So, I'm in the elven ruins in the werewolf mission.

I get to the altar where you are supposed use a jug and water, or something. Suddenly, the game without warning ports me into the room north of that sacred pool, where I'm attacked by a ghost and some shades. I defeat them....

AND I CAN'T LEAVE THE ROOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY? Because the door was locked, and I never opened it. The game just PICKED ME UP and PUT ME IN THE ROOM without my completing the mission to UNLOCK THE DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who beta tested this game? Insane load times, bad AI, glitches, memory leaks. I know the release was delayed - you should have delayed it some more.Image IPB

How can I be revealing any spoilers when I have no idea what's going on? This is a @&#^@ BUG, not a plot detail.

The point is - I was not teleported by in-game action. The game got confused and put me somewhere I should not have been.

There's nothing I can do in the room, and since the door is locked, the character is trapped there.

This game is an utter mess.

use one of your autosaves and move on?

Saying a game is an utter mess after you encounter one freak bug that you probably won't be able to replicate is a bit harsh to say the least.

Ah. Use one of my autosaves. Which means having to replay an hour worth of combat and exploration? Again? Difficult battles I squeezed through the skin of my teeth?

Am I going to have to start creating TWO FRIGGIN' SAVE FILES? One in case the other one is screwed up?

Bioware's job is to release a not-buggy PC game. Especially when they delay it 8 months to build console ports.

Have I just been playing RPG's too long?  When did not having 800 seperate saves start.? This is SOP for me from the very first time I played Kings Quest.  Protects you from your own mistakes as well as glitches.  I had a glitch similar to this, an cut sceen turned into a never ending loop but because I had just saved I poped back to that and all was right with the world.  I know you may not like having more than one but it really should just become second nature to have a few.

You went through an hour of gameplay without saving? You could have died... would have had the same effect. But if you're too stubborn to load a savegame.. enjoy your new room :-)

Also I agree with Boom because you mentioned specific locations and sceens you should have posted in spoiler area. If you go to their area they also have alot more people helping with questions like this. So it would have been good for two reasons.

When did having seperate saves become MANDATORY? I've been playing RPGs since Ultima III on the C-64.

Three very important things to remember when playing a game like this:
1) Save often.
2) Save often
3) Save often.

BTW, When you quit the game, can I have your stuff?

I do. After every major battle.

Again, since when is it acceptable to have to save every 5 minutes IN CASE OF GAME CRASHING BUG?

OK so you an I are on the same page. I started with Kings Quest on my IBM PC Jr.

I have NEVER gone more than 30 min without saving and ontop of that I have never saved over a previous save. You never know when something totally f'ed up is going to happen. I have considered it mandatory from the jump. I guess from watching all of my friends to the same and seeing on most RPG sites people talk about it like its some sort of canon law I assumed most people did it too. Guess not.

Let's see....take 3 seconds to save every 10 minutes....that's 18 seconds an hour. Compare to replay of 1 hour of exploration and battle....No contest.

Oh, I do save when I think "this has gone long enough". I've had enough accidental computer crashes/shut downs/etc. to be wary.

But the fact is that 1. you're not always going to be saving every few minutes. That's not YOUR job as a gamer, to worry about stable software. 2. when you constantly save and worry about the game, you start not caring about the story, characters, etc, and then the game gets dull.

It breaks the suspension of disbelief and ruins the story flow. I'm finding myself not really caring about the game, and the only reason I'm bothering to play it is that I have to review it.

Oooh! Is that in the manual?

"You should save every 10 minutes because this software is kinda buggy."

Am I supposed to worry about saving instead of plot, story, gameplay... fun?

Question: are the load times part of that save schedule? If I have a 4 minute load time, should I save 6 minutes later?

I love people who feel it's the person who purchased the software's job to deal with buggy, half-baked software, and not the developer's.

first of all, immersive and extensive and detailed games like DAO is expected to have bugs/glitches, try writing a piece of code/script and you'll understand the madness

having that said, im amazed BW had kept the levels of bugs/glitches to utmost minimal (no bugs yet for me)

yes, do save often, if you don't, it's your fault. It happens to me, I completed like 5 quests in like 2 hours in Lothering, then died....got pissed and decided to rest....game on....save countless times....redid all quests lost in 30 min..... GROOVY!

Oh, that's rich. Gamers have been screwed over so hard that they now find it acceptable. Question: when they delayed the PC version of Dragon Age for a few months, you might think stability might have improved.

I miss the days of external beta testing.

As for "saving often", how often? Every 10 minutes? Every 5 minutes? Every minute? At what point do I play the game?

I've been playing computer games since 1980. I suspect I've been gaming longer than you've been alive. I know how to play games. How to save. How to back up.

OMG dude 4 min + load times? I just read that in one of your posts here and on your post on your other site. That is re-****g-tarded! I have way more graphicaly intense games that don't take half that time to load. I went with the xbox version on DA:O because I have gotten to the edge on what my pc can handle and I just didn't want to mess with it for this game and I have to say I am glad I did. I would much rahter trade the graphics for the load times.

Wow, you don't play many pc games do you? Playing through any single player game without having multiple saves isn't very intelligent. There's always the factor of getting stuck, doing something you did not intend to do, getting bugged, making a wrong decision, misclicking, wanting to play a specific part again, accidentally pressing the quicksave button instead of the quickload button when about to die etc etc ...
