Yes, let's just canonize the paragon Sheploo soldier. While we're at it, remove all choices, we're only interested in what the majority will pick. Everything else is clearly a waste of resources.

Female Shepard has to have separately recorded lines for everything, which is indeed a substantial amount of content...

I wonder how much audio that is if you add up all of femshep's lines plus all of the lines that refer to femshep's gender...

FemShep>MaleShep
If there is only MaleShep (or whatever he is called) in future games it will be a downfall, believe me.

It will be a downfall because 10% of male players can't have a lesbomance and handful of female gamers don't buy it?  The same way that the BSN is the majority of players and that everyone hated Mass Effect 3.

Kind of a moot point as the next Mass Effect will have the female option.  it will also have LBG options.  It will also be loaded with microtransactions and 20$ DLC missions.

It's not like Renegade options for mShep and responses to them write and record themselves in 2 days, or that every class other than Soldier is not being programmed for months. All of the different options and choices take a ton of resources so of course it's comparable to FemShep but this the point of a game that at least is suppoused to be an RPG - to provide variety of options for different playstyles.

This stat and the paragon stat and the soldier stat are absolutely shocking to me. I've got 3 femsheps, 5 infiltrators, 3 vanguards, 1 engi, 1 sentinal and 1 soldier- so I'm really, really in the minority. I also Have 4 renegade sheps out of my 8, so....... Yeah. Don't agree about it being a waste resources.

I love Femshep. I played her purely because I preferred her voice. If there was only a male option in the game, I would have been incredibly disappointed, particularly as ME is an RPG.

Soldier stat actually went DOWN heavily compared to ME2: www.destructoid.com/mass-effect-2-player-choice-statistics-are-surprising-188362.phtml now that 65% was way more terrifying. Male/female and Paragon/Renegade breakdown is practically identical to ME2 stats but class stats changed

In a business sense what it would come down to is if the amount of femshep players would pay for the resources needed to put her there in the first place. The wages of those who worked on it, the wages of any extra VA work and so on. The answer to that question, when talking about a game that has sold millions of copies is yes, Femshep would have paid for herself + added profit = not a waste of time and effort to add the extra variety to the game.

How many people romanced Kaidan or Cortez as BroShep?
I suspect not enough to warrant the wasted resources spend on their content with BroShep.

Kaiden and BroShep have a cute romance that's easily my favorite. It was most definitely NOT wasted resources.

The stats are interesting, I'll say that much. It fit into the minority in most of them, (FemShep Engineer, etc.) so lets just say I'm glad they DID include them.

Without FemShep I would not have bought the game. It's an RPG.

Wow...

And here BSN was stating that "ME3 just had mostly new players who only want to pew-pew". What the hell does this say about ME2 then?

Funny thing is that I also remember a stat stating that 50% of players didn't use an import for ME2 so I have a sneaking suspicion that in ME1, the soldier class was ALSO the most popular and I'm willing to bet it too was also above 50%

^ This. Pretty sure Bioware doesn't want to lose that 18% that not only plays Mass Effect, but Neverwinter, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, KOTOR and SWTOR ect...

Characters customisation and gender choice are one of their staple. It sure as hell isn't making sequels and tying up trilogies....

I don't like Hale in Mass Effect since the very first game. I just don't like the way she act and all.

However I feel like it is justified that people who want to play a female character get a voice over and also the possibility to do so.

I never cease to be astonished by how many people, in an RPG, go with the default character appearance and class and mindlessly click the top of the dialogue wheel every single time. I guess that's casual gamers, for you.

Same here. My main Shepard was femshep engineer playing through on insanity, so I'm glad they kept those options for me to enjoy.^_^

No, it proves that "the unwashed masses"  and "lowest common denominator" are real concepts.  That's about it.

So clearly Wrex, Kaiden, ME1, and ME2 were also a waste of resources since the majority of ME3 players didn't bother with them. In fact, they should have just released the MP portion and flushed the whole unique universe /storyline thing they had going on.

The generalizations in this thread are pretty ****ing disgusting.

Not every guy who picked femshep did so for lesbian sex, give me a break.

More video games should have a choice for male or female for your character , kudos to bioware for actually including it in there trilogy i think femshep could have gotten a bit more love , no recources where waste on fem , iam grateful there actually was a choice and i enjoyed playing both fem and male shepard.

I have a lvl 60 fem shep, and a level 58 femshep.
One is evil one is good.
I gave maybe 4 male sheps- who are all around level 1-13.
I think "I should give this a shot", and it does not play through.
If femshep wasn't there I probably wouldn't have gotten me2.
(Playing me1 was super cool, but being a space lady kicking ass... I was captain janeway.
My crew... My ship... My character! Being female, as an option was what really helped me into the feeling game. There are game sieries that I have dropped because I don't "feel" it. Assasin creed is a huge game tilte I've dropped. I don't own a vita, and cannot shell out a bunch of cash for one handheld, in order to play ONE game with a female MC. But they aren't willing to make gender optional for their newest AC. I'm getting tired of games that force you to play as something you are not. Mass effect lets you be who and what you want, and that's why it's so loved. Taking away the options that make it hit home with so many different people would be a mistake. Taking away femshep/gender options. Is/would be a mistake.)

Renegade is more comparable, although a higher percentage of players use it and it gives the paragon options meaning...
class and custom appearance are not comparable...

And I've said I'm torn on the issue...
I believe femshep is a good option to have...
If for no other reason than she's one of the strongest female leads in gaming...

As much as Shepard was predefined in ME3, they should just go w/ a predefined character in the next ME game anyway. Just make it a one class shooter w/ a named brown haired brown eyed white male and be done w/ it. Uncharted Effect. That should just about do it. :P
