Who's going to want to go see a Mass Effect movie besides the fans and maybe a handful of people? There wouldn't be a big enough audience to break even, IMO.
You know how many non-gamer sci-fi fans exist out there? Do you have any idea how much the modern movie-goer craves a fresh, provocative sci-fi movie that's epic but not from Star Trek or Star Wars?
Just show a trailer introducing the Mass Effect universe... mass relays, Reapers, Geth...and the world would drool over dat universe so fast.

Now if it isn't set around Shep and has the proper resources and decent acting talent then i very much think the mass effect universe could work on the big screen and it would besomething i'd be interested in.

My problem with the movie would mainly be the cast: new faces and/or different voices. I wish they'd do a full length CGI film. It would be much more faithful to the universe we know and would look less silly than live action.
i think making a movie will just ruin it for the fans.
i'd prefer a cgi flim with the voice cast from the game.

Just pointing out that during the Mass Effect A Retrospective panel at PAX East last weekend, Casey confirmed the movie IS still being made. Just in case people missed that.
Yup, saw that. Thought that was confirmed along with the next integration of ME being moved to Montreal late last year??
Oh, btw, great blog entry Chris. Thanks for posting!

That's exactly why Mass Effect should be filmed. It's what Gotham needs.Nightdragon8 wrote...
yea but they have yet to make a really good sci-fi movie lately. the new tom cruise one (sadly it had to be him) may be ok but a universeal sci-fi movie is really hard to come by.
QUESTION IS, WILL HE ANSWER THE CALL.

That's why john carter was such a success.

How about Star Trek (2009)? Star Wars franchise? These are staples, yes, but how about Oblivion, After Earth, Star Trek Into Darkness, Pacific Rim, Elysium? These are all coming this year, are all big budget, and have universal appeal. Big blockbusters, not fringe sci fi films for hardcore fans.

Uh, it failed because it revolves around outdated sci fi that has life on Mars, giants, and a princess? Another reason Mass Effect is needed is because it's updated sci fi.

I don't really have high hope on movies to be honest, seeing what they've done to Tomb Raider, Max Payne, and Prince of Persia. I figure the less you expect, the less disappoint you will be when the movie come out.
The only one of those that had a good story to begin with was Max Payne, and I actually really liked the movie, although most thought it was mediocre. It was a visual feast, dark, although a bit cliche.
Honestly, a longer version of something like Star Trek (2009) or Star Wars, but in an ME setting, and I'd be happy. It could be great
