This is purely cathartic; I know Bioware forums will offer listening ears (or eyes, whatever). Ive been feeling guilty.

I have multiple 'shepards', but only one is my 'canon shepard'.  This shepard's alternate reality that took place throughout my triology is my personal head-canon.  I acted as i would, given this role (RPG, duh).  I even got this sheaprd to look like me (except by ME3 sheap is jacked as all hell, but whatever) so that added to immersion.  I played my first Mass Effect playthrough in 2008-09 a bit after it came out, but before ME2.  i played Me2 right when that came out as well; I didnt know how many of these choices would play out in the end.

Now that we know the end, some of these choices may be considered 'wrong', especially if you know what could have been.  All of these choices were made on my first playthrough of each game, not knowing ANYTHING about what might happen or possible repercussions.  Here are a few of these controversial choices and my justification for them:

+Killed Rachni queen
I really strained over this one.  back in 2009, i had no idea where this choice might lead.  All I knew was the fictional, in-game history.  Many aliens fought and died in a conflict with the rachni waay before the humans showed up.  Who was I, a human spectre, essentially first day on the job, to make such a controversial choice?  The rachni should have been extinct, but a ancient egg remained.  That sounded like the beginning to a sci-fi horror movie to me, so I niped that one in the bud.

I kind of regret this now, since I learned that they were corrupted by reapers or leviathan? back then, and it wasnt really them.  I also saw the EC slide of the rachni on Tuchanka if you didnt cure the genophage.... i liked that redemption aspect.

+Killed Wrex
Ok, I admit, this what partly because I didnt have enough paragon/renegade points to persuade him to calm down on Virmire.  I played a neutral shepard; overall paragon, but made some inappropriate renegade quips here and there, especially to the turian councilor/Udina/Saren/Fist/other ****s you meet.

I also truely believed that the genophage being cured was a bad thing.  I had no reason to believe otherwise at that point in the series.  i just knew that the krogan conflict was before humanity's time and it was probably for the best.  I saw Wrex as just another angry krogan, touchy about the genophage, and ready to mutiny shepard on a moment's notice.

Wrex was also a merk for Saren.  Whenever I recruit a party member that worked for the bad guy in RPGs (Lakilester in Paper Mario, Zevran in DA, other examples) they always tend to be shady or possibly turn on you. This is also true in movies and other media.

+Did not cure genophage
This is one was a given; Wrev was a terrible leader and the krogan still deserved no cure.  Since I destroyed the data in ME2 under the same logic, Mordin agreed and sabotaged the cure.

+Save Geth, Quarians die
This one was also partly due to a game mechanic; Tali died in ME2's suicide mission. she was loyal and not-exiled on my first ME2 playthrough, but I missed the gun and shielding upgrades for the ship (the whole idea was new to me).
Peace between the two is only achieved if a trusting relatuonship between Tali and Legion was fostered in ME2 and ME3.  Since Tali was dead, I had nobody to offer  personality or perspective on the Quarians, so I became biased toward the geth after the geth consensus mission.  I chose the geth and they won the war.  Like the reapers said would happen....

Side note: I realized Mass Effect is actually focused around using your power to get idealistic people in power. In the krogan's case; idealistic ruler or traditional ruler, new era or same old shish?  Quarian's war with geth; War with synthetics and prove the reapers were right, or foster a peace between a quarian admiral and a conglomerate of geth runtimes?

Now that I have that off my chest, what do you guys think?  I know those stas they recently released showd that many were paragon/genophage curing/peace-fostering/everyone surviving the suicide mission Shepards, but I didnt.  I want to know your opinion and maybe understand why freeing the rachni queen may have actually been the 'renegade' choice.
