ryoldschool said he just leaves lobbies if they don't have gear (somewhere in this thread). why? help them through it and maybe they'll learn, which in turn means less of a "problem" for the more experienced player

Even more importantly, give yourself a challenge. I have yet to be able to carry a gold game, but I've also never kicked anybody from a game because of low N7, weapons or lack of gear. I realize that they should have the consciousness to play bronze or silver with what they have, but they're new. Maybe they learn differently; some people need to fail in order to find success, others need to succeed in some capacity in order to not lose interest.

I'd like to add what works and doesn't work as far as weapons go. I have seen a far too many Acolytes/Scorpions with AP mods and Crusaders/GPSs with smart chokes. I understand they should play how they want, but if they understood that those things don't work well, I am sure they will change how they use them because they want to.

To your point, there's a serious difference between trying to learn spawns based on the position of the players and simply watching the group's blind spot. One takes a half second of moving your mouse/control stick while you're not doing anything anyway, or taking a quick look down an unobserved hallway while you're safe. The other takes knowing where the enemies spawn in the first place and a series of inobvious spawn mechanics that are stated outright exactly nowhere but here, in a thread that only really exists in a few poster's signatures.

The enemies move once they spawn, and it doesn't matter where they came from if you check where they could show up and surprise you every once in a while.

fair point. thank you for clarifying. just keep in mind this thread is meant for the new players, i don't want anyone confused by our two points, should they conflict in any way

my experience is that gold players who don't apply consumables are much more likely to quit if they get grabbed early in a wave and leave you short handed, also less likely to use gel.  If I am playing with friends we can lose a random with little worries, but in a pug my experience is that its usually a disaster.

i actually enjoy showing new players the ropes, but they need to be invested.

btw, if we do have a guy who quits, I will usually guard the LZ so the poor dude that hopefully gets dropped into our match does not get downed before he even sees the match.

New players don't understand the spawns or how to manipulate them. Don't bother trying to teach them.

Replace that advice with: Watch a flank. So many teams have been downed by one or two Geth Hunters or a lone Phantom sneaking in unopposed.

this is learning spawns based on positions of players and what you have just killed.

it seems you don't understand language, maybe i shouldn't try to teach you

If I must stoop down to this level for only a second, at least I used correct punctuation and capitalization, a functional part of language skills.

Shazam!

But seriously this is a good tip too. Once you kill a group of enemies or most of a group it is definitely time to turn around and check your flank(s). Those pyro's and hunters can sneak up mighty quick on a team that is focusing on the big group of 2 primes etc.

This would make top 3 on my list of what gets new players (or even experienced ones) killed the most.

yeah, this is more down to lack of knowledge on the game, not them choosing to use AP ammo on projectile weapons out of spite. if i see this in a lobby, i will send them a quick message and they usually switch out their mods

I think it is always appropriate to point these things out, even experienced players can make errors.

Perfect example, last night I decided to use one of my precious shotgun amps (so precious) and +%15 Shotgun gear on my GI ... forgetting that I had replaced the Pirahna in an earler match with the Talon ... oops. I happened to not notice until I was in game (and the other 3 players were all experienced - a rarity in PSN PUG). I'm %100 to blame, but one of them must have noticed ... they could have said something ...:(

I doubt there's anyone on BSN with a challenge score under 500. :P

Google "Right-Hand-Advantage" and use it constantly. Nothing keeps you alive more than this tactic alone...

You may want to put ME3 before that.
Googling "Right-Hand-Advantage" by itself my have.......unintended results.

Tip - Wave 10 (Targets specifically) if you run to the target and there are 2 of them. Please missile before you get sync'd or excessively pummeled by the 2 bosses + the little ones. Also if you see a teammate struggling to handle a spawn or see something approaching his/her flank. Shoot it or call it to his/her attention. Don't let teammates get flanked while they are dealing with boss (Distracting in my case).

New players should remember that even the shiny Rare drops are easily supplimented by Common weapon mods. Who here doesn't smart choke most of their shotguns? Anybody? Thought so.

So buy Recruit Packs first.

I agree with you 100% in principle.  But seriously, how many newbies to ME3MP do you think understand AOE versus hitscan?

It's a lot for the new player to take in.  I took a few months off and I couldn't remember if AP ammo worked on the Scorpion pre or post round detonation. :pinched:

I think Bioware should make combo's like Scorpion and Piercing mod
unusable  so players don't waste their time or other players time.

Plus a good deal won't come here to learn.  They just pop the game in and go.  I bet most probably don't know the different playing skill between B,S,G & P too.  A majority won't go right to platinum (some will of course).  But they figure, oh, I played COD or GOW, I can handle Gold.  Then after wave 1, they are sorely mistaken and hide the rest of the match or rage quit.

My two cents.  :)

I heard he loves it when you kill the last remaining Nemesis when he's trying to teach speedrunning. It's an auto-friend request.

True, but they should do that anyway to get their hands on the noob god that is the M-92 Mantis. Far more important are the now difficult to find uncommon weapon mods. Even more than Smart Choke, Extended Barrel (3/5 uncommon) and Piece mods (4/5 Uncommon) go on everything. It's why I'm glad proposals to move some rare stuff down to uncommon were never entertained.

Take your best weapons and gear. Go for max damage.

Take your hardest tank character to begin with - you'll soon get enough experience to use the squishies.

If you're not moving, you should be looking and thinking about moving. Keep in mind the camping spots and have them to retreat to if necessary.

If you're swarmed in any wave, use a rocket if you can't back off.
