It proves what I've been saying all along. BroShep > FemShep.

The FemShep fan community is a small, but very vocal minority.

When in the MP forums somebody shouted for a FemShep version of Best of the Best, they argued that at least 75% of people play as FemShep.

As with the "The harrier isn't used that much at all" guys, I was right in the end. Delicious.

@Topic:

I say that those statistics are sad. They show how much casual players exist, and the fact that ME3 sold better than ME1 and ME2 combined already implies that nobody really cares about the story. See all those players that have never met Wrex.

But I'm very happy that Liara actually dies more often than Garrus or Vega. Clearly they've counted in that I want to strangle her every second she's on the screen.

But then....this also means that so many players have extremely low EMS and just made priority missions.

Casuals ruining gaming again.

Sad Moskvin.

^^ Well ME3 was the PERFECT place to jump aboard afterall......

F**k that, it should have been the absolute WORST time to jump on the bandwagon. If you want to play ME, go back and play ME1 and ME2 first FFS.

Who cares what the stat says. The important thing is your own opinion. If you prefer femshep over male shep, go for it. Or if you love Liara, hate Ashley, then romance Liara, and left Ash to die in Virmire. Why do you care if some other people says otherwise. As long as you enjoy the game, it's fine. Stats, opinions, etc... Those are just useless.

With every ME game, BioWare clearly got more and more resources and money to pour into marketing and so forth.

Does it really surprise people that many jumped on in 2 and 3?

Heck PS3 couldn't even play 1 till very, very recently.

No, not really.

It would have been better had they had the Genesis II i-comic available for PC, 360 and PS3 users from the get-go though IMO.

Come to think of it, if you have a female Shepard, save Kaidan on Virmire and Kaidan is your love interest, it becomes a gender swap of the overused "damsel in distress" trope...

That subversion almost never happens in video games...
It's always the male character rescuing the helpless female character who's in trouble and needs rescuing...

So that's refreshing as hell, actually...

Choosing the gender of your hero is pretty much a standard in every RPG today unless you play a very specific set Character, and that's a good thing.

I'm thankful they did or I never would have played Mass Effect. That said, I could have been better off...

Yea, especially when skinny little femshep hauls big bulky Kaidan up over her shoulder and carries him to the Normandy. All the while Kaidan, who is helplessly hanging there, shrugs his arms in a "what the hell?" motion.

Seriously, half my Sheps are ladies and i see no reason Bioware would ever want to stop giving us female options. It's been one of their killing points since what? Baldur's gate?

"hardcore" gamers constantly CONSTANTLY whining about how "casual" gamers are ruining gamers is getting extremely old. Gamers have been complaining about that since the 80's and it's yet to be true. It's just gamers getting themselves into a scared little panty twist over the oh-so-scary casuals who are apparently destroying everything they touch.

You know the best way to know an immature and petty gamer who has no clue what they're talking about? Watch how often they complain about casual gamers and "casual games". Casual is nothing but a buzz word that gamers use when they want to complain about something they don't like in gaming.

I'd call CoD a casual game for casual gamers. Hell most of the people I know who play CoD don't even consider themselves gamers period, let alone casual gamers. Yet there they are, playing a game.

You sound like a very vitriol-filled person to me.

Just want to throw this out there.

Say ME3 made $200 million dollars in sales. 18% of that is $36 million dollars just for FemShep. I think that's hardly a drop in the bucket and is worth some time.

I'm just getting tired of it after seeing complaints about it on every gaming board I visit for the last 15 years. And yes, there are gamers who play much less then others and could be considered "casual"... But blaming those kind of gamers for "ruining gaming" and making them the scape goat for everything you don't like in gaming is just stupid. Casuals aren't boogeymen, they're not the enemy, they're not the cause of gaming apparently getting worse. They're just people who play games less then you and less seriously then you, that's all.

TBF, talking of CoD, casual gamers are actually a godsend. It tends to be those that take it so seriously that are the ones sat in the corners of rooms surrounded by claymores, camping their way to their killstreaks........

It was not a waste of resources. If they wouldn't have created FemShep, then I'd most likely not have played Mass Effect or any other of BioWare's products for that matter.

And if I ain't a customer of a certain company, it might as well go out of business as it has no reason to exist anymore.

Since data shows Femshep is a minority... we should treat her as a minority. For example, we could make it more realistic. Have FemShep be a lower rank then man shep. Also I think Fem Shep should get less XP and credits for completing a quest. Little things like this need to be added so when playing a fem shep the player gets the vibe that "Yes, Fem Shep is a hero.... but shes still not as good of a hero as man shep.

little bits of realism like this would really enhance the games immersion.

While I like this idea, I do not think it'd work well with Mass Effect. I'd like to think that in the ME-universe human species has achieved some sort of equality between gender/religious backround/sexual orientation/etc. But in Dragon Age III I could see this being an issue and a big theme in gameplay dynamics. Maybe instead of difficulty levels DA-III could have gender/race as difficulties. ^^

Well, that is assuming that the 18% played Femshep exclusively, which is probably not the case.  It is the case for me, and I certainly don't think Femshep was a waste of resources by any means, just sayin.

That's assuming that none of that 18% wouldn't have bought the game if there was no female option in it - which is clearly false. A good portion of them would have given their money to BW regardless, so 18% of player base does not equal 18 % of all profit.

As for the thread subject, an opportunity to choose gender has been a staple of BW games since Baldur's Gate. They will not drop it.

I only made 1 MShep, the others 10 were FShep. If Ididn't have the choice to make a female, I wouldn't have made so much playthroughs.

Waste of time? I bought all three games and played only Femshep because I am a girl and I had the time of my life! Hard for me to agree with the waste of time thing. It is beyond Goofus to complain about losing a crumb off of the huge resource pie that the male gets! Besides being not very Gallant.
I have as much right to enjoy my game as you do.

I dont think its a waste.

For years Ive had to play the big bald space marine, or the marysue bad ass male in sci-fi games, Mass effect gave me something i wanted. and If the percentages are true that they showed us (I wanted to see Marauder shields's kill count), then that means that a small number of people like me, wanted to expirience the game as Female commander shepard and being given the choice was briliant.

Would I have chosen her, if Jenifer Hale did not voice her? ofcourse i would. and not to sound too far up biowares bum, but I wouldnt have got an x-box 360 if it wasnt for them and Mass Effect.  before that game I was un educated in RPGS that werent MMO's(the only reason i played these was for gender equality and my friends/family)  Since Mass Effect, ive played alot more RPGS, gone back to older ones I didnt know alot about, and over all enjoy my gaming expirience more.

So clearly it was a waste? Well If 99.9 of peopel thought it was a waste and I was the 0.1 that said It wasnt, then it wasnt a complete waste, because it wasnt to me.

Apologies for the last statistic thing maths isnt my strong point, I just wanted to share my thoughts on this =):)

I agree with OP, I have more femsheps than I do male sheps.
