Plaintiff, I'd suggest you refrain from bringing as grim "off-topic" concept as rape to this discussion. OP is clearly willing, eager and active participant.

If EA and Bioware have taught me anything its that preordering games is a foolish practice.

Hm, I have high hopes for next SMT Persona game, but I see OP has a point. However, honestly, if we get something like DA2.. Let me put it this way. Overall DA2 made me feel bad, feel unpleasant. I play games for the opposite reasons - to enjoy myself and have a good time. You can't really trust Bioware anymore, too many flops recently.
I too had very good faith in Bioware after DAO came out until I've realized that Gaider is not actually in charge of everything DA. What I will be pre-ordering/buying day 1 is next Gaider's book. I won't be pre-ordering a game where people who designed DA2 boss battles are involved for example.

I will be preordering because my loyalty to BioWare and my love of their games far outweigh any disappointment I might have felt with DA2 and ME3 (both of which I still enjoyed). I won't be preordering The Witcher 3, however. CDPR have failed to wow me yet, even though I own both Witcher games and preordered W2 for the 360 (kinda wish I hadn't). I won't be preordering the next Elder Scrolls game either for that matter. I'm not even sure I'll even bother with the next TES title.

I am looking forward to Inquisition with cautious optimism, which I find is always a good stance to take with just about anything. Buying into hype tends to lead to letdowns.

I was similarly very disappointed with Bethesda when they made Oblivion in a very similar way to how I was disappointed with BioWare for Dragon Age 2. Most of the gaming community seemed to love Oblivion, I saw it as dumbed down eye-candy with only a fraction of the depth of its two most immediate predecessors.

Oh I agree. Morrowind might not be the prettiest game by today's standards. The characters have always been fugly, but that's what beautification mods are for.

That face is a huge improvement over what was available by default in the unmodded version of the game. Morrowind was set in an interesting locale and there was a real sense of danger when exploring, too. You didn't have the lame enemies that scaled up with your level. You could wander into a cave and encounter something really terrifying in Morrowind when your level was still in the single digits.

I was disappointed with DA2 as many were, the difference is that I didn't hate it. I didn't like the way corners were cut, by I liked the story and it had a lot of the right elements to make it a truly great game, just not always in the right places or in the right amounts. If the vanilla game had been more polished, like the two DLC released after The Exiled Prince (which was basically a pre-order bonus), then I suspect I would have had less to complain about. At least BioWare made some effort with those to address issues fans had. Sadly it was too little too late, since people didn't exactly flock to buy them. I don't think BioWare will be making the same mistakes in 3 that they made with 2. If I've gotten tired of all the kvetching about DA2, imagine how the devs must feel. I suspect David Gaider's disgust with the BSN might have at least a little bit to do with people still whining about it and trashtalking the game and BioWare.

Honestly, I don't pre-order Bioware games because I want something extra.

I pre-order because I want to play the game as soon as possible. I couldn't care less about Day 1 DLC or making some kind of statement or whatever. I just want to enjoy the damn game.

Game is not good enough to warrant the likely day1 DLC, MP microtransactions etc. People who are desperate to pre-order this game ought to try playing some real games.

Right right i forgot this is the gameplay doesnt matter crowd

There's good reasons for pre-ordering Dragon Age: Inquisitor, anyway.

* The lack of spoilers

This is something I usually want to know about getting myself into but in the Dragon Age case, I'd actually like to handle this game with a completely fresh pair of eyes.

* Encouraging Bioware to start work on DLC ASAP.

I was really disappointed with the cancellation of the Exalted Marches. Their loss means I feel like I can't complete my story so it'll be nice if we can just let the work on it be done artistically.

* A general love of the DA universe.

I got my money's worth from Dragon Age 2, even if it was an inferior game to DA2 IMHO. It's highs were higher than DA:O's highs even it's lows are lower.

* Seeing the money get into Bioware's pockets.

They only get the cash if it's new or DLC, after all. I support the trade in used games but I also note this is why microtransactions are everywhere.

A little. But it's better that being a zombie following the "EA iz baaad" bile poured in the ears like some.

I confess, the "EA is the worst company in the world" thing annoyed me. In RL we have companies that give seed to nations which can't afford food only to have the seeds altered so they need to buy the companies' homebrand of fertilizer.

EA made some cruddy games. In Bioware's case, cruddy because they were REALLY good for 80% of the game and 20% really bad. If a lot of fans had their way EA would burn down in a fire or they'd produce nothing but Madden football forever.

It was worst company in the U.S. I think. But still yeah, anyone who truly thinks EA is the worst company in the U.S. has absolutely no perception of reality. There are some really awful corporations who exploit people, pollute the environment and all kinds of nasty stuff.

If I had my way EA would just let the developers have enough time to do a good job and not try to incoorperate money grabbing and time consuming runarounds in everything.

Ironically, from what I gather, EA was actually pretty good at that. It's the business as a whole which is terrible.

Bioware, for example, gets A LOT of slack versus say the developers who did Homeland who were worked to death and paid nothing for a product they didn't believe in.

I fully respect your choice OP but I will not. Given the overall absence of information and the past two years of the gaming industry being more hype than substance, I will not blame Bioware for that; I cannot trust a product without a proper review and a reasonable time period for those reviews to be honest. It goes to say that it is my sole responsibility to assure my money goes for entertainment that meets the value of that investment.

Given the current 'trust me' air of this titles announcement and the events of the past year or so tied to the publisher and developer, I can't say trust is something that has been earned. Certainly not to advance money toward a product I know nothing about. Current gen/next gen, content versus gameplay, pricepoint for a certain given-none of these have been established yet. I will not buy a new machine for a singular title. It's like I said above-the gaming industry is playing their cards close to their chests and expecting consumers to rally on trust alone. Can't do that.

BioWare is in no danger of failure, especially considering they have three games in the works, along with Command & Conquer under the Victory label and continued support with TOR in Austin.

So yeah,I think they will be fine in the end. EA wouldn't cut off an arm willy nilly.

Love me some Morrowind mods. I got a bit of a shock when I saw Jiub's, actually Saint Jiub's (gotta give respect!) junk since the default mode for the better bodies mod is for the vanquisher of all cliff racers to be in his birthday suit when he greets you on the prison ship.

If there is multplayer, I want to make sure I get all the skins and zombie map packs offered as preorder bonuses. Gotta have that candycane staff skin since I always roleplay as the greatest candy mage in exhistencse, Lord High Warlock of Peppermint Place.

They did though.

They even pushed back Mass Effect 3's release by six months to add more to the game and give it some polish.

And we are already 24 months into the development of Inquisition, which is more than Dragon Age II, and Mass Effect 2 so far.

If we are using Dragon Age II as the barometer, I think it's a futile effort because the game is now just an exception to the standard 2 1/2-3  year dev cycle they are on at this point.

This is like saying your local restaurant's cooking is the best in the world.

It isn't the best. You're just used to it. You are free to continue enjoying it if you like, but do not expect anyone else to share your opinion. Especially anyone who has actually tried other options and got used to those first.

DA still has David Gaider so I'm no too worried when it come to DA3. As long as the story is great I'm satisfied. And both DA:O and DA2 were awesome story wise. So as far as pre-ordering goes, I'm thinking about it.

While I doubt I'll pre-order DA3 I will definitely keep an eye on it, I genuinely enjoyed DA2 even though it has its pitfalls and I can't see why DA3 will be any different. That said I do have to admit ME3 has be more skeptical than usual
