So only 8.2% played Adept and 18% played Female Shepard? Female Shepard was better.

I don't know what chart this is from, but Sentinel was mine. I loved that you had some bonuses from either group, part Adept, part Engineer, with Tech armor, I can stand in the middle of the battlefield and not get hurt, because Tech armor + shield boost meant my shields were healing before they are ever below half.

I loved my Sentinel, although I admit the medicine ability as an engineer in one was killer.

The Adept stat surprised me. No class kills faster than an Adept spamming biotic combos with Liara and Kaiden in tow. Adept was my favorite, with Tech Armor/Defense Matrix Sentinel a close second.

My first character was a Soldier, because it was the easiest and most durable class in ME1, which could account for the large discrepancy (that and role play reasons).

Soldier kills the fastest with a Inferno ammo Marksmen infiltraitor close behind.

I think they will make everyone happy and have both genders. I hope to play other species too if they can add the feature.

I don't want to play a male only, in RPGs they always let you play both and others.

Not shocked that it is low. It just makes sense. How many War/Sci-fi/Adventure stories has a female as being this stereotypical male figure that is powerful and a hero? Tomb Raider, Hunger Games, and some more. The list is small, though.

As for classes, I think Adept is the most boring. It is all biotic ability and I want to have some advantage with a weapon. I also think that Engineer is such a support class that it isn't that great in single player mode. Just my opinion though.

ME3 is where the Engineer truly shines. With a cool down bonus on the skills. I could blow through enemies with my drone and turret. Set up a defense drone and whip out my sniper rifle and I was in heaven.

Plus the special Engineer interrupt for Omega and mentioning my Shep as an Engineer in the Citadel DLC for him not needing EDI nearby for the casnio mission. Oh yeah.   :D

ME4 PC to be male only, confirmed.

Well Bioware did remove dwarves elves from DA2, because only 16%  played as a elf and 5% as a dwarf.

Was that cause or coincidence, though? How many played as female or pursued the same-sex romance options? And yet they kept the one and expanded the other to the point of ludicrousness.

It's pretty clear that FemShep has been more successful than Bioware actually expected, and the praise they've gotten because of her has to be a motivation, numbers aside.

And honestly, 20% is a chunk of your fans worth keeping. No female PC would mean a lot of lost sales, starting with mine.

Yeah my Shepard was a female Vanguard. She looks surprisingly like Kahlee Sanders (hence the pic, but mine came first).

Like OP I tend to prefer female characters in games for 2 reasons. The tend to be quicker & more agile than male characters, although the guys are tougher - that suits my playstyle. Secondly, as has often been stated, if i'm going to have to stare at someones butt for hours it might as well be a shapely one.

However most guys want to be big manly men in games so its always going to be a minority of players using female characters. It's great that companies like Bioware continue to provide opportunities to play strong female characters. After all we know femsheps performance was better!

As for the Adept thing, i'm surprised that more people didn't play Biotics. It would be interesting to see what class was played most. I suspect it might be Soldier as people are more familiar with guns & might have been unsure how the powers would work.

Played ME, ME2, and ME3.  ME and ME2 both as:

1. Paragon male Infiltrator Shepard
2. Renegade female Sentinel Shepard (mostly renegade, like 70-80%, with few exceptions)

ME3 as #2 (see above).  Started ME3 as #1, but will probably change the class of male to Sentinel.  I just like this kind of "jack of all trades" skills as Sentinel.

So far I very much enjoyed both Shepards.  Both voice actors, Jen and Marc do a great job.

Still, given a choice, I prefer Jennifer Hales voice acting. A lot.

I do hope the next Mass Effect uses this...I really liked seeing biotic shep and jack in their arena combat date...it was so cool seeing both of them throwing biotic attacks in the cutscene...

My canon is a renegade femshep adept, I never figured that would be a minority. And only 4pct play on Insanity I find that difficult to believe.

Engineer would have to be my second favorite class. I've just finished me2 to import it to me3. I was ready to strangle Harbinger by the end mission though.

I very seldom play games with no gender selection unless I get them as a gift.

My first ever playthrough of ME I did was a paragon male soldier.
Second was a paragon female engineer.

My current PC playthrough is an paragon male adept.

Dunno why, but for some reason I lost interest playing as femshep, which is odd since I usually play as women in my games anyway. I suppose it's just because of how corny some of Mshep's romance lines are, especially with Miranda, and that three way line in ME1.

I'm doing an insanity run with an adpet now.  The thing is the adpet has too many abilities that overlap.  If Bioware would not have made the ME3 adpet so uninteresting (in terms of similar abilites) more people would play him.  The sentinel gets the adpet's best powers (Warp and throw), is more survivable, and other useful non-overlapping powers to boot.

Tried broshep once. Back to main menu after 15 minutes and chose female.

I played soldier a bit in the beginning because I really love adrenalin rush...but then I "found" the vanguard.

Male Shepard is the default option, so most probably just hurries through the character creation first time, hence also soldier. And there like me are people who prefer playing as MShep.

I am not really suprised by these numbers. The flavor of the month gamers typically do one playthrough of a game and then move on. Those guys are the ones that would most likely pick a male soldier for their playthrough. It is the easiest class to learn and most gamers are males. For those of us that are actual mass effect fans and we do numerous playthoughs the other classes have more appeal. The soldier class is arguably the most efficient or I should the easiest class to learn but some of the other classes have more of a fun factor to them (for me at least).

I played Soldier in ME 1 and 2, but in ME 3 I switched to Sentinel.

I always loved the idea of being a heavy frontline tank that utilized Tech and Biotics in conjunction to grind its enemies to dust, but for some retarded reason, the Sentinel in 1 and 2 never figured out how to wield anything other than a pistol.

But I suppose it makes sense. For some strange reason, pistols are actually both stronger and more accurate than Assault Rifles in Mass Effect, and even when I could use an Assault Rifle, I still used a Pistol lol :S

The last time I did a sentinel run I played with a shotgun wielding sentinel, that was a lot of fun.  Would cryo freeze enemies and then blast them with the shotgun,  lots of fun.

I can kinda see why Soldiers are the most-played class. They're the easiest to pick up and play and don't require any ramp-up time before they start coming into their own. Powers focused classes like Adepts, Engineers, and powers-focused Sentinels take a while before they get good because they need fully evolved powers to really be good.

Personally, I prefer powers classes to the Soldier.

Apart from a few lines and the choice of who to romance, both Shepards are exactly alike. So I don't see how one could be ''better'' than the other. They had no distinctive male or female character traits, or rather, FemShep was just a guy with ******.

AND THAT'S SO GREAT

I personally could not take femshep seriously. I lol @ romancing Garrus. Garrus is supposed to be shepard's brother in arms not some bird on a monkey.
