So I clicked on the heart once or twice with Anders. I was just being the witty and playful character that I play in every WRPG, but then he starts talking about he and I, and I was like, "wtf?".

What I want is an option to politely turn someone down. They did it with Tali in ME2.

Anders was handled very badly. I can't believe that actually got approved and put into the game. I think a lot of the Anders' hate comes from that one interaction.

I actually think it is a realistic enough reaction. Some people just don't take rejection well.

I have been called a **** for a one point saying to a man something which in english translate to 'I am flattered, but not interested in a person I only first met half an hour ago."

I think that people who hates Anders from that conversation is something that I should not put on print here on bsn. That or have been extremely lucky in their own rejections.

That fact is rejection hurts, if nothing else the pride, some people handle hurt badly and some people just generally handle 'no' badly.

So you clicked on dialogue that was marked as romantic, and were surprised when the NPC reacted to it?

I played through Baldur's Gate 2 twice without ever realizing there were romances since I played a female character and told that obnoxious paladin-sounding guy that you meet in the Copper Coronet to buzz off both times. And you know, that was fine by me. I kind of miss the days when the romances were an extra little thing that you had to stumble upon by playing the game just right.

Haha I agree with this too.

BG2 also had that great love triangle between Haer'Dalis, Aerie and the PC that has NEVER been revisited. Would love to see something like that again.

Hmmm, well in DA:O you can actually be really nice to your party members and not romance them. Its the dialog you have to choose that gets tricky. For instance, you could tell Alistair a line you think is friendly, but the game has it programmed under 'flirty'. I had to look up on the wiki to understand it all. Then you get to DA2 and the 'romance' system is a lot easier to get (the pictures help... a little). But they can only go so far until the game throws the love interests at your face. Like Anders, I wanted to romance him on my character, but do it gradually like you could in DA:O... That didn't happen. You get to certain points in the game, and their are two out of three 'flirty' dialogs, and the other is this really mean 'back-off' line. Maybe something that the dev team worked on for DA:I was a refined dialog (romance) system?

Today I played dragon age 2 again in a long time..it was fun but I had a problem along these lines aswell. Just did the first or second quest for Anders in the first act and he comes onto me without being hitting a heart option at all! Just being a nice guy...The only way out of it was break heart, heart and I think intimidate.

I'm a nice guy and I'm straight so I just tell him straight up, I ain't into it. Guess what boom 10 rivalry..uhh what?

tl:dr Being nice is a dick move
