump into them. I'm happy that the bible remains a foundation of modern society. Although that could lead to problems for the male kitchen staff. I'm sure there'd have to be some sort of new kitchen insurance for a hazardous workplace.

Not to mention hightened awareness of genital herpes. "Say no, to sharing your seat"

For the Shame!

I think you may be taking this outta context a tad, just because people shouldn't be ashamed of their natural appearance, sexuality whatever doesn't mean they can't control themselves. To assume otherwise would, as you said lead to many, many problems. Certain parts of the Bible have reasoning to them, certainly not the passages about killing your child if he throws wheat at you. And no, again I think you're taking what I say out-of proportion.  Making a mountain out of a mole-hill if you will.

Honestly the "right through his pants" underwear scenes are a little silly looking imo.

Personally, Mass Effect 1 and 3's creative camera angles worked fine for me. Probably the best compromise between "undies on" and "full monty". And besides, if Fox News hates it, then it's worth doing it.

This whole nudity taboo in the United States is extremely annoying imo. We can have buckets of gore and blood, but if there's a single breast, vagina, or penis visible, then the so-called moral guardians whip out their torches and pitchforks and start burning developers in effigy.  If Bioware wanted to go and put Spartacus and Game of Thrones to shame, then more power to them. It's just not that important to me in a video game.

I'd rather the devs not waste time over the issue of nudity/underwear, seeing as the community can mod in whatever is demanded... and it really doesn't matter to the quality of the game at all.

If you strip your character or companions of all their clothing, then they should be wearing underwear. Pixelation just seems tacky and weird to me. Just as bad as a censor bar.

what sandals said, bioware have done the romance scene perfectly in my book, just look at mass effect minus a certain shower scene, the best example is probably mass effect 1

ME3 did a good job, too. It was undies, but it was an improvement overall from even ME1.

DA2, Anders didn't even take off his coat. The same coat he's been fighting in for 3 years. Ack.

At this point, I almost feel like the sex scenes in DAI should be done in the same style as DAO and DA2 just because it would make a good running gag.

But in all seriousness, I really don't see why they don't do what they did in Mass Effect; show some back, bum, and sideboob but don't show any full frontal nudity.

Edit: You know, fading to black would even be preferable to watching two people grind together in their underwear.

I think creative camera angles are the answer. Fade to black feels inadequate to me. I don't believe pixellation is the answer. Bioware just needs to be creative.

I agree. Using fade to black, magic underwear or pixellation just propogates all the negative stigmas regarding sex that just need to be abandoned. There is nothing shameful about sex.

Yeah, creative camera angles. Good paced editing. Good music. Lighting.

In Mass Effect 1 there was "outrage" because of the amount of skin shown.  Fox did a wonderful job making developers (and publishers) second guess themselves, they even had a catchy phrase "the sexbox".

If side-boob is satan, what does that make Morrigan?  Image IPB

I don't see this as mattering much, because, as others have said, nude mods will spring up like toadstools after rain. It's inevitable. Those who want it will have what they want whether Bioware gives it or not.

Pixelation tends to look really silly, which is why it works so well in The Sims (they don't actually have anything under those pixels)
So I'm inclined to say no to this.

I think Liara's love scene in ME3 is how BioWare should do their scenes. Not underwear, but the camera angles, shadows and arm/leg placement blocked out any of the good bits.
