The Ash hate wouldn't irritate me so much if it wasn't based on a misconception. The eternal claim that she is racist. Her own writer stated point blank on several occasions that this is a false assumption. I mean, seriously, Shepard picks up a group of strays at the inter-galactic bus stop, and a senior NCO is not supposed to have security concerns? It's like the article I once read by some politician over in the US that compulsory voter registration was racist, when it's something that most first world democracies have had for years. It's such an illogical, overblown claim that it's impossible to take seriously.
Honestly, I've actually heard some of the reasons given by people for hating her from former friends in real life. It's left me head-scratching at the narrow-mindedness of humans toward their own, sometimes. Like when Adoremei says that Ashley is very 'military' and that every aspect of her personally offends him. It's a statement that is, ironically, extraordinarily offensive.
I have to agree. Personally I never saw Ash as racist, and the first time I ever heard about it was from these forums. I just saw her as being Alliance first and she just distrusted any race other than humans because she felt humans would be the ones to put human interests first. She's also very strong willed, stubborn, and takes her job very seriously. Like you said, I'm really not surprised she had concerns about there being aliens on the ship, but she did get over it.
I guess that rubs people the wrong way because she doesn't come off as "playful" or "friendly" enough or something.
Besides, she did change though and worked with aliens and got over her distrust of other races, so this whole racist stuff I hear when it comes to Ash should be long gone anyways. Some people just don't want to forget about it I guess.
