The thing that really turned me off of Hale's acting is whenever those pre-romance segments of the game were triggered. It was like someone in the recording studio told Hale, "Okay... now for this scene we want you to sound like you've just put the chloroform to this man's mouth, and tell him just what you're going to do to him once you have him chained up in your basement."

It was REALLY hard to play as FemShep when she went full creeper.

Op, you're a man, I'm a man. There are less of us than there are women total, does that mean testicular and prostate cancer research are a waste of resources?

Everyone deserves equality of opportunity.

Not sure what you're trying to say DiebytheSword.

I believe I could be wrong, but I think it said "played" as MaleShep. I have more substantial time played as a male because of the way they shafted FemShep in ME3. Sorry, not into forced lesbianism.

I'm a woman and I love default BroShep and will pretty much only play as him. I tried a FemShep play through, twice actually, and just could not get through the game. I didn't have any major issues with the VA but she just couldn't deliver those renegade lines. She sounded like she was trying to be sexy. Something I hate with female action protagonists. I needed command and authority in Shepard's voice that Meer did a much, much better job at. Plus Meer's comedic timing was priceless. Also, FemShep sounds like a porn queen whenever she talks to Jacob and James and from what I heard all she does is beg James for sex, its hard for me to take her seriously as Commander Shepard. If all I had to play was the female, I would have traded the game in, period.

However, 18% is still something. I wouldn't call it a waste of resources unless the devs come on and tell us they could have spent more time and money on a better ending etc without FemShep.

Well vote of one, so take it for what it is worth.

I've played FemShep from my start with ME (ME2 for me, then going back to ME1, then replay ME2 prior to ME3).

I didn't pick FemShep because I prefer seeing a cute ass on my screen.

I didn't pick FemShep so I can have alien lesbian sex (my first LI was Garrus).

I picked FemShep because I really prefer Jennifer Hale's voice over Mark Meer's. Since I get to listen to many hours of their voices over and over again, it made a big difference to me.

I am just now getting to the point where I'm ok listening to Meer's "flat" delivery and working through a Maleshep ME1 playthru. But it has taken years for me to work up to it. Mostly because I've explored most of the content for a Femshep.

The more I think about it, my problem is the Meer's voice doesn't "fit" the default appearance. Whereas I was able to create a custom FemShep face that I liked that fits Hale's voice perfectly.

I don't think it was a waste.

I'm personally incapable of envisioning any Shepard that isn't Sheploo, but others feel differently, however many or few of them there are.

Despite the vast majority of Shepards being Male, the vast majority of things you will find for Shepard on the internet (fanfiction, art, etc.) is for femshep. She clearly has a devoted fanbase.

I haven't read all the posts so I imagine that I'm repeating what others have said.
But I love the fact that I get to play as a woman. For quite a long time I always had to play as a male character. The fact that I can play as a voiced female character is one of the (many) reasons I love this series.

It's funny because when I play MaleShep, I only ever play with that default face, and I always associate it with that voice. I only ever play custom FemSheps and with the different face/hair for each one, it takes me a while each time to readjust to hearing that stronger voice for a character that I got lost in designing to be attractive.  But I do love her voice. I love Meer's voice too but for different delivery.

I actually almost played MaleShep exclusively because when I first saw my fiance playing, I only saw MaleShep. So that's what I was accustomed to. Plus, MaleShep can romance Tali. Then, I heard that 3 would allow for same sex relationships and I started to get FemShep up to that level.. and found out that Tali was only romanceable if you romanced her in 2. So.. they really only designed her for MaleShep. Anyhow. That's neither here nor there. I.. just went off on a tangent.

Kaidan and Garrus are women? Why was I not told.

Let's not allow the stat's to sway opinion to much. After all, the male shepard model has been pushed two games longer than the Femshep model.

And did that data show that it was the default model's the player's played as? Or their own custom model's? It's not 'explicitly stated what model's were used, only that the gender roles were selected. I have a femshep, but she's not the strawberry freckled default one.

you are aware that garrus can't be romanced in three and that kaidan can easily die in mass effect right?

not forgetting all of her romances in 2 excepting garrus fail

FemShep>MaleShep
If there is only MaleShep (or whatever he is called) in future games it will be a downfall, believe me.

Agree 100%. I don't think Bioware would let us down by forcing a gender on us for the next game. What scares me is a radical departure from the style of gameplay we've come to expect. I want to see a return to ME1 mechanics, with better enemy AI and smoother combat but not a GoW clone which is my deepest fear regarding ME4.

Wouldn't worry - NWN, KotOR, DA, ME - all have gender choice. It's not like they're about to take that away.

I'd have thought it would be around 30% to be honest.

Still, it's nice the option exists. Never done a playthrough myself but it's never nice to see parts of the player base excluded.

Yes, let's just canonize the paragon Sheploo soldier. While we're at it, remove all choices, we're only interested in what the majority will pick. Everything else is clearly a waste of resources.

Stretches back to BG.

They aren't going to remove gender choice.

If you don't cater to the minority too, if those choices aren't there even if you wouldn't select them anyway, then the lack of depth shows. FemShep is most definitely not a waste of resources (and I've only ever completed a single ME1 run with her).

Actually, the more choice's and form's in the road mean's the opporunity to explore the narrative. I wanna see how thing's pan out ifI go for different option's. Cause being the goody two shoe's get's old after awhile.

everyone seems to forget that maleshep is the default. i know a ton of people who had me3 as their first me game. hell, 1 buddy of mine didnt even know about changing the face at all, he literally just jumped right in.

im betting a lot of the stats from pax dont tell the whole story. i consider it "bad data". context was taken out completely

class and custom appearance aren't comparable to femshep...
Female Shepard has to have separately recorded lines for everything, which is indeed a substantial amount of content...

I wonder how much audio that is if you add up all of femshep's lines plus all of the lines that refer to femshep's gender...

I am female. I play only as FemShep (since ME1). If FemShep had not been an option I wouldn’t have bought ME2 and ME3 and ME1 would never made it past the character creation screen. I never use the cloud storage option in Origin.

I'm glad that femshep is making the game more accessible to more people...
I like that main character gender is an option, but I also feel it requires a lot to have two protagonist voices in such a talkative game. I can't help but feel it has to be affecting the content in other areas...

So I'm very much torn on the issue...
