There are no villains in this tale because this isn't a work of romantic fiction. They made a product you didn't like: they don't need a motivation in order to produce something you didn't like, nor have you provided any evidence that such an outcome was their intent. All you've encountered a difference of taste, not some conspiracy.

I stand by my wild speculations. If this was just a case of weird taste and incompetence at BW, why on Earth would they shut the freaking writing team out of the room when coming up with the ending, then sneak it in the game as if ashamed? Are those the actions of people trying to provide the finest possible experience to the player?

If it seems so "stupid" to you, maybe it's because in a very real sense it is. Sadly, you misattribute the stupidity to the messanger.

In this case, the messenger is telling a tale of projected interpretations and hyperbolic tone and claims, with precious little support accompanying it.

It's one thing to call the messenger stupid, which I'm not. It's another to warn the messenger that he doesn't have evidence for what he's carrying, which you don't.

Well, they are speculations...

Although I do find them somewhat credible. More so than assuming Casey Hudson is completely incompetent. Also more respectful. He did bad, but there were reasons.

Yes it was rushed, the ending was rushed for sure. If the game was delayed a couple months and included the extended cut endings or more, and the citadel DLC, I don't think the game would have gotten as much criticism as it did when it came out.

That being said, still love the game and the series.  My favorite all time, to the point where I don't really want to play anything else.

Not sure how much of a difference it would have made, but if the original dark energy plot was never leaked early on then there would be no need to cut out/change material meaning the game may have been more of a finished product towards the end.

Also I think Casey/Mac working on the new ending in secrecy, possibly to avoid any sort of leaked spoilers, may have been a result of the original leak.

I'm not going to blame Microsoft or the guys who data mined that info however. If a storyline is good enough, there's no need to change it, even if it does get leaked. The majority of the players won't come across the leaked plot unless they actively search for it. Of the minority of the players that do come across it, an even smaller percentage of that minority will refuse to buy the product after seeing spoilers. I think Bioware needs to stop worrying so much about leaks and just focus on making a good product. If the plot is good enough, most people will buy it, leaked or not.

I agree with you, they shouldn't worry about leaks because I think a majority of ME fans would still buy it, because they enjoy being part of the journey.

Just a hint:

The ending is almost shot-for-shot the same now as it was in the original leaks, with only a few superficial differences.

@Oventus

It is possible the implementation would have been better though.

A lot of story elements for the game in general though are practically an unfinished beta compared to what was in the script/draft.

I would argue a notable amount of change was had because of the leak, but how much exactly we will likely never know. The other half of those cuts were time constraints.

A game like this simply needed more time in the oven.
