I presume anyone suggesting that DA3 will be better than 90% of the market is someone that likes BioWare's style of games and not so much other games, and is making a guess based on a hunch and probably some optimism.

In other words, nothing to see here and move along. It's an assumption based on an opinion and there's not much merit in arguing it since that's the way he feels.

The same way there's not much point in arguing with someone that feels DA3 will under perform.

Are you saying that there is no point in arguing with someone when neither side has any facts to justify their arguments? Have you forgotten that this is the internet? ;)

This is just silly

At this point, the negative thread is winning. There should be a prize for the ultimate winner.

My thread, or at least the OP, is not negative.  Yes, it uses a negative (NOT) in the title.  The thread is merely a plea for quality, and a statement of my intention to buy the game no matter what.  The only question is when I will buy the game and how much I will pay for it.  I'm not eschewing Bioware.  They are truly one of my favorite publishers.  But pre-ordering only encourages and rewards poor quality.

Please note that skipping the pre-order is not sticking your middle finger to the developer!  It's showing good sense.

No.  I'm just feeling particularly optimistic today!

People like negative things.

Just look at the number of people here who claim they're done with Bioware but can't tear themselves away. They like to hate.

Whatever doesn't kill you just makes you easier to kill later.

Its HATE that makes you strong.

I liked the way Zaeed thought about this matter in regards to rage.

Yeah, I can't answer why I think Dragon Age 3 will be better than 90% on the market. I *COULD* explain why I prefer Dragon Age 2 to the Witcher 2 (And I liked them both) or why I prefer Dragon Age 1 to Skyrim (and I love Skyrim).

I can say, however, why I WILL like Dragon Age 3 almost certainly.

---

* The return of Companions. I love Bioware's handling of NPCs and party-building and I've never been disappointed yet.

* The possible return of Cassandra and Leliana. I wanted to find out more about the High Seeker and Leliana is always welcome.

* The return of Flemeth: Kate Mulgrew is always a favorite actress of mine and Flemeth is enjoyable everytime she appears.

* Some resolution on the Templar vs. Mage business: It's been building two years so I'm eager to see how it ends.

* The possible return of Cullen: If you're noticing a pattern, basically, Bioware has made it so these characters are like old friends. Revisiting them is a major part of my enjoyment factor for these games.

* The larger map: Getting a chance to explore Orlais doesn't really interest me since I hate Orlasians but returning to Fereldan, visiting Tevinter, and maybe even Nevarra? That's intriguing.

* Good Single Player D&D Action: D&D died a long time ago not with a bang but a whimper but with Final Fantasy having become...err something I'm not interested in and not being a fan of wow, this is a chance to indulge my favorite high school hobby again.

* Fully Voiced Character: I felt that was a major improvment over Dragon Age: Origins. If there's a snarky Inquisitor option I'm almost certainly going to choose it.

* Am Always Surprised by Carry Over: I don't expect as much import action as before but I happen to love when I'm surprised with unexpected stuff from previous games.

* Codexes: The lore Bioware produces is just magnificently DEEP so I often spend hours pouring over the work done for them.

* Choices are always entertaining: The game is basically built around a variety of oddball choices. Many of them, of course, boil down to killing a kitten or sending it to college but Bioware often makes them intriguing just by presenting the situation.

Do you let Jowan go or kill him or imprison him. I'm looking foward to seeing what choices they're throwing at us this time.

The Almost certain return of two Dwarvish Merchants: They're iconic merchants for a reason friend. ENCHANTMENT!

You are preordering DA3? Great! That is your choice, and your money.

Personally though I have been largely burned by almost every game I have ever preordered. Games turn out not to be how they are previewed, or developers lie and promise things that are not their, or hell the game just doesn't meet my standards for the money I am shelling out.

So I won't preorder, at least not until closer to release. What do I have to lose? Preorder bonuses? Those usually get released for a price later, or bundled in an ultimate edition. If I don't preorder I can wait for reviews and for other players with similar tastes to tell me how it is, and if it seems worth it I will grab it.

I won't diss your decision. No matter how I personally feel about preordering and its effect on the industry at large it is your right to do with your money as you wish. I just personally see it as better for me if I just hold off and wait.

Dragon age 3 is quickly starting to become my most anticipated game of the year. Recently I started playing Dragon age origins again, so that and dragon age 2 should keep me busy until DA3 comes out.

You know what bugs me about fandom? They threw an EPIC fit over Mass Effect 3's ending (perhaps with good reason) and Dragon Age 2 (underwhelming) but all this talk about "being burned" it makes me wonder what exactly they think the alternatives are going to be when/if Bioware doesn't suceed.

Kickstarter.

The Torment sequel has more than tripled its pledge goal so far.

I don't want Bioware to fold. I've loved most of the games of theirs that I've played and I think it'd be terrible if they disappeared as an RPG company.

But if they stop making games I like, or their games come fitted with features I hate, I don't want to feed them money and give the impression I'm ok with what they're doing.

Red Thread Games is producing the sequel to Dreamfall thanks to Kickstarter as well. It's an adventure game, not an RPG, but the story in their games is very strong.

Oh yeah, I pledged to that one too even though I've only played the first game (The Longest Journey) so far. :)

Dreamfall is a really excellent game.  Might I suggest though that you wait until the finale is close to being finished before you play it.  It ends with a heart rending cliff hanger.  At the time I played it, it seemed the sequel was never going to happen at all.  Lol, it was a dark day for me :D.

As someone who plays many types and genres of games.......i no longer pre order games.

Why?

I hate Pre order DLC, its THE worst type of content about.

Also you can never trust PR and advertising of games. Even major review sites i no longer trust or read.

All my game info come from forums and youtube, peoples opinion are far better than review sites and dodgy journalists.

Gamers have been burned by so many developers/publishers/PR/Marketing that now they all have to fight hard and make a great game for my money........and thats a rare thing nowadays.

I'll probably end up pre-ordering the game. I'm way too invested in Thedas to not be one of the first to play. *shrugs*

That's how I thought after DA:O, until DA2's DRM prevented me from playing my preorder.

I'll be pre-ordering DA3. On launch day I will be outside my local game shop when it opens with coffee and a Danish, waiting for the security door to go up. (I guess I could get a digital copy and start at midnight, but I do love having my favourite games in an actual box.)

I am basing this decision on the fact that I loved both DAO and DA2 - it would be a little strange for me to assume that I won't like the third instalment when I've finished the first one eight times and the second one six times. (So far. I'll go through DA2 at least once more before DA3 comes out.)

I guess I could change my mind based on further information, but at the moment I think I'm safe in assuming I'll continue to enjoy the series.

I don't understand the concept of pre-ordering. I'm not going to guarantee a purchase of a product I know nothing about regardless of any previous history with the developer or manufacturer.

I think Bioware games are better than most games out there these days so I will definitely keep tabs on the development of the game. I'll play the demo if one gets released, read reviews from sites I find more or less reliable, etc and then decide if it's worth $60. Pre-order? No way.

Atlus is probably my favorite developer right now and I don't even pre-order their games.

Pre-Ordering boils down to the idea they'll be enough copies at the store for you (not usually a problem) and "First Day gaming." It also gives the option of paying a little at a time for financially strapped gamers.

You're forgetting The Witcher.

Considering the level of improvement between 1 and 2, when 3 is released I will be all over it faster than you can say pre-order.

They already do choices and consequences better than Bioware. And while I most definitely miss having companions and my own choice of PC, I do know that there's at least one developer left to turn to if Bioware ends up tokenising the RP out of ARPG =)

I'm going to pre-order because it looks like it's going to be fun, and I'm impressed by quite a bit of what I've seen. It's that simple.

The Witcher does little for me as an RPG. The first game was atrocious, and the second one was a big improvement in quality, yes, but content wise its on par with Dragon Age in terms of narrative/characterization, which is honestly the meat of what I tend to gravitate for outside of game mechanics.

And for me its no question that Dragon Age trumps the Witcher in game mechanics.

As for choices/consequences, both games are really the same The Witcher may hide it better or keep it compactful, but its basically the difference between a plot vs narrative once again. The Witcher is on a fixed plotline like Dragon Age II was, the narrative is our choices made in-between that influence events within the plot, but are always bottlenecked into fixed moments. Its design 101 really.

To each their own. I like playing in the world of thedas. I for one will be pre-ordering dragon age inquisition because the other two games were fun to play. it is also going to be using the frostbite 3 engine which (as the bf4 gameplay video shows) seems to be an awesome engine! Bioware needs to show DAI in a similiar fashion as bf4 people did. Show not tell! Pre order intact! Lol.

Stating that one's own critique is objective is not productive.  Going into tangents as to what objectivity is or is not is not relevant.  Understanding that claiming one's point of view is objective is going to just stir up trouble is something to be mindful of.

Getting on other posters based on what types of games they like is also not appropriate.  Responding in a hostile manner to someone you think is just trolling is also not a great idea.  Be respectful and courteous to fellow posters despite their statements and wishes, and frankly we all get along better.

Consider this a warning, and it goes to everyone.

I have to apologize for my part.  Alcohol and BSN do not mix.  Earlier I praised the OP for being positive and then turn around and act like a negative nancy.  I just find it frustrating when my enjoyment of Bioware games is unfairly interpreted as being indicative of some kind of character flaw.

Back on point, I will definitely be pre-ordering and showing up at Best Buy the minute they open on the day it comes out!
