This is for all new players on the game who want to try out a gold game.
To all veteran players, I'll only explain some basic need to know things. I won't explain all our tips and tricks because I believe it's better and more fun for players to experiment and work things out by their own. But if you think that I forgot to mention a certain thing that you think is basic need to know then please add them in a reply.
Going from bronze to silver is just a small step in difficulty and you'll probably think that it's a small step going from silver to gold too. Well..it's not. Compaired to that small step the difficulty between silver and gold is a giant leap. Enemies will not only have more health, shields/barriers and armor, but there will also be a lot more of them. They will be faster and smarter and they do a lot more damage to you! Because of that, certain gameplay tactics that kept you alive and killing on silver will get you killed with not being revived on gold. On gold there are offcourse many other gameplay tactics that work which you can discover by yourself, but they are all based on some certain 'ground rules'
1) Don't camp at extraction!
This concerns all players because we all want that full extraction. Running for the extractionzone, aka the LZ, and trying to defend it is a deathtrap on nearly every map. You'll be exposed and enemies can and will get to you from all sides. To greatly improve the survivability of all team members go as far away from the LZ as possible. This will often make the enemy spawn on the LZ or close to it. As wrong as it sounds, this is actually a good thing! Because you and your teammates at the other side of the map will draw the enemy towards you and thus away from the LZ. You can survive by either camping or defending your current location, or just be mobile and run around going from cover to cover, whichever you prefer. Keep doing this untill 20 to 30 seconds are left, then literally run for your life to the now clear LZ and get that full extraction.
2) Don't revive a teammate when a Banshee/Phantom/Praetorian is near or on top of him!
On gold these enemies will sync-kill (insta-kill) you the moment you get up before you can even move! Try killing the enemy first or lure it away so that somebody else can safely revive him or so that he can safely medi himself.
Atlasses won't use their sync-kill move (the grab and squeeze) but will stomp on you like most other enemies so do try and revive somebody with a Atlas on top of him asap!
tip: All these enemies must perform a certain move before they can sync-kill. Knowing this move alarms you when a enemy is about to sync-kill so you can get out of harms way. This is a life-saver so study your enemies.
3) Learn the spawning points!
Every map has fixed spawning points based on rules. These rules are: (as far as i know)
-they are not supposed to spawn on you or any other teammembers position
-they will try to spawn out of sight or as far away from you as possible
-they are not supposed to spawn on objectives
-they are not supposed to spawn twice on the same spot per wave
When you know all the fixed spawning points (minimum 5 per map) and apply the rules you can eventually locate and control the spawning points. This is a huge advantage because now you can strike the enemy first. Study how veteran players do this so you can eventually be controlling the spawns with the whole team.
4) Try to stick together!
Try to stay close to at least one other teammember. Going solo as a new gold player will get you killed. And when that happens other teammates won't usually be near you to revive you, which will cost you to waste a medi or to bleed out.
This is a team co-op game and working together does really make things much easier and more fun!
5) Use equipment!
Gear, rail amps, cyclonic mods, ammo.. these things can make your average soldier turn into a super soldier.
If you're low on equipment, buy some jumbo packs.
As for medigels and rockets, don't use them only for your own benefit. Help the team by using a rocket when things get messy on the money-round (wave 10). You don't need to save them for extraction when you're not camping at the LZ.
I believe that these basics will not only improve your skills but most important; they will make the games more fun to play for everybody!
ps: please comment if you disagree on something or know more ways to help.
ps2: my knowledge of the game, the gold matches in particular, is based on 1000+ hours of gameplay. I don't claim to one of the best gold players... because i'm not! (only need 14 more promotions to be thatsmilie)
EDIT:
I strongly encourage all new gold player to read carefully through all the tips in the replies.
They are all just as important as the ones I've been pointing out.
Thank you all for the tips! You're making the community a better player
