So with the recently released infographic (Can't link from my phone, sorry) detailing that 18% of people played as FemShep, there's been talk of FemShep being a waste of Bioware's resources/time.
I disagree, I admit I have two FemShep characters and only played both to Sanctum. But I am thankful to Bioware for including the option to play as FemShep. It was a different experience and she was pretty kick***. So hopefully the next ME installment will include gender option for main character, or possibly even more otions (playable Asar, Salarianc, etc. or something). Good job Bioware.
Sorry for any bad English.
LOL.
Businesses invest in resources and products to address the desires of far LESS than 20% of their customer base.
No. Wasn't a waste. Future games will still have a femme option.

I will never play anything other than femshep. Additionally, Hale went above and beyond what I expected so to each their own I guess.

Honestly I'm indifferent. I could care less if I'm playing as a male or a female. As long as I have a good memorable time with a game. However, the option to play either is nice, but it doesn't effect me. I've been gaming my whole life and I don't care about diminutive things like what gender the character is.
Just enjoy the story and gameplay and move on.
Except that I can't enjoy the story with Mark Meer....so there's that.

To me Mark Meer sounds very dead pan most of the time just as Shepard in particular. (Not all of the time just most and to me he does)cerberus1701 wrote...

Those stats are based off of the cloud save data and there are a lot of people who don't use cloud save.
If this is true, then I am not part of those stats as I don't use cloud save. So add one more person who plays FemShep.
And this isn't to anyone in particular, but the reason you will find more FemShep players here on BSN is because we're actually welcome here as opposed to some other gaming forums.
Ditto that. I play femshep all the way. I am a female gamer who plays female toons and looses interest when that option is not available to me. I don't use cloud save data. All our saves are on our hard drive for our xbox.

Good for you. Not being snarky. I wish I could but he just sounds bored to tears.
Quite glad to have the Hale option.

You disagree with the notion that FemShep was a waste of resources (and I agree), but your thread title comes across as claiming FemShep was a waste of resources. That's where you should consider the change.

He just sounds bored to me. Better in the last two, but I honestly can't play ME1 as MShep.

I have yet to complete any version of ME with a male Shepard.
But then they also wasted resources putting in that dumb Engineer class, so that worked out for me too.

Don't worry, his voice annoyed the hell out of me too. I just tune it out just like how I tune out the deplorable parts of the world. The Mass Effect games are pretty good. Most of the debates about them are just meager and full of malcontent.

I do have to say though, even though I have completely enjoyed Hale's voice acting all the way through. Going back and playing ME2 now after just having played ME3 something seems lacking there. There is so much passion in the voice acting in ME3 for her that isn't there in ME2.

If BioWare had provided the ladies with some decent romance options, they may have loved the game even more and would have recruited some more of their friends further expanding that 18%. If one looks at statistics, only 35% of people in the States possess a college degree. Of that 35%, 65% are women. That means that there will be a shift in who makes more money in the next 15 years or so. Failing to serve the women does not make any business sense.
While it is true that there are more male than female gamers, it is an unexplored market that offers great expansion possibilities as well. It would be wise to keep the female aspect around and to create characters and stories that appeal to women.
