I'm hardly a seasoned player of RPG's, but I'm an old hand at roleplaying - and somehow, it just seemed wrong to buy a person's affections. Take Leliana for example - is SHE the type of person to start liking someone just because they load her with gold trinkets? Admittedly, you get higher bonuses for religious icons and suchlike, but still... from an RPing standpoint, it bothered me for a while.

I'm hardly the greatest poet, and what follows is a product of sheer boredom - I decided that I would pretend I was my character, who is just a tad infatuated with Leliana. My character is also something of a writer. What follows is the bit of verse that he wrote for the woman.

-------------------------------
I've heard the bards of far Orlais
I've listened to a wide array
of songs that ring so pure, so true -
- I wonder if they've ever sung of you.

If not, the price is theirs to pay
I write this verse and hope, one day,
that I'll find your lips, find a place in your song,
for life's too short
and the road's too long.
-------------------------------

And that's that! An experienced minstrel might turn their nose up at it, but I think that Leliana would appreciate the gesture. At least enough for a +1 bonus in interest.

And with that, do any of you have other poems that fit the Dragon Age setting? They could be to a character, about a character, about an event - perhaps you're a minstrel yourself, turning an account of the battle at Ostergar into a heroic ballad to defy Loghain?

Nice poem.

I'm never opposed to giving someone a gift, especially if you learn what it is they like. You know leliana like boots. Why is it so unreasonable to think that giving her the blue silk shoes is wrong? She likes them, no? She simply adores pretty feet, so why not give her a considerate igft? Its sometimes better than trying to talk her up. It does convey a sense of realism too.

Gifts = good.

Nice poem :)

I've also taken the liberty and posted this poem on 'Maker's Breath', a livejournalcommunity dedicated to Leliana: community.livejournal.com/makers_breath/9376.html

Well, I could not find another thread with some poetry on it so I decided to post something here as I really liked Ser Brennoc short poem about Leliana.
Mine is a bit longer and is about Ostagar.
Now, like Ser Brennoc I am no poet, I am a musician and eventually wrote some lyrics but I wouldn't consider my writings to be of any worth.
I am as happy as I can be with what follow(which is not much) so thank you for any comment.
I might try to rework it to make it a bit longer and add something about Duncan.

O, and one last thing, English is not my first language (dare I say I am french, well that is done)

So here goes nothing. Hope you will enjoy.

Ostagar

South Wind through Korcari’s long grass blows.
Passing above ruined Lothering, to Denerim it goes.
What news from Ostagar, O wandering wind
Where are the soldiers, the mages, the warden, the king.

I heard their horns ringing over the Tower of Ishal.
I have seen them fight in the morning light so pale.
There Cailan fell, Theirin mighty,
Never to return in Denerim by the sea.

Beneath the tower I heard their cry as they fought
But no help to rescue them Loghain brought
So they fell in the morning red dew,
Despite their courage, for nothing but the treason of a few.

These are both very fine poems, thank you for posting them!

Oh, and I think Leliana would really appreciate the gesture, she's a gesture kinda gal - remember the gift you give her with the highest value is a simple flower. :)

I've got another one more in the thread.
It is nothing but a fun little ditty, more suitable at the tavern with a pint in hand, than in an Orlais boudoir.

Witches are fine, dark, jealous and wild
Elves are fun, all lust and dirty mind
But for real love little one
You got to get yourself a redheaded woman.

Excellent poems, all of them!! I now wish I could recite the poem to her in the game.

If this is going to become a poetry thread, I wonder if I could add my own installation. Not nescessarily a poem, actually inspired by Monty Python, but I certainly hope it rings with Dragon Age.

Bravely, bold King Cailan,
rode forth from Denerim.
He was not afraid to die,
Oh brave King Cailan!
He was not at all afraid
to be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave King Cailan

He was not in the least bit scared
to be mashed into a pulp.
or to have his eyes gouged out
and his elbows broken.
To have his kneecaps split
and his body burned away,
and his limbs all hacked and mangled,
Brave King Cailan!

His head smashed in,
and his heart cut out,
and his liver removed,
and his bowels unplugged, and his nostrils ripped,
and his bottom burned of
and his.......

...................[Intermission].......................

Brave Teyrn Loghain ran away!
Bravely ran away, away!
WHen danger reared it's ugly head,
he bravely turned his tail and fled,
yes brave Teyrn Loghain turned about,
and gallantly he chickened out,
bravely taking to his feet,
he beat a very brave retreat,
bravest of the brave; Teyrn Loghain!

Ehehehehe, MP and Holy Grail, good one Maximus

I thought of another one.
It sort of recap the story of one of my male character up to the point when Morrigan offers her ritual. He was in a romance with Leliana.

Fighting Darkspawns, dragons and men
I have lost much and mostly found pain.
I 've paddled through seas of blood,
To quell the Blight, to stop this flood.
I've done great things, even made kings,
I've put an end to old curses.
I have murdered, stolen and lied,
And tonight I will join in a dark ritual.
Do not make a hero out of me.
I am Grey Warden, I will do my duty,
The Archedemon will die by my hand
To this Blight I will put an end.
But I shall not sacrifice myself,
For my only wish, I must confess,
Is, breathing and free, simply go away,
With at my side the beauty of Orlais.

That's also brilliant, sums up what it is to be a grey warden, and that even through all that takes place between the battles of Ostagar and Denerim, and emphasises that the warden's 30 year lifespan is still worth holding on to, because he's found love in a land of death, destruction, chaos and betrayal.
