Now time to get to the point. This trailer in awakening likes to reveal alot of things. One at 2 points in the trailer it shows Ogrhen with you, but everyone already new that tid bit of information. But im going to state somthing i think ALOT of people missed.
At the three points i have shown you it shows three things, Biowares character killing the archdemon ( by biowares character i mean the character they made for the trailers), a fuzzy screen with some mage freak guy, Biowares character running around in awakening, and some other mage talking about the dead watching her take over the mortals.
If you take all that information you come to one conclusion, Your character can come back from the dead. Yep, thats right.... soak it in. now alot of people are saying if your character died you play as an orlesian grey warden commander. But from that facts i have gathered it looks like you have a choice, play as your old character (even if they died) or the orlesian.
If others have already figuered this out sorry, just thought i should point it out, thanks for reading.

Dark Promise - Warden Survives.
No Dark Promise - You play as Orlesian Grey Warden. Simple as that really.

I was saying, you have to watch the trailer it clearly shows him doing it. also it shows the fuzzy image as if your comeing back. also why is it called awakening? i could see it being called that because your awakening. its all just guesses. and i doubt bioware would uses their same character for advertising purposes that would be stupid

Some are saying the Architect is speaking to Duncan not to your Warden
This is totally my theory. I think Duncan's story didn't end in DA:O.

Also I read some info and the archivist and duncan have encountered each other when duncan was with King Maric in the deep roads that took place years before origin so it may be a flashback
The Calling is all about that story. I would suggest reading it or at least getting the summary of it read before going into the expansion because it will reveal a lot about Duncan.
Btw saying it's impossible to go back is a bit extreme. You could go back to a save prior to all the fighting and start from there but as you said you based the choices off what you would do so why would you want to have your character alive for the expansion. Wouldn't that just undo everything you did? Just do multiple saves for different outcomes. That solves the problem right there.

yea it would be stupid, why show their character die (unless he did the ritual) then show him alive? thats what i was saying is stupid. Anyway for me it impossible to go back and change my ending, my 3 saves are the auto save at the end, and two saves after i did RtO. Also some might point out why kill your character if you want to play as him in expansion you should have known, well i didnt for one and i was play as me (makeing choices i would in real life) and if me or my friend had to die i would die, so thats why i picked it
They do it all the time. Mass Effect is a good example. They use a generic character so they can have trailers without spoiling things. What you see in the trailer is not going to be 100 % accurate. For example, it's quite possible Alistair is dead for some people based on their decisions. Yet they show him in the trailer. The idea is to show as much as possible while at the same time, revealing as little as they can.

Another Thing you could keep in mind is that if you talked to Wynne about the Benevolant spirits in the Fade maybe if you sacrifice yourself at the end of the game for the expansion a Spirit that feels your character has so much left to do keeps him alive
Very true forgot about this, there was no point to it even really. i could see them useing this so yyou come back. And i disagree, morrigans ritual would still matter. Then she would have the baby still. personally i want my old character back. from a RP stand point being an orlesian is going to suck, you know no one and have no emotional care about anyone from origins

Darkspawn becoming intelligent beings instead of the mindless monsters from the main game is the most likely reason going off of what little we know about the actual plot.

A spirit from the Fade can possess a mortal body and return if that body is killed, but for those born on this side of the veil dead = dead.
This is something the developers have told us numerous times.

The Architect (the intelligent darkspawn) is from Dragon Age: the Calling, which happens a couple decade before the main game and also came out being DA:O shipped. Dragon Age: Journeys also had a talking darkspawn emissary.
